This was my first time to this particular farm and it was probably my favorite! We arrived around 2:30 pm on a Sunday and it was not crazy busy like some other spots. They had plenty of food and shopping vendors, best of all they had apple slushes and floats! The kids enjoyed the face painting and little areas to play like the free hay maze. They also have a train ride that goes around the lake. A bit pricey at $5 per person (anyone above 1 year old) considering the short ride but at least the kids enjoyed it! read more

We've came here a bunch of times. There's plenty of parking off of the side on a gravel based area under trees. There always vendors setup selling all sorts of souvenirs and trinkets. They have a really cool large chair tiny hay maze for little kids, all kinds of places to take memorable photos. Kids love the train and the train operator is always very nice. We stopped by El Dorado Orchards for a little fall fun and it was perfect! They had a small pumpkin patch - perfect for photo spots. We tried the apple beer-- crisp and refreshing while we walked around. The train rides added a sweet nostalgic touch and would be great for families, but even just the two of us had such a nice time soaking in the cozy, small-town fall vibes with all the vendors for shopping. Believe it or not there is more to Apple Hills than just High Hills. This is one of the orchards in Apple Hills and one of my favorites. It's not as big as High Hills but it's also not as busy. There's plenty of parking and it's not a far walk to the orchard. Right in front actually. There are a good amount of vendors selling cute crafts so it's a great way to support local as well. They are Dog Friendly so I brought my dog along. There was also plenty of other dogs as well. They have bathrooms not just the portable potty's which is a huge plus. The highlight for the kids is the train that they have. They sell food here. There are 3 vendors. One sells the apple slushies and apple floats which are a must get! There a pie shack that sells pies, cookies and such. Then another vendor that sells tamales and nachos. If you come after thanksgiving they have a huge Christmas tree farm as well. It's so huge that it doesn't seem to get crowded. We were able to take our family Christmas photos here without needed to make a reservation likes some of the other Christmas tree farms in the area read more

Saw this cute and small orchard driving through Apple hill. There's craft vendors, vendors from other orchards, and a small train for kids! It's wasn't as busy as other orchards, might be because it's a little farther along a side road, but I liked it! It was a nice relaxing stop on our trip through Apple hill and got to try an apple cider shake (picture shows a small) which was bursting with whipped cream and yummy creamy, apple, and cinnamon flavor (exactly what you'd think of an apple cider milkshake). read more

Stopped by to check out the grounds and take a few pictures while visiting Apple Hill. There were a few vendors selling cute jewelry and I actually purchased some lavender lotion from a seller who made all her own bath products. The train was cute but seems like a short ride. I decided against it since we don't have kids. From the grounds you could see the pond with ducks and geese. It was sort of quiet on a weekday. I wouldn't say it's a destination of its own according but a cute stop when you're visiting Apple Hill. They're open Friday-Sunday only, so plan accordingly, Masks were required and mostly warn. Being a mother of three, I always do as much planning as I can ahead of time to make trips run smoothly. I researched which farms were ideal for kids. El Dorado came up as one of the many, offering face paint, apple goods, a craft fair and a scenic train ride. El Dorado did not disappoint. Our first visit, my kids got face paint from a nice young lady and took a scenic train ride around two ponds lined with beautiful fall foliage. Although the train ride was not as long as the family hoped for it to be, we still ride it every season because it is just that special. The small, yet quaint farm is right next to two of the busiest farms- BOA Vista and High Hill Ranch- and is nestled away from the crowds. If you're looking for an ideal spot for having a picnic, a fun place to relax while still being able to shop, and some apple goods to enjoy, I'd highly recommend El Dorado Orchards. Nice small beautiful orchard. Although not as expansive as some of the other ones, this place does attract a crowd. They have some arts and crafts place, and their Apple Shakes are a must try. A five minute train ride here around their lake cost $5.00 and plenty of areas to take memorable pictures. This is a run down place with little going for it. Pro - Train rides (although not well balanced or sturdy. It feels like it will fall over if a normal size adult sits on the same side as another adult) Cons - -They don't grow their own apples, they resell boa vista apples and have very little selection to choose from -They don't bake their own apple bakery items. All are cold and seem to be from Boa Vista as well - why not just stop there directly -Apple slushi just juice basically, not an actually slushi or frozen when I purchased -Craft vendors are basically the same as everywhere else, nothing special -The train ride is short, just a circle basically around a small pond. The pond looks a little nasty and like they have added blue dye into it. Overall just a lame kind of vibe here. Don't recommend unless you have a kid that loves trains. Then I'd just recommend a quick train ride and then back to the car to the next stop. read more

