This was my first time going to El Diablo, I must say the food was absolutely delicious. I order a steak bowl with white rice, black beans, pepper jack cheese, spicy Pico De Gallo, corn salsa, jalepenos and Chipotle Ranch dressing. It was out of this world , so much that I ordered the exact same bowl to take home for tomorrow. The staff were so friendly and helpful in deciding what to ordered and their knife skills were on point. I would definitely give them a 5 rating and recommend the Newark, DE location by the University. You will not be disappointed. read more

Wow what a pleasant surprise! Was expecting just a college campus version of Chipotle, but I was wrong! A. It's clean! B. The food tastes super healthy, in a good way! Not a hint of grease like normal fast food restaurants. Ordered the braised short rib (one of the predetermined options) and thoroughly enjoyed it! The sauce was delicious, not too heavy! Amazing selection of fresh ingredients, great service by young enthusiastic servers. Hard to get an outside table, but it was a Monday evening so we used the table at the closed restaurant next door. I was in Newark, Delaware, at the University helping my son get back to campus life after three semesters at home due to Covid. We were both happy to have him resume his college life. We got hungry and he chose this place, El Diablo Burrito for early dinner. "The Devil" is a small local chain of Mexican-lite grub. He loves this "Chipotle" assembly line approach to Mexican food, and while I am a fan of South of the Border cuisine, I like a more diverse menu and the chance for a margarita or cervesas as a washdown. So, I let him pick where to eat, and I would go along with making him content. The line was short. He ordered a short rib burrito stuffed with brown rice, a couple of salsas, cheese, lettuce and a smear of guacamole. I went with a grilled fish bowl with house recommendations of brown rice, lettuce, pinto beans, pineapple and corn salsa, jalapeno slices, and top squirt of queso blanco. Son's burrito was fat with what seemed like a half pound of beef and all the fixings. He didn't offer to share it, and ate the whole thing as a watched in awe. His sly smile at the last bite was a hint about how much he enjoyed it. My bowl was tasty and very filling. Had to stop before I was half way done. The white fish was light with mild flavor, while the rest of the ingredients were a blend of hot, spicy and citrus sweet. Everything played well in my mouth. Amazing what a little pineapple can do for otherwise standard elements. At least I see what the young man likes about these places, even though they will never be my first choice in Mexican fare. My husband comes here all the time and raves about El Diablo. I finally go there chance to try it the other day. I got the short rib burrito which I've never seen as a meat choice for a burrito before and was excited to try! I got a bunch of toppings in my burritos including onions, peppers, tomato salsa and pineapple salsa. My burrito was so big they could barely wrap it up! Short rib was pretty good and tender. The whole burrito is absolutely delicious. We also go chips and sides of queso. The queso was good but I def. Like white queso better at other places. The queso was so thick instead of creamy. Good- but be careful not to put too much in the burrito. The last two times I ordered a veggie burrito it had so much a sci-fi I had to scoop half the burrito filling out. Luckily I ordered chips so I used it as dip. Caveat- I've only had veggie burritos so I can't speak for a true cross section of the menu read more

I'm always impressed by any place that makes a burrito the size of a newborn baby. El Diablo is a more exciting option than neighboring Chipotle and offers a larger variety of ingredients including fish, pineapple salsa, and an assortment of dressings. The tortillas can hold a superhuman amount of stuff and the portions are sufficient for two meals, or one gargantuan meal if you're overly ambitious like me. We crossed the border to visit the University on a Wednesday night. I was unaware the whole town shut down the main drag for music and outdoor seating on a nice evening, so we walked around the downtown before deciding we'd try out El Diablo. While some may wonder if this is a knockoff of Chipotle or other similar places, it is not. It is certainly does not have a chain feel and the employees were quite nice (college students). They answered quite a few questions for me as they made my burrito. I did chose the chicken with the corn salsa. Everything was quite fresh and the quality was good. I did enjoy this burrito as we sat outside of the restaurant and listened to music played by live bands. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area! read more

