What can I say, $6 for lunch including the soft drink! Two tacos, red rice and refried beans. Nacho chips and dip to start off. All five of us ordered the same thing only difference being either beef or chicken in the taco. Discussion was how much you should tip. I was seated and waited for over 10 minutes for a waitress to take my order which never happened, no water, no chips and salsa, nothing. I cannot attest to the food but if it's anything like the service and atmosphere I dodged a bullet. The place was dirty, the bar was filled with dirty plates yet no customers in the place. I'm a new arrival to Grand Blanc, and my review is definitely colored by this fact. This is bog standard Am-Mex fare, or maybe a little lower. Chips & salsa: straight from the supplier. Salsa is so bland even the wife objected. I asked if they had something hotter. For a small upcharge waitress brought something out that was indeed hotter but entirely one-note in flavor. We further tested the waters by ordering a small side of guac after first asking if it was made in house. Some menu pics implied it was. "Yes, absolutely!" was the reply. It was not. Actually..... I have some more thoughts on this later. The "guac" is definitely green but that is it's only resemblance to the genuine article . Texture was akin to sour cream. Or perhaps soylent green. There was, somewhere in the background, a tiny, tiny hit of jalapeno. Or I just hadn't fully cleansed my palate of the hotter salsa. For the love of avocado don't order this. Just buy one at Meijer/Kroger and prep it yourself. This is embarrassing. On to the entrees. There isn't much on the menu enticing to folks familiar with options in southwest Detroit. My wife is ok with that; me less so. We both selected burritos - her the Grande and me the Al Pastor. The written menu (as opposed to online) said the salsa verde for the Al Pastor was made "in house". I rather like food service salsa verde so either way I was ok with it. BTW, my wife is a sucker for anything in an AmMex menu titled "California". She did not order the California burrito here because it promised more of the insipid "guacamole". I liked my burrito a little more than I expected. The food service grade salsa verde did its job and I was pleasantly surprised by the occasional burst of pineapple. I'd have been really happy to find the pineapple with a grill mark but I'll take what I can get here. My wife finished hers off but couldn't say she actually *liked* it. I tried a bit and was not impressed even by AmMex standards. Overall I'm not eager to revisit this place. But since Mexican options in this area are sparse and this location is close to our new home I'm sure we'll be back at some point. And this leads to my hope & prayer for EP. On even the most de rigueur AmMex menus there are one or two options to give a discerning diner hope. You just gotta look real close. On EP's menu there are two: the "Mexican Parrillada", and "three corn tacos" in the A La Carte section. I didn't get the former on this visit because it's the most expensive (or close) option and would have ticked my wife off. I didn't get the latter because I was pretty hangry and needed more food. ALL tacos should be in corn tortillas. Others on this menu are flour tortillas. Don't order those, on principle. I'd like to try the corn tacos and ask for some char on the tortillas. If EP can manage that it might be worthy of long-term attendance. Might. Ok, let's finish up this review. There are 5 EP locations, all pretty close. When the menu or a waitress says "in house" what they might mean is something is prepped in a nearby industrial kitchen and shipped to the EP restaurant. That may explain the guacamole and some other stuff. Like perhaps the tortilla chips. You a GB/Flint area native, born & raised? Travel south to try some decent Mexican. You don't have to go to Detroit. Mid-Oakland County has plenty of options worth travelling for. Waterford/Commerce area, Pontiac all have some gems. Even their bog standard AmMex places have interesting choices if you hunt, like the Chile Colorado at one of several Grand Azteca locations. Stop settling. You can do better. read more

What happened to this place? It used to serve good, not great food. We ordered the botana appetizer, it was ok, chicken fajitas, disgusting but the quesadilla combo was most disgusting of all! We typically go here every week or so. This time we waited over 30 minutes for our drinks only half of the party of six got them. Our appetizer never came so we eventually decided to leave. At the time there was only one other table and they had been served. The server claimed he was just about to bring our food but at that point it's hard to trust our food wouldn't have been tampered with. The only other time I've had issues here is with grub hub orders. The food is normally good but customer service can be an afterthought. I've been to the Grand Blanc location many times, and they always do a good or great job. Consistency and knowing that the food will be good has not been a worry. Tuesday night. Not very busy but super slow service. The margarita was good but very weak. I had to buy an extra shot just to make it a normal margarita. Food looked great