We were provided the name for this location from a small shop owner of delicious tacos. They have really two meats, sirloin and chorizo. We had a various tacos, both flour and corn and with and without cheese (gringo style). Salsas were delicious. The green avocado had a good kick to it. You knew you were eating hot salsa, and good hiccups. They have a taco loco, which is similar to a burrito with no beans. All three meats and topped with a slice of bacon. I'm not sure what the third meat was, maybe pork chop. Service was great. Our waitress was kind and very attentive. Even with the humidity today, there was still a good breeze coming through. Overall, this will be a place we come to again in December when we return to the region.
Best tacos in Playa Del Carmen is an understatement. The value and quality cannot be beat. I look forward to this spot every time I visit the area. My favorite is their sirloin tacos. Carved fresh for each order, these are authentic and the salsa is the icing on the cake. This place is always packed with a mix of locals and tourists. The service is great and you never have to wait for a table. Do not skip this restaurant if you are in the area. Best prices and easily beats the trendy places charging 3 times the amount.
Some of the best tacos I have ever had in my life! I got 5 tacos, a drink, and flan for dessert, and it came out to $23 USD (I added for the tip). I will probably go back before I leave. My waiter was awesome and helped me out with the menu. I can't recommend this place enough if you are in Playa del Carmen!
First time trying this chain restaurant and I ordered the alambres. It's skirt steak with cheese. We also got chicken nachos for sharing. For drinks, I opted for the mango shake. My husband ordered the pork & beef tacos and when he wanted more, he ordered more and it was delivered almost immediately. Thats how fast the service was. I enjoyed my meal and the service was good. It just doesn't look fancy here.
It's been almost a year since my trip to Mexico, and I still dream of El Fogon food. We dined and got takeout-out here a bigger chunch of our stay in Play Del Carmen. Tacos are exceptional and super affordable. Tacos al Pastor are by far my favorite. Other dishes we had here did not disappoint either. The fresh juices are so refreshing in that hot weather!

I've been to Cancun twice. I've been to El Fogon 4 times. If I lived there I would be over 600lbs. This place is authentic and DELICIOUS!!!! The cheese stretches and melts in your mouth. The flavors pop and will have you savoring for more. I could not say enough about the food. I was willing to pay the $25 cab ride from our resort to eat there again! The service is fast and the team is nice. You do not need to know Spanish however so knowledge would be helpful. The place is always moving. There's always a line and the 10 minute wait is worth it!! It's loud and fun!!! Thank me later!!!
This place is truly a gem. Stopped in for tacos and guacamole. Had the chorizo and the pastor tacos. Always busy and always quality food. A must try when your in town
This is the spot that a local said was the best place where all the locals eat. It was very good food but I was also told later by another local that this is where the locals send the foreigners. ;-) The fresh juices were great, the meat was very good. Overall a very satisfactory meal.

Ordenamos el queso fundido como pueden ver, pero lamentablemente tenía mucho gordo y no se pudo comer tanto. Sobre todo la comida está económica. Está deliciosa. Lo único que sí nos decepcionó fue que las bebidas alcohólicas estaba súper llenas de agua si sabor. _______ The food was over all good. It was inexpensive. Our favorite was the special skirt steak- we also got steak tacos, and al pastor tacos. My favorite and highly would recommend would be the steak tacos. Our disappointment was very much the alcoholic beverages as they were pretty bland, watered down, and overall essentially not what we expected.
Some people book a trip to Playa for the beaches, the nightlife, and/or the historical Mayan ruins. My boyfriend booked our trip to Playa pretty much for one reason: tacos at El Fogón. So I spent the better part of 2 months listening to him describe these in a way that would make a Yelp Elite blush. Fast forward to last week and we finally found ourselves grabbing a table there for lunch. This is a super popular spot with locals and tourists, but somehow we managed to arrive at a magical time when there wasn't a line. We started with a couple of beers and a half order of guacamole while awaiting the taco magic. Soon, our al pastor tacos arrived (along with a chicken quesadilla). It was all soooo good. But those tacos...ohhhh those tacos. The way they cook the meat is something I've never seen at a Mexican restaurant before. Similar to the Greek method of cooking lamb for gyros, this place stacks pounds and pounds of thinly sliced meat onto a metal cone, which is then placed in front of a fire and constantly rotated while the "meat master" (as I like to call him) expertly slices off tiny slices which magically land onto your taco. Oh, and did I mention the large chunk of pineapple placed atop this cone-of-pork? So the pineapple juice is basically sweating down onto the meat for an outta this world al pastor experience. Dang, this was over a week ago and I'm already regretting not being there right now. The quesadilla was great, too, but I don't think anything could top those tacos. Being as we're not in Playa very often, a return trip was pretty much required. For trip #2, we went for dinner. There was a short line which got longer after we were seated, so again we felt pretty lucky. This time we skipped the quesadilla and went right for the main course: two plates of tacos. One with the already-describe al pastor tacos, and the other with the similarly-prepared carne asada tacos. All pretty much amazing as expected. When in Playa, be sure to hit up El Fogón at least once, twice, or three times. This particular location is right across the street from the Mega supermarket, so it's a convenient stop for a meal before heading to buy some groceries and supplies.
We went to both locations during our trip in Playa, and both did not disappoint. I love their grilled cactus they serve you before the order arrives.