My boyfriend and I love el Diablo. Almost every time we come to Newark, we eat here. It's a chipotle-like system. You go down the line and tell them what you'd like on your burrito, bowl, tacos, or quesadilla. Usually, the girls working there are not very friendly and make it seem like a chore to make your order. My boyfriend consistently gets the same thing. A mahi-mahi burrito. He loves it and never gets sick of it. I have never personally tried it, but he says the fish is very tasty. I usually try different variations of the same combination every time I go. I get the mushrooms as my protein. They are the best mushrooms I've ever had! The red pepper walnut dressing is also worth trying. It keeps me coming back for more! The quesadilla is probably my favorite at el Diablo. The burritos and bowls are good, and I've never tried the tacos. Just as a side note, this place is very vegetarian/vegan friendly. As a heads up, the refried beans do have bacon in them, so be sure to order the black beans if you are vegetarian. El Diablo is definitely a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. Oh god, I love this place so much. It's the best fast-casual Tex Mex type place you could ever ask for - and this is coming from someone who used to live in California. Everything is so fresh and delicious and the portions are massive. My go-to order is a salad (with romaine/kale mix), pinto beans, chicken, pepper jack, spicy pico de gallo, tons and tons of cilantro (YESSS!!), and lots of pickled onions and peppers. This combo is so, so good, but what truly takes it over the top is the chipotle ranch and tortilla strips. I'm usually not a ranch gal, but El Diablo's is the perfect mix of creamy and spicy. And the tortilla strips? Oh my god. They are so crispy and fresh and add the most perfect crunch to mix with the salad. Truly heavenly. They also have serve some unique fountain drinks that I'll get once in a while. The sparkling lemonade is refreshing, especially if you get lots of spicy toppings in your bowl like I do. El D is one of my fav restaurants of all time - just wish they had more locations outside of Delaware! read more

El diablo is my favorite spot to eat on Main Street. They are entirely superior to chipotle and Qdoba because of their portion sizes and options!! It is a little more expensive than the competitors but so worth it. I'm obsessed with the pineapple salsa and the Chipotle Ranch sauce, but they have many other ingredients that give you many more ways to customize your meal. They also have mushrooms as a vegetarian/vegan option which I've not seen others do and I think that's pretty cool. If you go at a busy time you might have a hard time finding a seat especially with a big group so just keep that in mind. read more

Easily the best of its kind - better than Chipotle, Qdoba, Moe's, etc. They've got such variety and high quality ingredients. Their music is modern, their staff is nice, and their prices are fair. You get a lot of food, especially when you order a bowl. When I leave Delaware to go home to New Jersey, I truly miss El Diablo. Even during this pandemic, they've stayed open in some locations, with newly-installed plexi glass to protect the employees and taped off places to stand so customers distance themselves from each other. When I was a tour guide at UD, this is one of the places I'd recommend to visiting families all the time. I recommend it to you, as well. read more

Been going here for years, the burritos are pretty good, i usually get a salad with fish. They used to be great, they used to have mahi mahi, but they changed that to wahoo. They used to charge $9.50 for a big salad with mahi. Now they charge $11 for a smaller, medium sized Salad. They decreased the size recently, and the number of ingredients seems have decreased too. The salads used to be great, now theyre just average. Disappointing. read more

good burrito. Very much in the vein of the Chipotles of the world. El Diablo set itself SLIGHTLY apart by having things like pineapple salsa and other various accoutrements. to add to your burrito. I had the braised short rib with said pineapple salsa and the standard burrito fare. It was HUGE, and when they rolled it, it literally started to burst out of the tortilla. A tiny little hole really, but I heard the manager yell out, "NEW TORTILLA PLEASE!" and began to make the worker rewrap my burrito. I waved him off; (its about to get slammed down my gaping maw, so I was ok with a tiny shred) but it was cool that they want to make sure you get a perfect item. It was expensive, even for the size of the burrito, but I wasn't unhappy with my purchase. I recommend it if you're looking to step outside of the Chipotle box and still want a bomb burrito. read more

