I stopped into El Coqui Bakery in Sanford for a quick lunch to go and overall had a good experience. The space is cute and cozy, with a welcoming neighborhood feel. They offer breakfast, lunch, and a variety of pastries, making it a convenient spot for different times of day. When I initially placed my order, the person at the counter did not speak much English as I was asking questions about the menu and ingredients. They went to get someone from the back to assist me, which I appreciated, and that person was able to answer my questions clearly. Once that was resolved, ordering went smoothly. I ordered a beef empanada and a pressed chicken sandwich. The sandwich was made with shredded chicken and pressed on the grill, giving it a crisp exterior while staying tender inside. It was flavorful and generously sized. The portion was large enough that two people could easily share it, especially at the price point. The beef empanada was the standout. It was well seasoned, cooked perfectly, and one of the better empanadas I have had in a while. One minor issue was when my order came out from the kitchen. Although there were two people working at the front counter, it took a while for my order to be acknowledged because they were engaged in conversation with a customer picking up a to go order. It was not a major delay, but noticeable. Overall, the food quality and portion size made a strong impression. With slightly more attentiveness at the counter, the experience would be even better. I would definitely return to try the breakfast options, pastries, and more of the lunch menu. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich that came out on warm Cuban bread, and it was absolutely perfect--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. We also tried one of their fresh donuts, which was made that morning, and it melted in your mouth. We came here for the vegan menu. It was displayed tight next to the register we didn't have to ask to see it. It is very nice inside with music and nice lighting. The coffee was delicious and they had almond milk for it. The service was fast and nice. My wife got the vegan breakfast platter and I got the wham sandwich. Both were excellent the bread on my sandwich was amazing. read more

Breakfast on a Sunday. Maybe 8 customers. We ordered two coffees, a donut, omelet and eggs. Got our donut and coffee..... then crickets. Had to ask twice for the rest of our food. 30+ mins later, still waiting. We could ask for a refund but we barely get acknowledged. Stopped by "EL COQUI BAKERY" today with my Sister to try out the food and Coffee. I'll start out by saying the Coffee gets a thumbs up 10. The Best. The Beef Vegan Empanadas outstanding along with the Tostones gets another 10 points. Service was great we definitely enjoyed our time there. You can eat inside or outside along the sidewalk. This place is legit Puertorican coffees, breads, frituras/fried goodies, smiling faces on the staff and happy customers buzzing in and out of this place. Just tried El Coqui this morning for the first time. My husband ordered the Bistek sandwich, and I got a bacon egg and cheese. Both sandwiches were REALLY good! My husband was happily surprised that the sandwich was actual Bistek, and not like the thin shaved steak (that would be in a steak & cheese sandwich). I also ordered a small hot chocolate, and a few pastries to go. They all looked really tasty ! Overall super happy and excited about this spot. Will definitely come back. Music / Ambience was also on point, and service was great & super helpful. :) read more

This bakery is located in the remodeled Sanford area and has ample parking area. The ambiance is very comfortable to be. I tried a pastrami/steak sandwich and was exquisite. Hot in and out. Also, I bought some pastries to take home and all of them were class #1. The service was optimum and in a timely manner. I recommend this place, just check operating hours because they close early. read more

Right when you walk in you're hit with the beautiful smell of fresh baked goods. Staff was super nice and friendly. Had a decent sized line and the food came out pretty fast and best of all FRESH! Ordered 1 empanada along with some other stuff and once I opened my bag I realized they had given me an extra empanada (may have been an accident) but a nice surprise none the less! I live in downtown Sanford and was excited to try out this new bakery. Unfortunately on my first visit I received very rude service and will not be coming back. I walked in and took a look at what was in the case, asked a few simple questions and thought I was being very friendly. However the person standing behind the cash register had a nasty attitude with me and was making faces like I was being dumb by asking what was inside of the different pastries. Very condescending and disrespectful for no apparent reason when I was asking simple questions in a very friendly tone Hopefully your experience is different! read more

Love this spot! The empanadas and pastries are the best . My grandma is PR and she lives in Miami, I just moved to Sanford and this was the comfort food I needed. The team is so sweet and I was at porchfest for the first time and got the cutest shirt that they were passing out . This place gives salvatores and magnolia square market a run for their money. This is the arguably the best sandwich in sanford. It's hard to beat a real bakery that makes everything fresh like this. I'm happy to have this place as my own little secret but their staff deserves for people to know that there is a serious bakery with passionate chefs serving some of the best food right in downtown sanford. We need more places in sanford like this they deserve to be an iconic and legendary spot for orlando.
