Believe it or not there is more to Apple Hills than just High Hills. This is one of the orchards in Apple Hills and one of my favorites. It's not as big as High Hills but it's also not as busy. There's plenty of parking and it's not a far walk to the orchard. Right in front actually. There are a good amount of vendors selling cute crafts so it's a great way to support local as well. They are Dog Friendly so I brought my dog along. There was also plenty of other dogs as well. They have bathrooms not just the portable potty's which is a huge plus. The highlight for the kids is the train that they have. They sell food here. There are 3 vendors. One sells the apple slushies and apple floats which are a must get! There a pie shack that sells pies, cookies and such. Then another vendor that sells tamales and nachos. If you come after thanksgiving they have a huge Christmas tree farm as well. It's so huge that it doesn't seem to get crowded. We were able to take our family Christmas photos here without needed to make a reservation likes some of the other Christmas tree farms in the area

Great family owned business, which is the same family that operates the ultra popular Boa Vista Orchards. However, the crowd is far smaller than the huge crowds at Boa Vista and that's not a bad thing. They have multiple craft booths, same great baked goods and treats, and a nice variety of apples.

Saw this cute and small orchard driving through Apple hill. There's craft vendors, vendors from other orchards, and a small train for kids! It's wasn't as busy as other orchards, might be because it's a little farther along a side road, but I liked it! It was a nice relaxing stop on our trip through Apple hill and got to try an apple cider shake (picture shows a small) which was bursting with whipped cream and yummy creamy, apple, and cinnamon flavor (exactly what you'd think of an apple cider milkshake).

Stopped by to check out the grounds and take a few pictures while visiting Apple Hill. There were a few vendors selling cute jewelry and I actually purchased some lavender lotion from a seller who made all her own bath products. The train was cute but seems like a short ride. I decided against it since we don't have kids. From the grounds you could see the pond with ducks and geese. It was sort of quiet on a weekday. I wouldn't say it's a destination of its own according but a cute stop when you're visiting Apple Hill. They're open Friday-Sunday only, so plan accordingly, Masks were required and mostly warn. They also have actual restrooms which was a plus.

*Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for the Fall Season *Open the day after Thanksgiving every Friday, Saturday & Sunday for U-Pick Christmas Trees *Call to double check dates and hours *Apple Hill Visitor's Guide: https://issuu.com/applehill/docs/cp2020_digital When first moving to Reno 5 years ago it didn't take long to learn about Reno's passion toward living and celebrating the seasons and holidays. It was fall some years ago and I was feeling the fall vibes, admiring the majestic scenery all around and found myself searching for things to do during the fall in Reno. Sure enough, Google knew exactly what I was looking for and steered me in the right direction. Along with many other suggestions, came Apple Hill (2 hr. scenic drive from Reno). Apple Hill, a collection of 50+ farms in Placerville, CA, was a place that sounded like Disneyland to me, having all the elements needed for a good time. I'm a sucker for scenery, road trips, farms, and apple goods- all of which I would be getting if I chose to embark on this trip. I took the leap, hoping to create some long lasting memories and traditions for me and my family. Being a mother of three, I always do as much planning as I can ahead of time to make trips run smoothly. I researched which farms were ideal for kids. El Dorado came up as one of the many, offering face paint, apple goods, a craft fair and a scenic train ride. El Dorado did not disappoint. Our first visit, my kids got face paint from a nice young lady and took a scenic train ride around two ponds lined with beautiful fall foliage. Although the train ride was not as long as the family hoped for it to be, we still ride it every season because it is just that special. The small, yet quaint farm is right next to two of the busiest farms- BOA Vista and High Hill Ranch- and is nestled away from the crowds. If you're looking for an ideal spot for having a picnic, a fun place to relax while still being able to shop, and some apple goods to enjoy, I'd highly recommend El Dorado Orchards. Notes: -Family Owned -Hot Dogs and Hot Sandwiches with chips $6-$11 -Train rides are currently $5 -El Dorado is a small farm but it packs a punch. It has a craft fair, hot lunch, apple goods, face paint and train ride. -The scenery alone can keep me coming back for more -pies, brownies, caramel apples, cookies, cider, apple cider milkshakes, & jams and butters available but no donuts. Visit BOA Vista Orchards a min away up the street for some delicious apple goods, including donuts and fritters. -plenty of tables and benches on grass with tall trees for shade. Ideal for picnics. -restrooms available -Plenty of parking

Nice small beautiful orchard. Although not as expansive as some of the other ones, this place does attract a crowd. They have some arts and crafts place, and their Apple Shakes are a must try. A five minute train ride here around their lake cost $5.00 and plenty of areas to take memorable pictures. It's a good place to fill in some time in your day but if your schedule is cramped, you can visit this place next time

Do stop here if you want to experience a little children's train ride and shop the vendor booths. The train ride cost $3.50, you can loop around a pond. The train goes super slow. I didn't ride it, I only saw it in motion. So I don't know how many turns around the pond the $3.50 gives u. They also have a lot of vendors in outdoor booths. The wares range from shoe inserts, infomercial type wares, hand knitted items, homemade jelly/ jams, jewelry, metal artwork, home made lotions/soaps, and hot snack type food. Near the train ride they have vendors selling toys, face painting, and hand crafted wooden guns that shoot rubber bands. The bonus here were the restrooms, they had real flush toilets and were surprisingly clean for the most part. If ur a shopper, check them out. If you have kids, they may want to ride the train. The train station is to the far left ( if ur looking at the shed with your back to the main road).

