The food and service is always great. The servers are attentive and extremely courteous. Also a lot of room for large parties.

Language barrier is pretty far off. Food is very very bland. If you ask for hot sauce they bring some disgusting homemade hot salsa and charge over $3 for it. Cheese quesadilla was $9 after not having the price listed on the menu. read more

I've been here a few times because of their shrimp soup; however, today was the worst ever in addition to the service. The soup was so salty that I couldn't even eat it without drinking a gallon of water. I told the waitress and she told the manager. I told them they need to taste the broth and not to serve it to anyone else. I didn't want anything else. My party was done and waiting for our check. It took them over 40 minutes for the check so we went up to the waitress asking. The waitress and manager said they still had to charge me half for the soup even though I only had 3 tablespoons of the soup. I we will not be returning to this restaurant. The right thing to do was to not charge me for the soup!!!!! I really didn't even want to give them a star but I didn't have an option. read more

This town ain't big enough for two Mexican restaurants, so this one sits just before getting out of New Baden next to a railroad track. I've come to this place maybe a handful of times, and it's like every other Mexican restaurant. Once you've had one, you've had them all. But something stands out from this place. And it's the reason for the four stars. The chicken soft tacos. I just...I don't know what it is. It's either the texture or the taste or both, but I've had the chicken tacos twice now, and it's...off putting. It's not at "inedible" levels of bad, but it's enough to take you aback for a moment and let you wonder. But don't let that one little thing stop YOU from going there. It's a good atmosphere and always friendly service, so give it a shot. read more

My first time there and it earned every bit of this one star rating. Slooooow service by a young lady with zero to no English skills. (Just telling it like it was, folks.). She was more interested in chatting up the other employees than paying attention to her assigned tables. I could understand if it was a busy night but there were a lot of open tables and it seemed that the servers had it all covered well. I had about two-thirds of my food left when I had to quit eating it. As SALTY as the dish was, I was going to need to rinse off the ingredients at home to make it tolerable - no joke. I said I would like a to-go box, she took my plate, and ..... well......my food didn't return. Everyone else at the table declined to-go boxes but about ten minutes later she was back with two of them! The margaritas were decent but small. No need to return. read more

El Indio, I've tried this restaurant about a half a dozen times. Each experience was a little different. Early on it seemed like they were experiencing some growing pains, but that's because they compete with another restaurant right in town. I don't know if there's any relationship between the two restaurants, but they certainly have to compete for the business. I recommend that they put a sign out in front of their business offering dollar tacos for the business rush on the lunch hour. I knew that might be something that could attract more people into the business. Since then I've noticed that they've had lots of vehicles parked during the dinner rush, which city suggest to me they're doing better, I think that some improvements have occurred, and since my last visit, it was definitely noticeable. Probably still some room to grow, but always one of those things in this business, that you need to kind of stay ahead of things to remain competitive. Went there for lunch the waiter brought me my drinks and walked away. After 5 minutes I asked for a menu because he didn't provide me one. I waited another 10 minutes and he never came back to take my order. They were not busy he walked by a few times and I was waiting to see if he noticed , obviously he didn't. I will never eat there again although all I really had was the chips and salsa. I prefer to support the small local restaurants like this instead of the chains but I will not spend my money or return if I have bad service. They've permanently lost my business. read more

Great place to eat! I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob so some of the menu is pretty on par with what you can expect in the Midwest as far as authenticity, but I will say they make some amazing tacos al pastor! Little slow on service sometimes, but definitely worth the wait! read more

We decided to stop in and try this Mexican restaurant based on all the good reviews we had read. We are not from the area. The outside of the building is bland but the inside has charm and colorful walls like you would see in Mexico. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The place was busy. We ordered the chunky guacamole and were served a good size portion of flavorful guacamole. We also ordered the Indio Dip. This is flavored ground beef mixed with pico de gallo and melted cheese. Very yummy! For a main course, we had the tacos Al Pastor. They were served street taco style on soft tortillas topped with white onion, cilantro and limes on the side. It was also served with a side of green salsa (spicy salsa verde). You could definitely taste the sweetness of the pineapple in the tacos. It reminded us of when we had tacos Al Pastor in Mexico. Very authentic tasting. We enjoyed the complementary chunky salsa and chips. Many people were ordering the margaritas. We will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu - such as the fish tacos. read more