Do stop here if you want to experience a little children's train ride and shop the vendor booths. The train ride cost $3.50, you can loop around a pond. The train goes super slow. I didn't ride it, I only saw it in motion. So I don't know how many turns around the pond the $3.50 gives u. They also have a lot of vendors in outdoor booths. The wares range from shoe inserts, infomercial type wares, hand knitted items, homemade jelly/ jams, jewelry, metal artwork, home made lotions/soaps, and hot snack type food. Near the train ride they have vendors selling toys, face painting, and hand crafted wooden guns that shoot rubber bands. The bonus here were the restrooms, they had real flush toilets and were surprisingly clean for the most part. If ur a shopper, check them out. If you have kids, they may want to ride the train. Not sure why the bad reviews for this cute spot. It's not as large as some others, like Boa Vista; however, there are numerous craft booths throughout and the quality of the stands here is really nice. I can't speak to the food because we didn't try anything, but we definitely enjoyed walking around this farm. There is plenty of parking and the place is a bit more out of the way so much less busy than the pain strip. I definitely plan to make this a stop for my annual apple hill trip! read more

*RA I'm pretty sure we never bought anything apple related here. But we have brought small children obsessed with trains here. :) There also used to be a guy who would make bears and things out of wood with a chainsaw; it was fascinating to watch. Fun Romp in Apple Hill Hood During Autumnal Celebrations SITREP Apples Pies and Pumpkin Patches are what I think about when I come here! Usually during September and October is when I make the trip too. In 20 years, come to think of it, I've never been to this area other than in September and October. So for me, it is what it is, and that's an enjoyable seasonable diversion from Sacramento. SETUP Produce and Fruits and Children and Fun Activities and TRAINS! I love choo-choos and this is a fun activity to do here. Obviously the kids have a lot doing the rides, both on the trains and on the horse. FOOD & BEVERAGES There are a considerable number of food vendors. Some are quite pricey, especially for the hot sandwiches. But the nice thing about a place like this is that you can picnic it if you want and cut costs down low on a large group. However, there are all sorts of fixens and drinks available to get should you need them. COSTS I can't say that there are really any good "deals" that you can't find at the grocery stores down deeper in the Sacramento Valley - unless you actually plan on buying a bushels worth of apples or a pick-up truck's worth of Pumpkins (and I'm sure then an arrangement via "economies of scale" will be reached) - but I think it is all part of the rustic fun experience of being closer to where the produce you obtained was created. THE LOWDOWN Truly an enjoyable seasonable adventure, and one that I will continue probably every year. read more

Loved this place! Small but if you hate crowds, this is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful fall view with a delicious apple strudel. They also have a small but original craft fair. I found some Christmas gifts there. And... prizes are better at El Dorado Orchards than High Hill. Also, there's a small train ride for the little ones for only $3.50. Go there first and early! We stopped here for one reason, and one reason alone: the train. My nephews are obsessed with trains, so like a good auntie, I took them here. One of them even got a train painted on his face in preparation for his adventure. It may not seem exciting to adults to go around a pond on a train, but the boys were thrilled. There's a nice picnic area, too, where you can watch said train and pond, and the geese that call it home. The vendors are pretty typical for the area, with a few unique places. All in all, I'd only make an effort to stop here if I had a train-obsessed kid in the backseat. read more

