The food is amazing enough to keep me going despite the waits and the crowded restaurant. It's crowded for a reason, I guess. It is your typically decorated Mexican restaurant in the U.S., but the service is friendly and, again, the food is great! I have noticed a difference between the quality of some of the entrées when dining in and carrying out, so I choose not to do carry out here. read more

My family visited El Cozumel recently for a family event. They quickly accommodated a large group (9 people) without special reservations. The decorations are really interesting with the chairs and booths carved with colorful designs. I was able to play a game of I Spy with my nephew because there was so much to see with the decorations. The menu had a wide array of options and everyone seemed pretty happy with their choices. My uncle particularly liked his arroz con pollo. I ordered the shrimp tacos, which were filled with plump shrimp. Several people ordered margaritas and these were huge! Though ai don't think they ordered large drinks particularly. The waiter really pushed the drinks and second rounds, which I didn't appreciate. This ended up being a nice option for a group lunch, and it appears the restaurant is humongous so it can accommodate multiple large groups. read more

Azul Margarita! Remember this Ok, so my brother and I stopped by here yesterday for lunch. He told me how good their tacos were. Since I liken myself to a taco connoisseur, I figured I would be the judge. First, this is located at the Courtland Center Mall. Upon entrance, we were greeted and sat. The decor is that typical of most Mexican restaurants. Very colorful and beautiful! We ordered the Azul Margaritas and our tacos......don't forget the Margarita. He brought our Margaritas out and whewwww! The first two sips and I think my face went numb. Lol, I'm joking but this thing was perfectly made. It had the perfect amount of Tequila. I got the sugar rim and my brother got salt. It was delicious. By the time I finished it (cause I damn sure finished it), I felt real good. The tacos were very good...great even! The beans and rice were damn near delectable. I honestly could've just eaten those and wouldn't have been mad, lol! Please check them out if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed. The food is very good. I loved the flavor on the chicken but the ground beef was a bit bland. the wait staff is pretty friendly. The place was busy but they were pretty quick considering the crowd. The decor is colorful with the carved chairs and all which I find a little cheesy but it was clean and friendly. Prices are high however compared to other Mexican restaurants. read more

This would've gotten five stars except for the waiter because our service was pretty iffy. As soon as we sat down the waiter asked us what we wanted to drink and said "are you ready to order do you need some time". Since this was the first time we've ever been to this restaurant we obviously were not ready and they have quite a large extensive menu. Once we were ready to order the waiter was nowhere to be found and after about 10 minutes we finally flagged him down and got our order placed. Then randomly while we were waiting for our food he came over and asked if there was anything else we needed which was so strange because we were just sitting there with our chips and salsa and drinks. Someone else delivered our food and then we never saw the waiter again until he brought the bill and we actually had to flag him down for that too Now for the food which is the real reason this place got four stars. I got the Camerones a la Diabla which is basically shrimp with onions green peppers grilled and with a brown spicy sauce. It was absolutely delicious and it comes with some flour tortillas on the side plus rice and beans. The portions are huge and all the food was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the enchilada dinner and it was also huge and he said it was one of the best enchilada dinners he's ever had. He ended up taking quite a bit of his home in a carry out box also. read more

The wait was long, about 40 mins, on a late Friday evening, but definitely worth the wait! I ordered an El Cozumel chicken bowl and it was amazing! The chicken was seasoned to perfection and everything blended so well. The portions are huge enough where you can get two meals out of one bowl. My food was really good. Thee suiza sauce on my enchiladas is one of the best I've ever had. I enjoyed every bit of my meal overall. The food came out in a timely manner on a hot plate. I wish they served horchata but they don't. The restaurant was nicely decorated and big. There's definitely enough room to host a large table or party. The service could have been better. As a previous reviewer stated, middle of the road hits it pretty well. We were seated right away on a busy day, which was surprising, but service took a really long time. I understand wanting to seat patrons so they don't have to wait for a table, but if you can't serve them, they will be no happier just sitting. The food was ok. Per the drink menu, the margarita mix is house-made, but it tastes heavily of HFC syrup found in store-bought mixes. Meh. read more