This is a medium sized location. The main attraction is the small train ride. They have vendors all around. One vendor was selling homemade fudge. The train rides are $3.50 per person. It goes around the track once. It's about a 5 minute ride.

El Dorado Orchards is small but beautiful place to enjoy with the family. The venders are super nice and they sell their handmade stuff. The train ride is amazing for the kids. There is food available but very limited, Parking is available out on the open field. The BBQ place seems to be out of food to early.

Loved this place! Small but if you hate crowds, this is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful fall view with a delicious apple strudel. They also have a small but original craft fair. I found some Christmas gifts there. And... prizes are better at El Dorado Orchards than High Hill. Also, there's a small train ride for the little ones for only $3.50. Go there first and early! It opens at 9am. :)

Rubber band guns. Super unique and clever design!

It is a simpler, smaller, compact farmers market compared to Sacramento Downtown or Midtown. It had a nice variety of vendors. The Saturday I dropped by, they were selling produce, frozen fish, flowers, plants, nuts, baked goods, breads, kettle corn, artisan soap, honey, and jewelry. Some of the vendors were... Thao Ranch of Galt, CA: This small family run farm sells fresh produce. Some of the offerings were fresh dill, sweet snap peas, carrots, red onions, squash, leeks, beets, chard... some other items I can not remember off hand. The produce looked all so beautiful and were vibrantly colored. The carrots, beets, and onions still had their green tops on. Fresh. Plus they sold flowers. Beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers $12-15. Huge full gorgeous bouquets. Professional looking. Grateful Bread of Fair Oaks, CA: I was ecstatic to see their booth. I use to live near the bakery (an actual bakery where they made the goods right in the shop). I would drive or bike on over, my faves were the muesli bread and olive n feta cheese loaf. They have some of the best bread I have ever eaten... mmm. They were selling baguette (sourdough and French), cinnamon raisin bread, jalapeño n cheese bread, muesli bread, slider rolls, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, banana nut loaf, burger buns, ciabatta rolls, cookies (chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin) and a bunch more. These are all fresh made and not chuck full of preservatives like store shelf bread. I bought a bag of a dozen slider buns $5. Chick's Kettle Corn: Good stuff. Fresh made kettle corn straight from the kettle. He makes it earlier in the day and bags it. I bought a small bag $6. Nature's Nuts: The owner sources the nuts from Ripon and Modesto farms. I spoke to him for a bit. He is quite engaging and quite knowledgeable about nuts (nutritional value, storage, flavoring). No BSing. He sold walnuts, almonds, and pistachios in the shell sold unflavored or flavored. I bought a bag of 8 oz honey smoked almonds. Yum! I was able to sample. The walnuts were so fresh and had an excellent sweet earthy taste. Pat's Pastries: Home based business selling baked goods. Irish soda bread, whole grain bread, chive n cheese biscuits, zucchini pineapple bread, pumpkin ginger bread, gluten free pound cake and zucchini bread... were just some of her offerings. Malik Brothers: They sell various flavors of papadum, chips, rotis, and naan. Each come in a variety of flavors. Roti is a flatbread, made from stoneground whole wheat, originating from India. Ruby's Ranch: They are a farmstead selling all organic produce. Their booth sold a variety of lettuce. It looked all so fresh and vibrant. They said yes and there are still apples on the trees. Which was not really true, we left with 10 tiny apples, 3 of which were from another family that had given up. We walked all sections of the orchard, most apples were on the ground and rotting. I am disappointed that they told me apples were available. They should have said they were open for their small store but not apple picking. We were excited to go and after we discovered almost no apples on the tree I realized I didnt see people leaving with bags and bags of apples. Most were leaving empty handed. The owners are nice, I want to give them business, it seems like they are about to go out of business since things are run down and they only accept cash. I also like how they give kids a apple for their thumb. But please dont stay open for apple picking if there are no apples to pick. We walked around for probably an hour or more set on finding a tree that still had apples available.

This was on our list to visit so we ended up going here instead, and I'm so glad we did! The owners were very friendly and accommodating. They handed us a map of where to pick apples and where the different types are located, then they pretty much told us to go crazy with picking apples. There weren't many ripe apples at the time we visited, but we still had a wonderful time being there to experience apple picking. The place feels rustic and huge with many apple tree variations to choose from, however, most of the trees were still young so there weren't a lot of shade for adults to hide under. So make sure you wear sunscreen and hats for protection during the day.
