Came across El Dorado on our drive up from TN. As a native California, my love for Mexican food is huge! I read through the yelp comments and the feedback was mostly about pricing. Anytime I can have a cooked meal versus fast food is winning! Honesty, the pricing was not that bad. We ordered the mocajete, which is for 2 people. It's giant! The meat is fresh with a great selection of steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo. Also, there is grilled cactus, onions, and Mexican cheese. On top of this giant feast, both of us got a side of rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and tortillas. Our food was so delicious and the staff here is so nice! The restaurant isn't about frills, but the food was good. I love supporting family owned businesses! We sat outside since we had our pup with us. El Dorado is a No-No! All of my food tasted like Fabuloso. The place was empty and they were obviously in cleaning mode at 8 pm, although they are open until 10. They have a cute outdoor area, but it was not open when we were there. None of our food was very good. Very mediocre. Margaritas were only $2, but they had a weird taste. Go elsewhere....we were overcharged $18. When we asked about the bill they stated that "we were good" and would not show us what we were charged for. We did not want to make a seen so just left and will not return. Service was VERY slow....was not busy. We received our drink order halfway through our meal. Always friendly, always quick. Seems like an entire family goes out of their way to serve you, like you're a guest in their home, not just a patron at a restaurant. Food is always delicious. The price is the price, and worth every penny. Chips and salsa never run out. I usually eat solo and never ever have a complaint to make. In fact, heading there right now tonight... The flautas were DELICIOUS. I always order guacamole on the side, first thing. Reason I love their guacamole? They leave the "salt" to you. Many places have an overbearing lime flavor, or heavy salt. These guys let you do it yourself, and that's crucial. I also had a stuffed Chile relleno.... Spicy sauce on top. I think they toned it down some, but still... very good! Restaurant should have been much more crowded than it was - the dinner we had was very good. Shrimp fajita was excellent, with shrimp not over cooked. I hate to give them a bad review because honestly the owners are nice sweet people, and the food is always good. But over the last few months the prices have doubled sometimes tripled... There is no reason one meal for one person should be $20, not in this small town. People can't afford that. I don't know why the prices doubled suddenly but they need to understand that most people in this relatively poor community can't afford those prices. If it's unlimited inside restaurant not sure why they can't use a decent size cup and actually fill it up. Especially, when someone orders and pays extra. DO NOT ORDER SOUR CREAM!!! They charge you $1.99 for a side of watery "sour cream" that doesn't taste like anything. On a side note, they have at least improved their salsa so that it actually has tomatoes and doesn't just taste like tomato juice. read more

My mother and I were looking for a place to eat before a show at Renfro Valley. There aren't many options in the area, maybe a handful of fast food spots and one restaurant that had a line of people waiting out the door. We didn't have time for that, so we decided to try El Dorado based on a family friend's word. It wasn't very busy, so we were seated right away. The restaurant was very clean. Our waitress was friendly and informative about their specials. I was surprised to hear they have a buffet. I haven't seen that before in a Mexican Restaurant. Anyway, I ordered the Chef special, which was steak with mushrooms, shrimp, and cheese sauce, accompanied with rice and beans. My mother ordered the same. It came out in a reasonable amount of time, accurate and hot. The beans were typical, rice was lacking in flavor, but the steak and shrimp were good. I noticed that the tables were bussed immediately and they do a good job at keeping it clean. If I'm in the area and hungry again, I wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

As of now, there are 5 Yelp reviews for this restaurant, and they are all bad. I am eating here now, and I'm not seeing what they are seeing. Like MOST Mexican restaurants in the US, outside of CA, TX, and NM (maybe others), it is not super-authentic Mexican. However it is good. I got the Carnita Fajita. It was not the best I've ever had, but it was pretty darn good. I had an order of guacamole, and it was good, as well. I am originally from a town near Mount Vernon, so I just have to say I think the people passing through on I-75 will probably enjoy it more than the locals. The service was efficient and friendly, and the food came out quickly. As of 7/28/19, they do not have an alcohol license, but if I understand correctly, they are working on that. That should have been a clue since other places had a too long a wait and this place had plenty of empty tables. It didn't take long for chips (STALE) and salsa (Blah) to arrive. Called in for takeout. I know it was kind of a big order but I wasn't in a rush. The papas and cheese we got tasted a day old, were cold, and came with extra jalapeños when I told them twice without jalapeños and you could barely see any cheese or sauce. The chimichangas I ordered, the chicken was good, the rice was cold, old and mushy. The taco salad was ok except for the old nasty lettuce they put on top. While traveling, we stopped at this restaurant on the way home because we searched (google) for Vegetarian options in the area and Mexican sounded good. When we arrived, they were not busy but the servers took a long time bringing chips and salsa and our drinks. The salsa was in a tiny container and tasted like stewed tomatoes. The server didn't understand English so I went up to the cashier to ask about vegan options, she was nice but confused. A man came over and said their was lard in the beans but they were on the vegetarian menu so I asked about other options, he said no options. My husband already ordered so I asked about the Guacamole and he said that was veg. so I ordered it. My husbands meal came out 5 min. before my guacamole.
