Party of three on a Sunday afternoon. There were two servers on the entire floor, one of who was the bartender. Our server was the other, but she was pulled between several tables on our side and a large party in the other dining room. In spite of that, she still managed to serve us well when she was available. The kitchen runner who also functioned as host had his earbuds in, so when trying to let him know about missing items, he simply kept walking, unable to hear us. The food seemed a little off. We had been here before and it just wasn't the same. The kitchen brought the items out at various times, but between the actual plates, the tortillas and the guacamole, at least ten minutes went by. I am not sure we would have gotten it all, had we not asked about it. We had to ask for hot sauce separately, because that is no longer provided on the tables. I literally never complain at restaurants, I'm not a fan of shitting on people, but oh my gosh, the service was awful. The waitress came to our table twice while we were seated (and one of those times was because I was feeling sick and needed water and my husband had to go find her to get it). She seemed like she might be nice but she was kind of sassy and like she couldn't be bothered with us. The food was below average and I'm not a picky eater by any means, it just wasn't good quality. I got the Chicken Quesadilla. I wasn't impressed by the chicken. It did indeed taste like canned chicken (almost tuna fish consistency) as stated on previous posts. My friend and I split hot, fresh-off-the-grill shrimp, beef, chicken fajitas. They did not disappoint us with the generous quantity of meat and shrimp - plus the delicious grilled peppers and onions on the smoldering skillet added to what went on our tortilla or directly in our mouths from that beautiful mound of food. The Spanish rice and the house menu's refried beans were a tasty, too. We had plenty of condiments, to add even more deliciousness to our concoctions. I ended taking home what we could not finish. Those leftovers did not see the next morning as I gave them a nice warm home. We plan on returning to try other offerings from El Potrero's menu. It was our first time visiting the Flint location. Friendliness and customer service are exemplary! We wanted for nothing, and they really pay attention to detail. One of my favorite Mexican food places. We've had pretty much everything on the menu over the last decade & never had a bad meal. Prices have increased greatly as everything else has. They even charge $1.10 for the "hot" sauce when they used to just give it to you upon request. And some of the draft beers that my husband drinks has doubled in price. read more

Food was cold when brought to the table after waiting almost a hour , which then I just asked for a to go box but the other half of my order was never brought out , I only asked for the missing portion of the 2 entree dinner including the beans and rice to be removed from the bill at checkout and the manager was very rude and unpleasant, stating they had a large party and were very busy. Then he got very irritate about me not wanting to wait for the portion they forgot. So when he removed that portion from my bill he tried to belittle me by saying go ahead and investigate the bill I'm not trying to hide anything in a very condescending tone , I said , sir I'm not trying to be difficult but I'm tired of waiting and will just take the portion that was brought to the table in my to go box . All he did was repeat himself by saying, "very busy, big party and I am coming off of very bad night last night". Well he will not never have to worry about my family in his restaurant again , I didn't talk to him disrespectful and he had one opportunity to talk to me with respect and he severely failed. Let me start by saying that I do take into consideration staffing shortages and the hard times we are currently going through, but I still expect a satisfactory experience. My fiance and I visited a few days after Christmas. Service was extremely slow, it seemed that we were forgotten about by our server more than once. The food overall was decent, could have been better, but could have been worse. The margaritas were good too. My issue with our experience is with the off shifty workers. There were two or three women sitting at the bar that were off shift. I believe they met up on a day they were not working. They were talking about their work in an extremely unprofessional manner, complaining and talking about things that should not be within earshot of other guests. They were also extremely loud, swearing and using offensive language, and talking about being drunk/intoxicated. Had we not already ordered our food, we probably would have left and went elsewhere. How can I feel appreciated as a customer when there are employees sitting around b****ing about their jobs, coworkers, customers, etc? Since coming from California three years ago, I have not been able to find decent Mexican food to the point where I've had to like spend $80 and throw it in the trash, we only deal with authentic real Mexican food and have not been able to find one sense, I have got to say that this is the best place for Mexican food. A group of hospital friends met here for our monthly dinner. We all agreed that we would not be back. The service started out fine until they got a little busy and the waitress went AWOL. Food was not authentic Mexican. Smothered in cheese and less than quality ingredients. Three of us mentioned that the beef tasted strange and that was enough for me to ditch the rest of the meal. When an establishment moves out of a strip center into its own building nearby, that's usually a pretty good sign that they're doing good for themselves, which must mean that people enjoy their food. Such is the case with El Portrero, which scooted a bit north (next to Burger King) and and took up residence in an old rib joint. The decor and menu are pleasantly authentic/Tex-Mex with both traditional and progressive offerings plus a full bar that stands prominently in the center of the place. I ordered the El Guero Special - strips of grilled chicken, steak, chorizo, and shrimp sautéed with onions and mushrooms topped with melted cheese. Served with rice, beans, and tortillas for $11.99. Prices across the board looked to be very reasonable. Food was very tasty and the margs were awesome as well. My server was a little over-attentive, maybe pressure's on to please here in the new location. They should fix the step from the host stand to the dining room. Stopped at El Potrero with a friend on a late, freezing cold night. There was only a few other people dining in. Our server was very friendly and made some good suggestions on what to order since it was both our first visit. My friend had a shrimp and chicken dish with a white cream sauce on top. It came with flour tortillas, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. I decided on the shrimp enchiladas with a white cheese sauce and onions on top. Wow this has really gone down hill. Some said it was other location but I've eaten both now in 3 months. Saginaw burned the food, Fenton road gave watery beans with over cooked chimi. Dry stew beef in one meal, empty shell in shrimp chimi. Just sad. We were actually worried about the beans. It's our own fault for wanting it to be 5 years ago. Went there for the beer specials to find out that they no longer exist. However, after me and the MRS. had a $9 and $6 draught, the food was Really Good! The Fajitas platter is amazingly large. Very tasty. We will have another meal tomorrow with the abundant leftovers. They offer fajitas for one or two. I think that the Fajitas for one will EASILY feed two people with a large appetite. Update Review: This location has its ups and downs. Understaffing during the week is a problem (Mon-Thr). Seating will take a long time and your food will be slow coming out. Its 80% chance it will be correct when it does come out. During the weekend (Fri-Sun), everything is generally great. Seating is quick and food is quick for being a weekend. I wish the owners would place some attention to properly managing the place. This used to be a favorite for our Mexican food choice, but we've been choosing other places during the week. Very disappointed with our meal here tonight. This restaurant came recommended by a few co-workers and so we were excited to try it. We got steak and chicken fajitas and were very unimpressed. It was a slop of mushy onions and peppers, the tiniest pieces of steak you've ever seen, and the grittiest, fattiest parts of the chicken. The rice and beans were cold and lacked flavor. Chips and salsa were good and the staff was friendly and did a good job, but boy were we disappointed with our meal. Especially since we paid $40 for mushy veggies and poorly seasoned rice and beans.
