Best burritos in DE, in my opinion. Way better than Chipotle, they actually mix up the burrito filling instead of making some kind of mexican lasagna. Gets crowded during dinner time so I'd suggest going a little early or a little late to beat the line, but you can't rush perfection. read more

They do offer a different variety of meats and toppings than other larger chains, including mahi, short rib, and roasted mushroom. I enjoyed my food but it wasn't particularly flavorful or unique; I ordered my burrito bowl with one of the recommended sauces and that was pretty much all I could taste. It is slightly on the pricey side at $12.50 for a chicken bowl or burrito. Service was relatively fast although people were allowed to cut in front of me to get drinks or gift cards while I was waiting for pay for my already made food. I rushed out and didn't check what they put in my bag. I came home and got the tiny steak burrito that they made for my husband (I picked up food for him), chips but they forgot to put my meal in there! I trusted this place to make sure everything is put in there before leaving but now this just fortifies my need to double check everything. My husband ended up calling them since I was about to be on my call and they said they would give him a free meal when he came in. He went over there and they remade my order (not sure what happened with my bowl? I guess an employee ate it instead). Great food establishment! They listen to each customer and strive hard to get your order right. Considerably high turnover in recent years resulted in a dip in overall service about two years ago, but they've got a really strong team now (Branmar Plaza). They take the mention of any food allergy very seriously, although, because they use an assembly line approach, I have seen examples where an order could be compromised if communication of an allergy is not verbally mentioned BEFORE the next person touches it. Customers can easily watch their food being prepared which ensures no compromise in the case of a gluten allergy. Sometimes it has appeared the person working the register assists with the grill without changing their gloves. I also once observed an employee pull out their iPhone from their back pocket and return it without changing their gloves. Perhaps they'll revamp their process in this area. The menu is very Chipotle-esque in style, but with more flavor/protein options. Had I not been to a Chipotle before, I would find it overwhelming. I opted for a chicken bowl, my partner got a short rib bowl. We tailored the toppings to our taste and each followed a recommendation for dressing (chipotle ranch for the chicken, salsa verde for the short rib). It was YUM and my god it was A BIG-A$$ bowl. Seriously. I'm writing this 5 hours later and I am still stuffed. The big winner for each of us flavor-wise was the pineapple salsa: it had the perfect kick and sweet tang to highlight some of the marinade flavors on each our proteins. Our service was efficient despite a lunch rush, and the place was clean. Not much they could really do better for what they are if you ask me. At the completion of the order I went to check and the server gave my food away. The girl at the front basically said I think someone (guy) took your food. Ended up eating here since the Chipotle had horrible reviews - it was very good, fresh ingredients and friendly younger staff. Inside the restaurant is very clean with plenty of seating, but I took my order to go. It is in a little strip mall and the outside looked recently renovated. However, there was no restaurant name sign, just the "open" sign. I ended up asking someone if this was El Diablo before walking in because the windows were so tinted that you couldn't even see inside. It's a lot like the fast casual places that have burritos...you order and the counter and they make it for you. But it's more like deli shop service whereas you tell a person what you want and they writd it down and make it. The selections are all over the place forain fillings, with several chicken and pork options. They also have a variety of sauces, and I wish it were close enough that I could keep going back to try them all. Staff was A+. Finally, a cool thing...they have local beverages here. Not a chain, though there is at least one other El Diablo in Wilmington, this does work pretty much the same as the other burrito places. Which is not to say it's bad. Just that there's a system that works well so stick to it. Salads, tacos, burritos. Pick your rice (I recommend the brown). Pick your beans (pinto or black). Pick your protein (I recommend the pork but the chicken was excellent). And then pick your cheese, salsa and other toppings. Maybe some bacon or chorizo? Because the other guys ain't got that! Expect your burrito to be on the larger size of large. Like almost the size of a football. My only complaint is that the stuffings aren't very mixed. You'll get one bite of chicken, followed by one of salsa, followed by one of rice. There should be a jumble of flavors here and it shouldn't be like eating a wrapped Swanson's TV dinner. $7.50 for a massive burrito was a decent deal. I opted not to have a drink or chips. read more
