Made a pit stop in the 50 from south lake tahoe. I think they had an art fair/ farmers market on sunday! Super crowded, but in good energy. They had a variety of booths for crafts, a fudge store, apple barn (apple store), bbq, a winery( that sells spiked cider), mexican food and a pie restaraunt ( which sells fast food too). They have another part called boa vista but we went inside more. Parking is pretty cramped and on dirt road but well managed by traffic controllers, and free! So sad the apples can't be picked :( getting out has a little bit of traffic too. 10/10 recommend the pie! It's not too sweet/spiced with perf apple flavor and the right amount of buttery crust. They sell whole pies outside (barely any line) if you like them for like 20$. Single slices are 5.50. Theres plenty of seating(big wooden benches) and water/utensils in the restaraunt. Apple barn kinda looks like an open stall store and they have a variety of no sugar jams, pickled items and of course apples sold by the box/lb. They also sell gallon apple juice, and apple beer. The donuts are found at apple barn where they have 3 windows to buy them so it goes really fast. Mastercard/visa and cash are accepted. They cost around 1.60 each with fritters costing 5.5 for one. Tbh the donuts taste the same so I wouldn't really bother with buying multiple varieties. I loved the plain- it was fluffy, thick, buttery and slightly cinnamony. Hot cider cups are a little small ( typical styrofoam cup size). The caramel apples are right by the donuts and 5.5 each. The caramel is super buttery and the apple is softer than the typical hard crispy apples! The first bite is just amazing. However, they don't cut it for u ( but I was able to slice it with a plastic knife). I feel this is a great pit stop (we spent 30 min) or a day place to take your kids :) read more

It's a zoo, if you like endless crowds and frankly not very good apples this is the place to come. I understand that apples are harvested during a limited time of year, but the crowds are too much for me, I'd rather not go. There are multiple vendors selling the stuff, it's typical of many farmers markets that are really craft fares. If that is your thing, I suppose it can be nice, as being in the hills there temperature is lower than being in Sacramento. I'm having a really hard time rating it because it's everything I hate doing, but the crowds seem to be there year after year so they must be doing something right. read more

THEIR PIES. Oh my goodness. I have always heard of Apple Hill and I've seen pictures, but today I got to stop by with family and tried their Apple Pie a la mode, and I'll tell you this, it was so delicious that I didn't even have a chance to take a picture. I ate the entire thing and I'm extremely picky on my pies and any desserts in particular. Next time you're in the are, stop by for sure!!! You won't regret it. read more

Cold food , no microwave or way of heating food. The employee when asked if it could be microwaved said that lots of customers have a similar request. I just wonder why not put one in if customer satisfaction will go up and result in higher employee tips as well for performing a service worth tipping for other than bagging my food? read more

I honestly cannot give this place any kind of positive review for a variety of reasons. I would like to say, however, that the donuts were delicious, as are the pies. The place is very dirty, their apples look all diseased especially the Honeycrisp, it's overpriced and the clientele that you run into here is not going to be very friendly. You can't pick your own apples. I went into the kitchen area where they sell pies. No one is socially distancing here, and the kitchen staff were very dirty. Half of them weren't wearing gloves, 50% of them were wearing masks around their chin. About four or five employees actually had the mask appropriately on their face while the rest of them had no mask at all. This is not a place that you would want to go to pick apples, hang out or purchase food from. I highly caution people going to this place during this very contentious time. They clearly have no significant regard to CDC warnings. I did, however, notice they were plexiglass dividers at certain cashiers but not all. Caution. read more

I have been coming here for over 13 years, a beautiful place to visit with the family. Their pies are one of the reason why I'm always here, but lately their pies are no where as near what they used to be. Very disappointing since I'm always looking to winter time for a pie. read more

