I love having such a great Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood. We're always greeted with a smile, and when those tortilla chips arrive at the table, the staff already know my husband wants the hot salsa and I need a mild. I'd be hard pressed to decide my favorite entree - the chicken fajitas have an amazing sauce; the taquitos have the perfect crunch; the enchiladas always hit the spot. The prices are great - dinner for two here is less than lunch for two at Panera. The restaurant has been negatively impacted by the construction on Tualatin Sherwood Road, so we try to hit them up once a week. read more

I went to order a meal today excited, I have been ordering food there for the past 10 years but there is a new lady working there now for the past month or two and she got mad at me in the past when their card machine didn't work yet still charged me and blamed me for it. I placed my confidence in them again today, and then she falsely accused me of placing an order earlier this week on Monday when I did not. This was when I just placed an order today went to pick up the order. it was embarrassing going through my phone records which showed no indications of such a thing or a voicemail from her that she said she left and I showed her my phone records as well while I was there. I got no sympathy and they simply hung up on my multiple times when I tried to figure out what was going on after the fact: I won't be coming back. I tried reaching out to them kindly again afterwards and asked for the manager and she said she was the manager and they hung up on me. I have never felt so unwelcomed before over a misunderstanding both times not my fault. I won't be coming back ever. Which is sad because they were my go to Mexican restaurant for years in Sherwood. I don't know where the hate came from but I will always love them and be wishing them the best. All I can say is that lady does not care about her customers at all. This location has become a mainstay for us - the chipotle chicken plate is consistently amazing. Good spice, great flavor, and plentiful enough for lunch tomorrow. One of my to-do' lists since moving into the area was to find a go-to a sit-down Mexican Restaurant and I believe my search is over. Mazatlan was within my target area and me and the kids decided to check it out. The reviews that patrons have left seemed promising so we wanted to experience the restaurant for ourselves. We were greeted by a nice, spanish-speaking lady and she brought us to a nice table towards the back corner of the restaurant. The area wasn't as busy and we had our nice little cozy private spot, The decor was really nice, colorful, lots of colorful tiles and colors adorned the walls with this fun-looking decor. We were given some nice, freshly made tortilla chips along with refried bean dip and a salsa on the side. It was a delight to have 2 different things to dip our chips into. The chips were an instant hit- it didn't last long until we finished the bowl when the lady came back and asked us if we wanted more and we said yes. She knew we were enjoying the chips and it was a nice-to-have before our entrees came out. For our drinks, we went with Horchatas all-around and I tell you, the Horchatas came in large, plastic coke-labeled glasses. Large Horchatas.- Wow!! When the lady came back with our menus, the kids were overwhelmed and excited to see many choices from the menu. What really impressed my son a lot was that he never saw steak + shrimp offered on the same plate (kind of like a surf and turf) which was a delight to see. It was a hard decision to make but he opted for the Carnitas plate when he saw the photo on the bottom corner of the menu. This also caught my eye as well and we both ordered the same. My daughters went for Chile Verde and Enchilladas respectively. We also had a side-order of the La Botana appetizer. Our eyes even lit-up wider when our plates came out- LOTS of food, I mean LOTS!! They were prepared in round, ceramic bowl/dishes and hot out of the oven. My son enjoyed how creamy the refried beans were and I enjoyed the carnitas meat- nice, tender but the bomb was the sauce that came with the meat- it was a lemon-salsa type of sauce that woke-up the carnitas. You have to absolutely dip the meat into this!! My daughters enjoyed both their enchiladas and Chile Verde- all tasty. We were served so much food that we didn't have any space for our appetizers. Obviously the highlight of the dinner has to be the left-overs that we get to bring home and continue to enjoy again for tomorrow's lunch. Friendly waitresses, very attentive and always asking if you need more water and checking in on you. Great customer service and they made us feel at home- we really enjoyed our dinner tonight and what a great first-time impression!! read more