Food: I'll never be able to explain just how amazing this food was. From the dips at the table to the amazing mango margarita to every taco and quesadilla; it was prepared masterfully. I'm sure to the incredible chefs here it's just another day in the kitchen but it made our trip memorable. Nothing was greasy or poorly executed. The quesadillas were incredible; the cheese they use has the perfect stretch to it and it tasted so good. The Al pastor, which I normally stay away from in America, was especially special; beautiful char and flavor to it, as well as the chorizo! Service: Impeccable; happy and smiling faces all around. We were sitting around sweating so you can imagine being the servers who never stopped moving. But there was a joy to their service and I loved that they recommended food that was incredible. Ambiance: When you're sitting amongst locals, the experience is that much better. It was awesome to see the place so busy (we ate here twice in three days). Even the warm tequila shots were nothing to complain about. Grateful for the amazing company that was with me both times. You will love this place, I can guarantee it. So if you're nearby for a vacation, skip that resort food and dine here with the people of the city. read more
Back again two years later (From our last trip to Mexico). Hadn't changed at all which in this case is an excellent compliment! Same great staff who deliver exceptional service. In fact, we were greater and taken care of by the same people. The food! Delicious. Our favorite place to visit when we arrive in the Riviera Maya area. Our favorite is the taco loco and chorizo queso. We always order extra food to take back to our hotel. Will we be back! Absolutely yes! read more

After visiting all three El Fogón locations in Playa del Carmen, I can confidently say they're all fantastic. The service is quick, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and the food is consistently delicious. Before your meal even arrives, you're served grilled cactus along with a plate of fresh radishes, cucumber, and lime wedges, plus a selection of toppings including tomatoes, onions, and both a green and red salsa. The red salsa was my favourite, it paired perfectly with the tacos and had just the right amount of heat and flavour. The standout for me was the al pastor taco. The meat was incredibly flavourful with crispy edges, a smoky char, and the perfect balance of savoury spice and sweet pineapple. It was easily one of the best al pastor tacos I had in Playa del Carmen. I also tried the sirloin taco and the chicken breast plate, both of which were excellent. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the quality was impressive, especially for the price. El Fogón absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're looking for authentic, delicious tacos and grilled meats that won't break the bank, this is a must visit. I loved it so much that I ended up eating at all three locations and every visit was just as good as the last. read more