I would have to agree with Reggie. Love this place! If you're from the "city" or an "Erin" I recommend you stay home and away from this place. All workers are so kind, helpful and don't always wear their mask properly. But it's all an open area and they do stay six feet away. Fresh air and fresh apples. Their donuts are the best! OMG I HAD TO EDIT MY REVIEW! The DONUTS IM IN LOVE WITH THEY HAVE A ICE CREAM SANDWICH . I'm driving there tmw idc ... Best donuts ever!!! And Carmel apples ! When I was pregnant with my twins my baby dad would drive me there from sac to just get a dozen of sugar apple donuts and a Carmel apple ! I would have to wait to get home to put the apple in the fridge to get it cold I couldn't eat it warm only bad thing other then that my bd and I would pick bomb fresh apples from the trees even tho ur not allowed too ( we only took a few sorry ) but I love it they have a pond with fish were u can have the kids fish it's like 11 a fish or pound, they have a strip where they sale home made things like a mini auction with good stuff not used things. read more

If you are high risk for Covid complications, this is NOT the place for you. Too many people and zero mask enforcement. About a quarter of the people were not wearing masks. All it would take is for the cashier to say "I can't take your order until you put on a mask". When I mentioned that to the cashier she just blew me off. The fritters and donuts were sitting out in the air on trays behind the registers. Hello, we are in a airborn pandemic and a quarter of people in the building aren't wearing masks and your donuts are sitting out, in the open air. I come to apple hill every year mainly for the pie!!! Today I went to get a slice of pie and the lady wouldn't let me finish ordering... :/ I wanted a slice of apple pie with a scoop of ice cream and a hotdog. All I said is "can I get a slice of apple pie and-..." and she said "ok your total will be (I don't remember the total)" and plus the pie wasn't even that good :/ (if I at least got the scoop of ice cream I probably wouldn't be complaining right now lol) and another thing that bothered me was that most of the cooks were wearing their masks on their chin while handling food :( and the lady who took my order touched my card :/ I don't like complaining but when I drive a hour and a half just for some pie on my day off at least be nice and don't interrupt me :/ read more

Overcrowded and overpriced, this has gone from a beloved childhood memory to a total waste of time. We paid $15 for a sandwich and $20 for a small pie. Also a shame that they've crammed so many hokey vendors in there and you can't even pick your own apples! read more

I've come to Apple Hill many times and usually just go for the atmosphere. It's not known for having the best food; hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. are probably your safest bet. But who drives that far for a hotdog? This year I had the tri-tip sandwich (don't remember the name of the vendor but they were the only one I saw serving tri-tip).The meat was good and tender but the bbq sauce tasted too sweet and like a cheap bottle of whatever. Then we went to the store next to the fudge factory and bought handmade blackberry pies. The crust was flaky but dry, and the inside was hollow; there was almost nothing in there. Ended the day by buying two pies from High Hill Ranch, one pumpkin and one apple and they were both terrible. Almost not edible. The crust has zero flakiness and was dense and flour-y. The filling in both was flavorless. The apple pie had some weird mushy filling. All in all, it's not worth it to go to Apple Hill except for the scenery and the beer. read more

My friend, Morghestaan, from Kentucky was visiting and I decided to take her to my most favorite childhood place in the world, Apple Hill. Woohoo! She thought it was one of the most loveliest places in the world and I was beyond THRILLED to hear that from her. She had mentioned to me several times that the scenery at Apple Hill reminded her a lot of Kentucky's golden days, whatever that meant to her. I felt blossomed and rejuvenated strolling through memory lane and putting aside all my worries. From the mouth-watering fritters to the crispy doughnuts to the DELICIOUS hot-dogs to the exuberant fishing lessons to the wondrous horse-back riding, all of it had met my expectations and beyond. It was so nice to finally be back and enjoying all these flavorsome treats. Unfortunately however, for my friend, the tri-tip sandwich (she ate up like a horse, mind you!) at Highhill Ranch caused some diarrhea for her but it wasn't anything some good old fashioned Pepto Bismol couldn't fix! Oh dear. Anyway, I had a swell time as did she and it was so nice to visit this national treasure after so many decades! A 5/5 for the both of us and we will come back. read more
