Got a 20 dollar "super" burrito. It was the size of a regular burrito, nothing super about it, it was also incredibly bland and over priced. I will definitely not be returning

"Super" compared to "kids" burrito.. they're the same size..

Got some food here for to go, first red flag was the undercooked and stale tasting chips. Got home and opened flautas which were 2 super skimpy soggy and flattened tiny flautas. Super burrito- nothing super about it! Was all rice and beans no guacamole and a pinch of sour cream and meat. This place is horrible! $50 and we tipped on to go food. Shame on this place for serving food at this price that is so skimpy. I understand it's expensive to run a restaurant right now. But don't cheat your customers. Ther super burrito is literally the same size as a kid's burrito. Used to be good here.. I will not be returning to this establishment. Check out there other recent reviews are being shady with prices and also portions are way off for what they are charging. $50 later and still hungry..

El Gallo Burritos for grad party!

Delicious burritos. Huge delicious burritos. Did I mention delicious? Sis-in-law ordered like 24 burritos (and they were all cut in half & wrapped up nicely) for her son's graduation party. They were a hit. And they heat up nicely in the oven the next day.

    Chimichanga- A little disappointed

To be honest, I am more familiar with Cuban and Puerto Rican food being a transplant from the east coast. Mexican taqueria was a rarity then. That was over 40 years ago and I have been back to CA since, where taquerias are a dime a dozen. My exposure to Mexican was however not only minimal but few and far between. For crying out loud, I still have the audacity to consider myself an adventurous foodie. Absolutely no excuses for this except kick my butt! I hit the jackpot with El Gallo Petaluma, an unobtrusive, modest gem in my 'hood. Just when I thought it was safe to chat with Ursula, the very hospitable, cordial and helpful lady boss, CA has decided to close all indoor dining again. Bummer! I remembered from pre-Covid days, the dining room and the bathroom were immaculately clean. With Covid, social distancing was strictly adhered to, mask wearing was mandatory and they paid close attention to sanitization to keep the taqueira safe. Regardless whether the interior was hole in the wall or swanky, low or high end, I appreciate good food for what they are. Ursula's hubby put his heart and soul into his job and I seldom had a bad meal except for occasional misses. I've always loved to support a local enduring and endearing mom and pop biz opened 15 years ago. I still like, for the most part, to keep my Mexican grub simple, spicy and authentic seldom venturing beyond the classic tacos, burritos, chili verdes, chili rellenos, enchiladas etc. I'm now ready to move forward. If you love chili peppers as much as wifey does, you're gonna love Camarones a la Diablo ($14). The dish featured 7 jumbo prawns doused in a red chili pepper sauce that was spicy, super flavorful and very addicting. Hey, what about me who is now somewhat of a spice wimp? Tough! Like I said, good food is good food as long as it doesn't burn my gut out! Lol (4/5) I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm a newbie to the iconic Salvadoran pupusas ($8) in all their ooey gooey goodness. Ursula hails from Guatemala, which is a stone throw away from El Salvador. Now I'm always up to trying a good pupusa but their choices here were limited to pork or beef. The pork version was perfectly fried and paired nicely with refried beans, rice and cheese. Finally nail the pupusas with their red and green salsas. I'm sure there is wider selections elsewhere that is more exotic but might be trashier, fattier high carb crap! (4/5) It took me a while to learn the difference between a burrito, an enchilada and a chimichanga ($12). Never knew the difference until recently. That was coz I never had chimichanga before! I probably won't order this again. Firstly, the taste paled compared to the others. A chimichanga is a deep fried burrito plus the chicken strips were too dry for my taste. Secondly, watch out for the calories and fat. Factor in the guacamole and sour cream; you can get your arteries clogged in a hurry! This is not to say burritos and enchiladas are blameless! Jury is still out on the chili rellano! (2.5/5) All told, El Gallo is my go to taqueria for no fuss no muss taqueria style Mexican food prepared honestly and affectionally by mom and pop that satisfied my cravings for simple, inexpensive Mexican food.