This is my go-to Mexican restaurant. I have dined here at least 100 times and have never had close to a bad meal. The food is great especially the fajitas but do yourself a favor and ask for the house chile rellenos. Best I've ever had. But you have to ask for them. But more important than the great food is the wait staff. Especially the managers who are so friendly and attentive. They feel like friends and always help me with my broken Spanish. Actually, the service was excellent and the presentation of the food was beautiful. However, the sauce used on the fajitas and the side chili relleno absolutely destroyed our enjoyment of the evening. It tasted like spaghetti sauce; very close to being pure tomato sauce with perhaps a little barbecue sauce mixed in. It was so disappointing since the fajitas had been our favorite dish at the Mazatlán in King City. Definitely don't order it in Sherwood. I came in there today with my girlfriend and the grandkids. I have been here before and I know one of the grandkids loves the beans thanks for the chips and salsa. The people who work there are always really friendly and nice. Today I ordered the pork dish. The rice and beans are always really good there but my pork was kind of cold when I got it. The prices seem a little too high as well. I think I might go to the other Mexican restaurant further down hiway 99 closer to Tigard next time. If they had a bar this place would be really great!! Overall not a bad place but pretty basic Mexican food. Oh and the pork really had not flavor to it at all. Definitely not authentic Mexican food. Oh well, it's close to the grandkids home. read more

I hate to post this but the Chicken Fajitas Burrito that I bought had old chicken in it. The pieces of chicken were over microwave and hard. We go to this restaurant quite frequently, even driving 20 minutes from our home with other Mexican restaurants closer. After my last experience it's time to find a local option. Being from LA, and growing up on the boarder of East LA, I was spoiled by an abundance of ethnic food. Food I found that I missed almost as much as my friends. And so far here in Oregon, the Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese restaurants were mediocre at best. So I have to admit after seeing 3 stars, I had my doubt's. But unfortunately like most reviews on yelp, people concentrate on a single occasion of bad service instead of the food. Both of which I found stellar. I ordered the chili relleno burrito with chicken (can also have it with beef instead) it came with guacamole and sour cream on top with enchilada sauce. Everything tasted fresh and was abundant with flavor. Nothing was overpowering and you could taste each of the ingredients. The sauce tasted like a thick tortilla soup. The chili relleno was cooked perfectly. That and a soda came out to just under 10 bucks. The portion was large enough to leave me stuffed, and looks like I'll be having leftovers for dinner tonight. It's another one of those "hot plate" places, but the flavors were bold and food was fresh. Their Cadillac Margarita was made from a mix; you could taste the sweet and sour mix, but they did pack a punch of tequila. Nothing amazing here. Zero seasoning starting with the beans they serve with bland chips and lackluster salsa. I ordered a taquito from the appetizer menu and it came with a PILE of sour cream and slathered with some strangely sweet red sauce. (Reminded me of sweet and sour sauce at a bad Chinese restaurant.) So we moved up here from San Diego. We have been fairly disappointed with the "Mexican restaurants" we've tried. We went in not expecting much. This place proved to us that there is fantastic Mexican food in SW Portland! Our hostess, waiter(s) and bus boys were nothing short of attentive and pleasant. Our orders can be somewhat tricky (food allergies) and they got our order right! Food came out hot and quick. Salsa was good but the beans were great! You can always tell if the food is going to be good by sampling the beans first. Phenomenal. They must be made with lots of love and lard! Our family had tacos and enchiladas- everyone loved what they ordered. Price was average. We are looking forward to coming here again, soon! read more

Got here tonight and it was somewhat busy but nothing insane. Sat right away and cold, stale, chips and cold bean dip were brought out.. Asked for fresh chips and were given just that. Two out of three of our plates of food came out fairly quickly but the kitchen didn't male one of the meals and it came out late and barely heated through. Just ended up boxing it up so I could microwave it later. One server asked me if it wasn't good and I said no it didn't taste good and wasn't hot and no one cared. Won't come back here... Here's why I won't be back, up front and in bold: They make you tip at least 15% and stand over you and watch as you choose how much tip to give them. No amount of great service, food, or ambiance (all three only average at best) can make up for the feeling at the end of your meal at Mazatlan when you are forced to go up to the front counter and pay with your server watching which of the /mandatory/ tip options you take. Assuming you pay by credit card, you're being rushed, hovered over, and watched as you choose 15%, 20%, 25%, or Other. Now, when I pay on my own, without judgement, I usually tip around 18-20%. When I'm being watched, I really just want to drop this down to nothing. Shame and public humiliation are not good ways to earn repeat business. Honestly, food, decor, cleanliness, and service here are nothing to write home about. Certainly not enough to merit a detailed review of those elements of Mazatlan. Go to one of the other Mexican restaurants in the area and enjoy your meal shame-free. No little piggies. No houses blown over. Just no. read more
