Went for the pizza, got a few other items. One item was a little high for as little as I received, but all the items were WONDERFUL. I went at 3pm, there were 16 people in line, inside. The phone never stopped ringing with call-in orders. Speaks to how great the food is, and the people were nice too! As to others who say this isn't authentic - they only know Taco Bell, and not the real thing. I'll pass on this Mexican eatery, thank you. There is really not much authentic about the food here. It's neither particularly good, nor especially traditional Mexican fare. It's just pretty blah. I've eaten here a few times and my opinion of the place hasn't really changed all that much over the years. The food is derivative, completely lacking in originality or imagination. Super greasy Tex Mex food covered in cheap, gooey cheese with oil cascading all over the place is not up to snuff. Sorry, that doesn't cut it. Mexican/Tex Mex cuisine is supposed to be teeming with heat, seasoning, etc, but the flavor profile here really seems just a bit dull. I had the fish tacos once. They were pretty meh, the fish wasn't especially flavorful and I don't believe it was totally fresh. The fish tasted "flash frozen" to me. I was not particularly impressed. The rice was sticky and kind of dry, with not enough seasoning, but the portion size was plentiful. The chips tasted like they were freshly made, though the salsa was flat, very bland and tasted like it came from a jar. My husband makes better salsa than that at home. Again, it was okay, but if I wanted something that tasted like it came out of a jar from the grocery store, then I'd get some chips and salsa at Sam's Club and eat it at home. Seriously, why bother? I've ordered the nachos without beef and they put beef on them, anyway, so they had to remake them. I got an eye roll from a worker for that. They make a decent Guacamole, so I'll give them credit for that. The menu could use a bit of diversification. I know people have their favorites and old standbys, but there aren't enough good vegetarian dishes on the menu. Not everyone wants a beef taco. Sorry, but it's just not legit Mexican or even passable Tex Mex. Literally, every dish needs more seasoning, more spice, more heat. It's just bland and boring and what could be worse for Tex Mex food to be than bland and boring? I do realize this place has been around forever and is a neighborhood staple of sorts, but I just don't get it. Yes, the price is cheap, but the quality just really isn't there. I don't see the attraction. To me, it just doesn't rate. The people who work here seem friendly, but the place could be cleaner and the food is just bland. This is everything you would expect, and want, from a local Mexican restaurant. Its good and basic. The people knocking it are expecting it to be something it's not or have some other axe to grind, they are not based in reality though. The serving sizes are very generous and the staff is attentive. I orderer my kids chicken strips with fries and I have to say this place has the art of deep frying down! Exceptional taste. My wife and I both enjoyed our meals. That I find myself looking forward to going to Flint is almost 100% because of the tacos at this unique place. Authentic? Sort of. Delicious? Yes. Everyone orders the tacos medium which means the corn tortilla shell has spent some extra time in the fryer = puffy. With cheese 1.00 each for beef, 1.30 for chicken. It is a hybrid of Mexican and Michigan, and it works for me. Vegetarians will find the version with frijoles instead of meat to be equally satisfactory. Maybe this would be 3 stars somewhere else, in fact I know it would be. But in the relative absence of food options that is Flint, La Familia Morales stands out. Oh, and it is adored by locals for dine-in and carryout so it can be busy at lunch. I have always been able to find a table though. Great deals on lots of tacos to go (12 for 10.50 with cheese etc.) The hot sauce is their own and I find myself loading up everything I can with it. This is a family owned restaurant that is so good, if you run into someone from Flint and mention it, they will drool right in front of you. It happened today at work, actually, and it made me want to drive all the way over there for some La Familia's lovin'. I'm a hot sauce fiend, and the hot sauce here is excellent. Partner that with something as simple and delicious as their tacos with cheese, and you're all set. That's it. That's all you need to eat to be satisfied. This place is not a "miss" at all, and the fact that it is in Flint only enhances its greatness. Ordered 30 taco tray. Told us to they will be ready at 12:55pm. We got there at 12:45. Told us to sit and wait for order which was fine. We saw a tray come out at 12:55pm. Not once did they say anything. At 1:07 my father had to get back in line to wait to get back to cashier. It was about 10-12 minute wait. Turns out that it was our tray but now the tacos are cold and soggy. They had no response still tried to sell and serve us the tacos. Expect booths to sit in and a walk-up counter for take-out. --Pros-- Chicken was tender, rice was cooked fluffy (just-right for me), and the beans made a good combination. Staff was friendly and also quick with service. --Cons-- Chicken was way too salty, which I think this is common for the region of the country it is in. I am planning on witholding the salt next time so that I can taste the actual flavors. They only have certain types of meat on certain days of the week! My first 1 star. I'm not sure but I think I got food poisoning from here yesterday. I had the chicken enchilada's with rice and beans. I only ate about half of what was on the plate because it really didn't taste very good, that was about 6pm. I felt fine until bedtime. But the next morning I was sick with a headache and you know what else... On top of that the customers there were offensive. Im not trying to be racist but the customers here are definitely racist!
