The drink was great and reasonably priced, but it felt like a weird vibe to be solo at a place so dark and which felt like a couple's place and/or you needed to be with buddies to feel safe or comfortable. I love visiting local spots on my own, but it was too dark for my liking however, others around me looked like they were enjoying their time. I'd have to visit again with someone and see how my opinion changes. Back in the day it felt like a locals sports bar, very lively. One room, the main area had salsa, dancing, and music and eventually at 9:30 PM a live salsa band came on. That was a whole lot of fun however it was very crowded. The second room had a nice house music going on. There was a bar and a DJ and it was not as busy as the main area was. And the third room was the bar that leads to the outside called La Cubanita, which was playing mellow lounge music with a tropical beat. The food at La Factoria was definitely overrated and just OK. I did not think it was worth the price and I probably would not eat there again. None of us really liked what we ordered, but we ate it because well... We were hungry. They do offer a wide range of beverages from your standard beer, wine, and top shelf brands, however, they are known for their own concoctions. All of the drinks we ordered were delicious. Overall, we had fun, and it was not too pricey for the beverages. They had the same funny signs as the pubs in Los Angeles, but played live Puerto Rican music. This place is famous for making good long islands and the drinks are super cheap. It gets sweatingly crowded in here even though the two story pub fits a couple billiard tables, several bars, a live band on stage, a huge dance floor, and another room for more tables. This place is not a tourist spot. If you don't look like a native Puerto Rican, expect to get mean stares from the local gals as I and my group of girlfriends did. Although we minded our own business, my girlfriends experienced some harsh we-don't-want -your-kind-here stares along with lots of not-so-accidental pushes and shoves on the dance floor. But the staff and food were great, so that made up for the location not being the best. I had my first of many Island Summer Ale beers here (brewed in St. John). Served very crisp and cold in a frosty bottle. For food, I had the fish tacos (when in Rome - or on an island, in this case), along with tater tots. The tacos were tasty, with fried fish, lettuce, and a cheesy sauce on top. My friend had tacos too, but picked the beef protein, and chose the beans as her side. Her's also looked delish, so I would try those if I ever make it back that way. As we left (after dark), the bartender did us another favor. We almost got in the wrong car, thinking it was our taxi, and he ran out and grabbed us and said that was not a taxi at all! I'm not positive it would have been dangerous to get in the car, but it definitely felt like he saved us. If you're staying in the Havensight area of St. Thomas, and don't mind a sports bar style atmosphere vs. beachy vibe, then I would recommend checking out out Dog House Pub for the tacos and beer!

It's small, loud, a little gritty, and completely inviting--exactly what a true dive bar should be. The walls are covered in graffiti and stickers from years of visitors leaving their mark, and honestly, that's part of the magic. You can't help but look around and smile at all the personality packed into such a cozy space. One of my favorite details? Look over to the right corner of the bar and you'll spot what looks like a vintage cash register straight out of the 1800s. Then right in the middle of the bar you've got the modern point-of-sale devices. The contrast is hilarious and perfect--old-school charm meeting modern bar life.