    Empty plate obviously was delicious

Very authentic and fresh. We had a late lunch of the taco/enchilada plate. Very nice owner. Basic taqueria decor.

A Great Lunch Stop with Amazing Tacos and Fresh Flavors!…read more We stopped at Quiote in downtown Petaluma for a quick lunch while en route to Oregon. The restaurant has decent seating inside, and the staff are incredibly friendly. A really nice touch, especially for hot summer days, is that each table gets complimentary diced chilled watermelons to start. The food was fantastic from start to finish: * Tortilla Chips & Salsa: We ordered their special house-made tortilla chips, which came with green and spicy salsa dips. They were fresh, crispy, and highly flavorful. Definitely highly recommended! * Carne Asada Tacos: This was my absolute favorite taco. The steak was one of the best I've had, and the flavors were awesome. * Grilled Cod Fish Tacos: Our second favorite was the fresh grilled cod fish tacos, which were absolutely fantastic. * Chicken and Shrimp Tacos: We also ordered the chicken and special shrimp tacos, which my wife and kids loved. * Rice and Beans: My kiddos got a side of rice and beans, and they were very flavorful. * Flan: For dessert, we ordered the flan. It came topped with a unique whipped cream infused with orange flavor, which was excellent. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through or in the area!

Is this the Best Mexican restaurant in Sonoma County?…read more Don't let the simple, unfussy interior fool you -- Quiote is quietly doing some of the most exciting Mexican cooking in the Bay Area. This family-run Jalisco-style spot in downtown Petaluma sources quality ingredients (heirloom maize, Rancho Gordo beans, fresh local seafood), and it shows in every bite. And, of course, the staff is warm, personable, and genuinely happy to walk you through the menu -- take them up on it. Guac & Salsa -- I've had a lot of chips. These might be the best I've ever had. The raspadas are the move here: thin, crispy, shatteringly light corn chips with a texture unlike anything you'd expect. Not your standard tortilla chip -- closer to something airier and more delicate. The guac and salsa alongside are equally solid. Molotes -- Traditional Mexican street snack: golden, torpedo-shaped corn masa dough fried crisp on the outside, packed with savory filling (think potato, chorizo, cheese), and served with salsa and crema. The exterior crunch giving way to the warm filling is deeply satisfying. Highly recommended. Tacos ($7.50 each) -- Yes, $7.50. And yes, worth it. The 100% maiz handmade tortillas are the foundation everything is built on, and they're exceptional. I worked through a lot of the menu and didn't find a miss -- al pastor, barbacoa, cochinita pibil, carne asada, fish -- all executed with care. If you're not sure where to start, just ask. The staff knows the menu cold and will point you right. Quiote isn't trying to be flashy. It's trying to be correct -- and it nails it. One of the best Mexican meals I've had, full stop.

I had honestly forgotten why I stopped coming, but after this visit, I was quickly reminded. The service was actually very good. The staff was attentive, friendly, and checked on us throughout our meal, so I have no complaints there. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. The rice was cold, the beans were also cold and lacked flavor, and the tortillas weren't heated properly--they were stiff and tasted undercooked, which made the tacos even worse. I ordered the tacos de asada, and the meat was full of gristle. It was chopped so finely that it resembled ground beef rather than steak, and it had very little flavor. The chips were also rancid, which was another major letdown. I had ordered a steak burrito to go, but after tasting the food, I canceled it immediately. Looking over the bill, I noticed it would have cost about $20 for a "super" steak burrito, plus an additional upcharge just because it was steak. That pricing seemed excessive, especially considering the quality of the food we were served. Overall, while the service was great, the food was some of the worst Mexican food I've had in a long time. I quickly remembered why I hadn't been back in years, and unfortunately, this visit confirmed that I won't be returning. Don't recommend eating here.