Can't say enough how much I love love love this place. Even more than it's other location in Wilmington. Once you tried the food here you'll never want to go back across the street (chipotle). Portions are huge and the combinations are endless. They have chicken, steak, braised short ribs, fish(i guess w/e is in season) and mushrooms (and more i may have missed 1 or 2) as main choice of meat/veg. Oh and there is a board that "suggest" pairings with sauce and other toppings (very useful). They have a fresh PINEAPPLE SPICY salsa!!!! not canned stuff either. Depending on the season they may or may not have guac and they will post a polite sign stating how they only serve the best quality ingredients so they will not have guac if they don't have good avocados or if they aren't in season. I always get a burrito bowl and have tried almost all their meat choices but i have found my favorite combo: Steak burrito bowl with: mushrooms, brown rice, black beans, jack cheese, lettuce, pineapple salsa, corn salsa, pickled shallots, jalapeños, cilantro, and for sauce i choose what they recommend which is what the steak was marinated in and i also get jalapeño honey sauce on the side! Must tryyyyyyyy!!! My boyfriend and I always go on a weekend and there is never too long of a wait, esp if its summer or winter break for the college students near by. Service is always speedy and polite. We come here at least 3 times a month and each time we are never unsatisfied. This place is a true gem. read more

I had to give this place a try because why not. We have all, at some point, been to a Chipotle or Qdoba and know what to expect. Usually, other places that advertise burritos and the like are just permutations of the above 2. Well, there are some variation with regards to different additives like queso. This place still has the basics and more. One magical word: BACON! Yep, love the fact that you can get bacon on this bad boy. Now me, I'm all about the bowl for many reasons. For the purposes of this review, a bowl allows me to deconstruct the food a bit to taste independent flavors. I got steak, black beans, half Colby half cheddar (ya I know), guacamole, sour cream, pico, and medium sauce. It was delish. You know, you can have the same basic items in a dish. The way this place separates from the rest is hows it's done. The guacamole had flavor. Good cilantro and lime flavor with not too much salt. The meat was cooked and seasoned well. But....the bacon. It tied it allll together. If your in the downtown area, check it out. You will not be disappointed. read more

Great little place. It felt like a homey alternative to chipotle. I ordered a chicken bowl, and they actually give you a large ceramic bowl for eating in instead of the takeaway cardboard bowls. Food was decent. It's definitely a bit pricier than your average Mexican/burrito place. But, if you need a quick fix, this is a solid spot for a good meal. I was very excited to try El Diablo and was incredibly disappointed. It's 30% more expensive than the closest competitor, and the food is mediocre at best. I will not be returning. The portion was huge, but only about 1/4 was the rice, beans, and meat, and 3/4 was the veggie topping. I soon realized that didn't matter. The food is absolutely flavorless, as if everything had been boiled with no seasoning rather than baked or grilled. Once I mixed up my burrito bowl I simply could not distinguish between any ingredients other than the chicken because it was very, very dry. When I mixed in the recommended sauce at least then it had a flavor, but it all tasted the same. If you want, for example, ranch flavored meat, ranch flavored rice, ranch flavored beans, and ranch flavored veggies, then you might like this. read more

Holy guacamole (no pun intended). This place really took me by surprise! I ordered a burrito bowl with: brown rice, black & pinto beans, mahi-mahi, cheddar jack cheese, lettuce, and corn salsa. I also got the cilantro lime dressing and it was all fantastic!! The portion was massive, you definitely get what you pay for! Everything was fresh and flavorful. El Diablo has the resemblance of Chipotle, (which BTW is right across the street) but on another level. Like gourmet. Just a lot more meat/veggie options, toppings, and different sauces that make endless combos. You can either build your own or use the board as a guide. My main preference has always been the burrito bowl. As each bite I take packs a punch of flavor without getting too messy. I usually share mine, so I anticipate when it's my turn to devour. Service can be on and off depending on the amount of crowd there is. However, still quick. It is slightly pricier, but its more bang for your buck as portions are huge.