This was just one of a few stops on our Apple Hill crawl in mid-October, with an emphasis on the crawl because the traffic sometimes gets surprisingly intense! This place is basically vendors on vendors on vendors. Come here if you're looking for hot chocolate powder, some food and baked goods, candles, signs, memo boards, etc. but don't come if you're looking for fresh fruit or pumpkins. There was a tiny corner of fresh fruit in boxes, but it was a meager selection compared to some of the other farms down the road. Overall, the crowd seemed mostly composed of older folks, and there was plenty of parking mid-morning on an October Saturday. As far as things kids would enjoy, they do have a train ride ($3.50 per person) with a decent sized track that curves around a pitiful lake; of course, we are in a drought. They also had face painting, yo-yo balloons, and rubber band guns. But that's all for the kids, folks, so I wouldn't recommend this as your prime stop for the day! One star because we called this place and asked if they are open, to which they replied, "yes". We drove there but the place was a ghost town. The buildings to the righ of the train ride entrance were boarded up and there wasn't a single person around. No cars. No customers. No staff. Nada. No one. Not even a zombie, which is exactly what I would have expected after seeing the desolate parking lot! No joke, take a look at the photo I uploaded. The third star is for the lady at the pistachio stand. Loved her. Otherwise it's pretty lame. The train has a creepy santa with a severed leg on the front and it goes around a pond.. weeeee.. They had turkey something there... I wasn't interested. Only interesting thing was the wonderful nut lady lol. We tried a few different kinds though i'm not sure what we ended up buying. She had pistachios with wasabi and with jalapeno somethings. She said "For this one you need to suck on the whole thing for a minute and then get the nut out to get the full flavor" and then clasped her mouth hahahahahaha!!! Hilarious. read more

this place should not even be on the map with the other great farms! i have been here a couple of times and both times no apples and just a dozen or so art and craft booths. they do have a kids train that goes around a pond but that is as exciting as it gets. they have food here and list smoked fresh turkey and smoked applewood cherry tri tip but where are they making this? i don't see any smokers or any bbq and only this small shack selling the food. how fresh is it really? i PASS! avoid this place and spend more time at some of the other really great places on the apple hill map. read more

Ugh. We wasted our lunch at this place with their "famous turkey and tri tip." Famous? Really? It cold and thrown on a hotdog bun, all for the wonderful price of $9.50. Rip off! Good news is they have a train, but it's not that amazing. I don't even think I saw any Apple products, now that I think of it. Anyway, just skip this place and thank me later. read more

Oh here's the quick rundown for this spot: CONS: 1. limited selection of apples and baked goods 2. they do have a food stand, but more of a snack shop than a restaurant PROS: 1. Best horse ride around (Abel's track is WAY too small/short). Nice ride and the girls are very friendly and great with kids. 2. The train ride is great here too around a lake filled with geese & duck. Nice long ride and I think it's like $3. Very relaxing and if you have young toddlers they're more interested in the ride. But what can I say my 2 girls are easily entertained. =) But I don't go here for lunch, apples or pie. But we did pick up some Fuji's last time since the other orchards didn't have any. read more

This place isn't very big, and normally their vendors aren't the greatest variety, however this trip was lucky. We purchased some really delicious spicy bbq sauce and the lady who started the business was just so friendly and sweet. There was also a jewelry stand with some kick ass rings. Oh wallet, why did you have to be empty this trip!?! Smoked tri tip sandwiches were tasty, meat was tender and had good flavor, albeit a little on the thin side for what we paid. My kids love riding the train. It is simple but they love it. Not usually as busy as some of the other places.

I was looking for some apple tasting, apple cider and some pie. There were NO apples to be found and the doors to the barn were closed. They had pies but they only took cash so I was out of luck on that one. There was an artisan faire and they had the same type of vendors that were at High Hill Ranch. They had a train that you could ride but the line was too long. I won't be returning. read more

They do have a train ride for kids that they can enjoy. An extra cost might apply. This "orchard" mainly has tents with vendors selling their good. No apples or other fruits for sale that I saw. DON'T RIDE THE TRAIN!!! We stopped her yesterday during our Apple Hill experience and I went on the train with my two children while my husband and friends stayed behind. We made it part way through the track and then the ride became a bit rough and then the train car we were in fell completely over sideways, off the track and part way down the side surrounded by berry bushes. Do you know how awesome it is to be on a train ride and then to get jolted backwards with babies and kids screaming? Yes, please sense the sarcasm. I luckily was the one falling backwards so I could help hold up my children. I felt horrible for one of the other dads in the train with me as he was trying to hold on to his 1 1/2 year old!! The best part was (again, please read this with sarcasm) that the workers were all about trying to fix the train while I was still trying to get my kids and myself out. NO one who worked there asked how we were, checked on us - nothing! I had to go and ask myself to get our money back. I had minor cuts and a bruise on my calf and they never checked on us or the poor children who were very shaken up and crying. So then what did they do? Oh, try to fix the train as much as they could and then started running it again!!! The reason they could do this was because the train derailed behind a bunch of bushes and trees so no one saw it happen!!! Unbelievable!! read more