coming out kitchen but fell short in taste. The guacamole didn't seem fresh or it was just puréed too much. Overall, prob best Mexican place in area, but that's not saying much at all. I'll give them 3 stars only because of competition but they are a 2 star in normal areas. The options for Mexican in Michigan and this area are the weakest I've ever seen in a state in all of the US. At least turn the radio up to hear the Mexican music! Same problem at the 2 joints down the road. No ambiance. Get people excited. This is a Mexican Restaurant, not a funeral. I'll go back, only because the overall restaurant options in this area in are so bad. (Not just Mexican) I could never live here just because of the restaurants. Favorite Mexican restaurant hands down of anywhere I have been worldwide next to Mexico. Always good, friendly and fast. I love the tacos El carbón, the pico and salsa Verde on them are soooo tasty and really give it extra flavor I do ask for the corn shells medium which gives them a slight crisp, never an issue. The queso is seriously addicting. Margs are on point especially the Cadillac. Chile rellenos, green enchiladas, I could go on and on. Bottom line awesome place do not miss this experience. read more

First time in and it won't be our last. Everything was great from the food to the service. The salt & pepper grinders at the table were a nice bonus; we were able to add coarse salt on our tortilla chips, and fine salt for our meal. Although, the meal had an excellent flavor and didn't really need the extra salt. I only used it on my diced tomatoes. Speaking of which, I ordered off of the chef's specials portion of the menu and got the San Jose Special. It came with a cheese and lettuce topping, then the tomatoes, guac, and sour cream were also included toppings and they came in their own side dish, which I really liked compared to the usual smothering on a burrito because I could add to my own liking and they were portable so I could easily take my leftovers. The refried beans were the best I've had in a long time, I'm happy to have some leftover of those as well. It was a good value for tasty food and the atmosphere was great. Not too hyped up or over-the-top festive, which was settling and comfortable. I caught the sign on the way out saying capacity is 100, so decent size but I would expect a wait if it were a Friday or Saturday night. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 today is that the salsa (mild) was not great. It lacked flavor and tasted mostly like stewed tomatoes. I'm really hoping that maybe we just got an early batch that didn't have time to season. We ate on a Sunday, so fingers-crossed they had just gone through too much over the weekend and next time we come in the salsa has a better flavor. Beware when ordering online. There is an option to click to order online and then you place your order. I was in a hurry and did not notice the one sentence disclaimer that their online service is thru grubhub so prices include extra fees. You are directed to a screen to place your order and there are NO references to grubhub or grubhub logos that I saw when I was placing my order so I thought I was ordering directly thru the restaurant. There are actually el Potrero logos at the top of the screen not grubhub. I showed up to pick up my take out order and the waitstaff informed me I paid more for ordering online and should have telephoned my order in. I asked to have them void the order and redo it, but I was told they couldn't do that and I'd have to call Grubhub and try to get them to void the order and credit me back before they could then ring me up for the regular menu prices. I have eaten at or gotten take out at two of the el Potrero locations a number of times. The food is fine. Chips are not so great, maybe average. I was very disappointed on how they handled the situation and I made it clear to them that there are many Mexican restaurants to choose from in the area so I would be choosing to not visit their locations ever again. It Is my opinion that there are many other mexican restaurants with better food and chips and el Potrero never seems to be that busy when I've been there, so I was surprised that they were willing to lose a customer without doing anything to make the situation right. That was their choice just like it is my choice to not visit their restaurant again. Beware of ordering online. You are ordering thru grubhub and paying more. me and my husband was there for dinner we were not crazy about the food not very good but we just decided we would not go back then the bill comes and the prices on the menu did not reflect what the bill was so I asked he said they were in the process of getting new menus and there is a sticker on the front of the menu I said let me see the menu so then the manager comes over and has a attitude with a menu showing me this sticker you could barely see on the front of the menu saying no one else had a problem with it well yes I did have a problem with my bill being higher for crap food he did take the 2.00 off the bill with attitude it should have been 4.00 overcharged for my husband food as well they should just wait to their new menus come in for the price change so greedy read more