Pretty middle of the road local Mexican cuisine. My husband and I stopped here earlier this month while out Christmas shopping at Courtland Center (gasp, yes, it's sort of a ghost town, but they do have a few decent shops) and decided to grab a quick bite here. Since there isn't much available in terms of food options in the mall, outside of El Cozumel, we took a chance on it. The service was kinda sketchy. We were seated pretty quickly along the side, facing the parking lot, but after that we were left to stare at our phones for way too long. No one bothered to check on us, bring us drinks, menus, etc. I spied several staff members standing around the back talking to each other, ignoring all of our tables. I could see through to the bar and a larger dining room, which featured live music and more tables. Why weren't we seated in there? It seemed to be the section receiving the attention while our seating area withered on the vine from lack of attention. I flagged down a server (I hate doing it, but it had to be done) and so did a guy sitting at a booth across from us. Finally, we were able to order something! My husband and I grabbed Coronas on special and some pretty tasty chips and salsa hit the table quickly afterward. The chips were fresh baked and the salsa was actually some of the better I've had around this area as of late. By then, I was a little less grumpy, but still a bit hungry, so we ordered the deluxe nachos to share. The loaded nachos hit the table pretty quickly once we had ordered and a refill of regular chips and salsa came around the same time, too. The loaded nachos (sans beef) were quite nice. I liked the mixture of seasonings, the toppings were generous and quality of fresh of fresh ingredients was impressive. I have to say, based upon the slow start, I wasn't expecting much, but those nachos were delicious. Our waitress, while somewhat distracted, was very friendly and did try to check on our table every so often. The place wasn't super busy, so I'm not sure what was going on with the slow-ish service and lack of attentiveness from the seating hostess in the beginning. As for the prices, it was pretty inexpensive Tex Mex fare. The food quality and prices were good, but the service needed a bit of work and as for ambiance, the other side of the bar looked really interesting, but I noticed the carpet on our side of the restaurant should've been replaced or cleaned. It was kinda gross. It was not exactly the kind of thing you want to see in a restaurant, if you know what I'm getting at. It was long past its expiration date. Other than that, I noticed some chipped paint that should've grabbed the management's attention a long time while waiting for drinks (waiting with nothing to do while staring at your IPhone causes this to occur). Just grab some paint and fix it, people. Other than that, it was pretty much decorated in the bright colors of Tex Mex cantina style. Would we eat here again? Sure, if we're shopping in the area, we might. I just hope they clean the carpet and the service is improved by then. read more

My wife and I expected to be disappointed after reading all the great reviews because our expectations were so high. We definitely were not disappointed! The reviews are accurate, this place is awesome! First off the service was amazing! Carlos, our waiter was so nice and helpful. The restaurant is super clean and fun. And the food...wow! My wife had the Chorizo tacos, I had the Loco burrito and we shared a shredded chicken quesadilla. Everything was bursting with flavor, fresh and large portions! We love Mexican food and this was the best we've had anywhere. Period. We ended the meal with fried ice cream and it was delicious too. We'll be going back often. What a gem! read more

It was a pretty restaurant, but the service was bad it took forever for a server to come to our table to get us started and when we finally ordered it took a very long time for our food to come out. The food was not good either. Out of the three enchiladas only one was good and the rice was okay. The steak in the burrito was good but not worthy enough to take home. read more

We always feel confident going here that we are going to get a great dinner and great service! The menu offers all of your standard Mexican fare, plus some more interesting items. My favorite is the Fajitas Cozumel with chorizo and pineapple. Pollo Adobe is delicious too! We also like the guacamole and margaritas. This is the second time I've been to El Cozumel and asked for tomatoes on my nacho. I asked for them to be cooked. I didn't care if they put them on top of the cheese or under the cheese before they melted it on my nacho I asked for shredded cheese they didn't neither of these things they gave me liquid cheese, which I don't like and they gave me cold tomatoes on top. They said the staff in the back just don't like to do it that way. Well I guess I'll find another Mexican restaurant to eat at where they'll let me have it the way I like it not the way they like it. read more

I'm typically near the Courtland Center area when I'm visiting Flint, so I try to make a trip to El Cozumel when I stop through. I'd say that my food has been consistent so far. Consistency is important to me, as the list of restaurants I will never visit again grows longer by the month. I typically get the taco salad bowl and it is so good (though I've had a bite of their carne asada tacos as well and those were tasty even without sauce). My bowl with a solid house margarita is less than $20. Can't complain about that! They're usually quick to bring out the chips and salsa...if you're anticipating salsa with a kick, this isn't it. It's still good though. The best part is that I leave here satisfied, but not stuffed. Hate feeling stuffed. Never had a problem with the service, everyone there has always been pleasant (though on occasion, I have felt rushed - I haven't even broken down the shell of my taco bowl yet and the bill is staring me in the face). They have a vast menu I know nothing about yet but if you're looking for a decent taco bowl, stop by! read more

At the moment currently hunched over the toilet. Violently hurling big chunks of taco meat. I was immediately nauseous after consuming the tacos, and it didn't help that my three year old niece was served RAW chicken tenders. The chicken was not even near cooked, it looked like I had just bought it from Krogers. Not to mention the wait time was outrageous, considering there were twenty tables open. Additionally, the man at the front counter continually dismissed the waiting customers, and shooed them away.
