Came across El Dorado on our drive up from TN. As a native California, my love for Mexican food is huge! I read through the yelp comments and the feedback was mostly about pricing. Anytime I can have a cooked meal versus fast food is winning! Honesty, the pricing was not that bad. We ordered the mocajete, which is for 2 people. It's giant! The meat is fresh with a great selection of steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo. Also, there is grilled cactus, onions, and Mexican cheese. On top of this giant feast, both of us got a side of rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and tortillas. Our food was so delicious and the staff here is so nice! Always friendly, always quick. Seems like an entire family goes out of their way to serve you, like you're a guest in their home, not just a patron at a restaurant. Food is always delicious. Restaurant should have been much more crowded than it was - the dinner we had was very good. Shrimp fajita was excellent, with shrimp not over cooked. There is no reason one meal for one person should be $20, not in this small town. People can't afford that. My mother and I were looking for a place to eat before a show at Renfro Valley. There aren't many options in the area, maybe a handful of fast food spots and one restaurant that had a line of people waiting out the door. We didn't have time for that, so we decided to try El Dorado based on a family friend's word. It wasn't very busy, so we were seated right away. The restaurant was very clean. Our waitress was friendly and informative about their specials. I was surprised to hear they have a buffet. I haven't seen that before in a Mexican Restaurant. Anyway, I ordered the Chef special, which was steak with mushrooms, shrimp, and cheese sauce, accompanied with rice and beans. My mother ordered the same. It came out in a reasonable amount of time, accurate and hot. The beans were typical, rice was lacking in flavor, but the steak and shrimp were good. As of now, there are 5 Yelp reviews for this restaurant, and they are all bad. I am eating here now, and I'm not seeing what they are seeing. Like MOST Mexican restaurants in the US, outside of CA, TX, and NM (maybe others), it is not super-authentic Mexican. However it is good. I got the Carnita Fajita. It was not the best I've ever had, but it was pretty darn good. I had an order of guacamole, and it was good, as well. I am originally from a town near Mount Vernon, so I just have to say I think the people passing through on I-75 will probably enjoy it more than the locals. The service was efficient and friendly, and the food came out quickly. As of 7/28/19, they do not have an alcohol license, but if I understand correctly, they are working on that. The papas and cheese we got tasted a day old, were cold, and came with extra jalapeños when I told them twice without jalapeños and you could barely see any cheese or sauce. The chimichangas I ordered, the chicken was good, the rice was cold, old and mushy. The taco salad was ok except for the old nasty lettuce they put on top. While traveling, we stopped at this restaurant on the way home because we searched (google) for Vegetarian options in the area and Mexican sounded good. When we arrived, they were not busy but the servers took a long time bringing chips and salsa and our drinks. The salsa was in a tiny container and tasted like stewed tomatoes.
