I was in that area the other morning and was hungry for a "good" breakfast. I typed in "mangu" in the maps app and these guys came up. I had mangu con los 3 golpes. They fried my egg to order not like most of these places that have the eggs on a hot tray. The mangu was perfect and the cheese crispy not rubbery. But over the years, when the ownership changed, even the person at the cash register, I understand if they're tired, but that's no reason to look at someone with hatred. Its just bad service when you go pay. You dont pay the person that served you but someone inside that seems to manage the place as they dont trust the ladies working there. The food here is overall tasty. Somethings are a hit and miss. Their chicken is good. The rice and beans are good. Not a place to really sit down to eat in, although I have, I never felt comfortable. Recently I was hungry so I decided to really come inside and try this Mom and Pop place, because normally I get food to go, or I order over the phone. The ladies that work there treat everyone the same, meaning they don't seem very pleasant but I think thats due to them being serious about getting everyone's order, or fixing orders to go. That being said I decided to sit and try something else, oxtails. Boy was I wrong and never again. It had all this nasty fat, that I don't like on it. Only thing I enjoyed was the rice and beans. I left hungry and mad at myself. Literally walked out. The costumer service here really sucks. Second time I am in there and I don't get acknowledged in any way but the moment a man goes in they greet them and tell them they will be right there. I was patiently waiting as I noticed both ladies in the front a bit busy, one with an order she was preparing and another that was cleaning the salad area. They both looked at me several times but never acknowledged, ok. A few man come in and they all get greeted, okay. I'm still patient. Finally, the two ladies walked towards the counter and one said aloud hmmm who is next? The other lady (one cleaning the salad) even before I was able to say something said that some guy that came after me was next and they proceeded to take his order. At that moment I walked out as it seems this business doesn't need my money. The owner here really needs to evaluate the costumer service their employees deliver. I got hungry on my way back home so I hopped off the train one stop before my regular stop to find a bite to eat. I walked into El Economico on a whim. There was seating at the counter in the front of the restaurant and a few stray tables scatter in the back and the upstairs mezzanine. The ambiance was nothing to write home about but it was comfortable and down to earth. The woman sitting behind the register was sucking on a lollipop, chatting and laughing. Plates of food were carried to the table with cafeteria trays. The TV was flipped to Telemundo and the movie "Justo de la Mira" was playing (that would be "Vantage Point"). Not an ounce of doubt about why this place exists: to feed hungry people. I slid onto a stool at the counter and ordered a pernil sandwich. The pernil was plentifully scoped onto a hero, doused with chopped garlic, heated in a press and served in a matter of minutes. The world around me stopped for a second after my first bite. I was no longer wondering how the sandwich was prepared so fast. Was the pork just swimming in its own juices for a few hours waiting to be served? Did the chopped garlic get spooned from a Costco sized jar? Who cares. The sandwich was amazing. I didn't even care that I was sitting next to a small, bearded homeless guy who was painting his fingernails with lip gloss (though it helped that he didn't smell and had a friendly smile). He could have been painting MY fingernails for crying out loud. I would have continued savoring every bite. The pernil melted in my mouth, as it should, while the few pieces of crispy chicharon hiding in the sandwich made for a pleasant surprise. It was simply delicious. As I settled back down from my pork induced high, I started watching the work behind the counter. Oxtail stew was scoped onto plates by the ladleful, huge avocados were being sliced up for salads, fried pork chops appeared from the back kitchen, and batch after batch of plantains were being pulled out of the deep fryer. EL Economico Spanish - American Restaurant is very good and very friendly. I went to Bronx today to meet a client ( a business appt ). After I finished with my client, I got kind of hungry so I stopped at the very first food place I could notice on Broadway. And...what a pleasant surprise! The beef I ordered was so juicy and the brown rice was just cooked perfect. The whole thing was delicious. I also found out on my way out that they have Karaoke nights there every Friday and Saturday night...till 4am ! WoW ! They also have a Free WiFi and a FULL open bar there which for a small restaurant in that area is a surprise. They are open 7 days a week and have flat screen TVs there. So if you're a sports bar person, you will definitely fit in there. Very good experience! I will stop in again the next time I'm in Kingsbridge NY area. read more

Me and my family were out looking for a good place to eat that had a "A" health department rating. My mother recommended this place. It's small, plays loud Latin music, has okay food and AMAZING low prices. The food was a little bland compared to other places I've eaten with similar food. I do have to say that their chicken pasteles were the WORST I've have ever SEEN or eaten. They were mushy and looked like baby vomit and they tasted pretty damn close to baby vomit or at least how I would imagine baby vomit to taste since I've never tasted it... or wait maybe it's a memory I have when I was a baby and had vomited... not sure. But stay away from their Pasteles. My sisters weren't thrilled with the pork ones either. My sister ordered carne guisada (Beef stew over white rice) and they completely left out the potatoes. Yellow rice and pinto beans were good but I would have preferred black beans. The oxtail was delicious, but the chicken and the beef were a bit dry. The sweet plantains were amazing! Very racist establishment, their preference of service is made evident, very unprofessional and their food is hit or miss. I only go to order the oxtails stew in which the neighborhood doesn't serve. I won't allow ignorance to hinder me from getting an dinner I deserve especially when I am paying the same green money as their peers. When you ask to speak to the manger, he all of a sudden doesn't speak English and has no interest to listen to your concerns. I even ordered via phone for delivery but it took one time nearly 2 hours for it to arrive and when it did, it was cold and I had to take it back to the restaurant. I wash my hands, I wanna just say.