There's are so frequently regarded as among the best tacos in Playa for a reason. They're excellent. The pastor and asada are spinning right inside the restaurant. Each taco is freshly sliced and succulent. There isn't a bad order on the menu. The only weak point on the menu I found are the fruit drinks. Stick to the tacos, they'll knock out your taste buds and are among the best tacos I've had. read more
Yoo! We were recommended this little spot in Mexico after a day of cave hiking. It was pretty sick. We sat outside upstairs with a sweet view of the streets. The vibes here are sick. The staff was super friendly and really helpful. Of course we ordered a marg. It was too notch and much needed I ordered the el pastor(steak) I think. I asked for the steak. It was dope watching him carve them right in front of me. The meat was well seasoned and super tasty. Even with two drinks and two meals our bill was super cheap. The food in Playa Del Carmen is so good if you know where to go. If you're looking for a traditional Mexican experience & food look no further. This spot is large & it gets packed with a combination of locals & visitors. I feel as if the majority is locals. They have a lot of entrees you can from. We ordered a pastor dish with cheese, grilled onions & bell peppers- it was really good. My wife ordered the beef arrachera it was kinda like carne asada. Anyway I really liked them both although next time I'd probably just stick with the tacos. They are really tasty & inexpensive. Overall we were both really happy & would easily come back because it's really tasty & it saves you $$$. The place does play really loud Mexican music & can be a bit hot inside on hotter day's. Needed a change of scenery and food so we left Cozumel for the day. So many more food options and so much better than Cozumel. This place popped up on Yelp so we gave it a shot. Nothing glitzy or flashy and that's what I was after. Excellent food. If I'm ever back I'll absolutely eat here again. read more
Delicious authentic tacos served here along with tasty drinks. If you want to eat local and have some delicious food and drinks you should definitely check out El fogon. Was a 10 minute walk from our hotel while visiting playa del Carmen and definitely worth the short trek. The service was friendly and they spoke a little English so communication was no problem. The ambiance is very laid back and local feel with the majority of the customers being from Mexico. Definitely a 5 star joint and a highly recommended mark from me. Muchas gracias! read more
Life changing fajitas. Fresh & so much flavor. Nice portions. Fast service, even with it being busy. I waited about 10/15 mins for a table. My food didn't take long at all. It's loud with good music, it does get a bit smokey. Very reasonable prices. Definitely recommended. read more

This place was SLAMMED when we walked up so we knew it had to be good. The line out front got decently long, but we only waited maybe 10-15 minutes which was incredible. Staff was extremely kind, & the man playing live music was a lot of fun. Very personable and came around talking to every table (yes, for tips, but he made great conversation too) We ordered "Tacos for 4" ($700 pesos, $38 USD) even though there were 3 of us but that did not stop them from bringing out four of everything (soup, chip servings, guacamole) still. We thought this was an awesome touch. In addition to the normal table offering of 3 different fresh salsas, a bowl full of limes, and a plate of delicious cactus!! They also kept all 4 different meats & queso hot on a charcoal grill, which was one of the coolest sharing experiences I've ever had. A damn, it was GOOD. Plus, the actual mountain of tortillas it was served with were so perfectly warmed I almost couldn't stop eating!! With 3 GIANT and *to die for* Sangria & Daiquiris at $147 pesos each (each of us got buzzed off of just one) and the tacos for 4, we ended up taking home a decent chunk of leftovers for just $1,140 pesos or $63 USD. read more

This was by far one my favorite meals in Playa. We wandered in here thinking we were meeting up with our group. Little did we realize this was one of several El Fogón locations...Oops. Since we were already down a few drinks we said it is what it is and sat down to eat! El Fogón is one busy joint. It was bustling with hungry people and I was glad we made it when we did. We all ordered fishbowl margarita which I think is standard fare in Mexico. It was as good as a drink choice as they come. What got me though was the food! Wife had a veggie platter that had about anything a vegetarian could want on it. I got a meat platter with skirt steak that was tender as can be. Just so scrumptious and we stuffed our faces literally! I'd come back here in a heartbeat. El Fogón was all that and we all left pleased and a lil' more inebriated than when we showed up! read more
Love this little taqueria! Long line of people waiting to get it, but it moves fast. It's wide open so as you wait in line, you can watch the cooks create some amazing food! I had La Gringa Pastor. It was pork, cheese, lettuce, and onion between two flour tortillas. Truly amazing! They make guacamole tgat is amazing. Pico that is hotter than heck as well as other sauces. The food is super inexpensive and so good. Drinks are inexpensive too. We got 20 tacos, 1 coke, 3 margaritas, ice cream, chips and guacamole, 9 beers, and 14 shots of Don Julio for $130! Not bad if you ask me! The pineapple ice cream is a must! So freaking delicious and the most amazing texture! read more

Ohhhhhhhhhhh sooooo GOOD and inexpensive- it had to have been good if the line was wrapped around the building. The prices were reasonable and very fair! This was only 1 of 2 establishments that didn't change their prices, once you received your ticket. All of the food was super delicious and customer service was very attentive and friendly. read more

This place was recommended to me from a good friend, so we decided to try it while we were in Playa Del Carmen. It's a very casual place, and always extremely crowded so prepare to stand in line. The staff was very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, all fresh grilled. They even had a little entertainment for us, but not sure that's a standard thing. Try this place if you're ever there and I promise she won't be disappointed. read more
