I was looking for another place that would best or be equal to my favorite Ricky's Tacos. The flavor just didn't hit me until I got to the end of the burrito. I ordered a shredded pork (or what everyone knows as Carnitas) burrito. The burrito wasn't that oily and salty which was a plus and the tortilla seemed homemade. Not dry but edible until the last bite. I would have to say it was pretty good but not as good as my favorite. The lady at the counter was nice as well as the dude that brought out my burrito. The ceiling is adorned with piñatas and the place clean and inviting. I think I'll try their menudo on the weekends to see what that tastes like or consider a sit down next time I'm in town. read more

Not much ambience here but the food completely makes up for that... I had the cheesy tacos and they were amazing, they were on special for around $14. I ate two of them took two home... Heated them up two days later and they were even better than they were the first time. The hubby had the smothered burrito and I know it's a good burrito when he doesn't have to add more salsa, and he didn't he liked it just as it was. They say it's the little hole in the wall locations that serve the best food and that is totally the case with El Gordito Feliz. Stopped there on a whim and it did not disappoint!! What a gem in Newberg! Came with friends who frequent this place and everything they recommended was delicious. I got the Gordito bowl with chicken, and my husband got the birriria tacos. Once you enter you go up to the counter to order and select your meat before seating yourself. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful. Interior was clean and bright which I appreciated. Portions of food were decent sized. My partner ordered the carnitas taco bow which came with a good amount of meat and veggies. I ordered assorted tacoa on house made tortillas. The tortillas are DELICIOUS. they're served warm and have a slight chew and are study enough to not fall apart or drop your taco toppings. My favorite meat was the birria. I had also tried the carne asada, carnitas and al pastor. Usually al pastor is my favorite but it felt dry tonight and lacked the bold flavor profile I prefer in al pastor. El Gordito is located nicely in downtown Newberg. Walking inside for the first time, there was a lot more seating than I expected, even has an inviting outdoor patio in the back. The staff were friendly and walked our food directly to our table which was nice. I got the carne asada fries which I was really impressed with the quality of both the fries and the carne asada.
