My ordering habit here is so boring. I order the Carnita Platter, a beer, and head for the salsa bar to the right of the bar area! But what I was served today may well change that order, or even if I visit this spot again! What I was given was not carnitas, but grey colored, shredded pork, not the dark brown chunks with a nice outside crust I'd enjoyed in the past! Obviously, something has changed in the kitchen, and not for the better as it relates to this dish. When I say La Carreta has the best Quesabirria tacos I've ever had. The meat was tender and just melted away when you bit into the tacos. Now the Pescado Acapulco with the mashed potatoes was to die for. The scallops,shrimp, and mahi mahi were all cooked to perfection with a spinach wine sauce over a bed of potatoes. Definitely recommend try this place out because of the amazing food and amazing service they provided. read more

Nice little Mexican Restaurant located just across the parking lot from the Hampton Inn in Bermuda Run NC. There was plenty of choices on the menu and the Covid signs for social distancing and cleanliness were everywhere. The staff were accommodating and friendly though it was late when we arrived . One issue was I had trouble understanding what they were asking me due to the face masks. I already have hearing issues and add an accent and a face mask and there you go ...recipe for problems! We managed to get our order placed and food came quickly! The food was delicious and the price was really reasonable. I'd say you can bet we would be back should we be in the neighborhood again . Pulling up to the restaurant, I was immediately concerned with the lack of vehicles in the parking lot. Usually, this is a proportional to the quality of the place. That applied here! We pulled up 5 deep for an early lunch. The sign said "OPEN"...apparently to the dismay of the waitress. As we entered the door, the first gentleman looked at us if we were the first customers after the ribbon cutting. My buddy (we will call him JOE), was immediately wishing that we would have stopped at the 801 Southern Kitchen. He kind of has this sixth sense about restaurants. I'm not talking about the ability to see dead people but I'm sure if he honed his abilities, he could get there. The 801 had plenty of cars in their parking lot. The inside of the place was nothing special but looked pretty much like any other Mexican restaurant. After being seated, our waitress arrived shortly afterwards. She DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE. Maybe she had a late night. Maybe she had Caucasian fatigue. To be fair, we aren't sure of how many groups of devilishly handsome men she's had to come in for lunch. While giving her drink order, I decided to go with a Dr Pepper? I specifically asked our camarera if they had Dr Pepper OR was it Mr Pibb? For those of you that know, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE! She said it was Dr Pepper so I went with it! Well, the drink tasted funny. Not like Mr Pibb funny but maybe an off brand Dr Pepper. Maybe I was drinking Dr Perky or Dr Thunder. I ordered an ACP...add mushrooms, onions, and zucchini. My buddy, JOE, ordered a beef quesadilla and refired beans. He is somewhat of a bean connoisseur. To hear Joe talk, those were the things that he would've found in a port-a-john. The beef quesadilla was a wet, greasy mess. Out of the other three members in the party, one ordered a chimichanga (or maybe it was a chinchilla). One ordered some type of a burrito. He actually liked it! The last member...I don't remember what he ordered. All I know is, he was complaining about having to go to the bathroom shortly afterwards. If I had to give this place a number grade on a scale of 1 out of 10, I would say 3. Joe produced a 2 when asked what he would rate it...then turned around and produced another 2 a short time later. read more

We've been going to La Carreta for many years and have come to depend on the staff there. Many of them have been working there since they opened and although we like 2 or 3 TexMex restaurants in the area, we like to make sure we stop in here for good food regularly. Their salsa is always top notch and when there last week, the chips were served warm and were some of the best chips I've had in a while. For dinner we had burritos, they were both HUGE, hot and fresh, tasted amazing. Elvis checked on us and made sure we had what we needed. Very Attentive. I lived in the area for YEARS and passed this restaurant countless times and never tried it out... But while in town for a short visit, my husband and I stayed in the Hampton Inn right next door to La Carreeta so of course we found this restaurant super convenient! We had a party of 9 (8 adults and 1 child) for dinner around 8pm on a Thursday night. The restaurant was dead! No wait! We had a wonderful table that accommodated our party. Our server was friendly. Food came out in stages. Some guests came out right away but my dinner came out 2nd to last and then my aunt's a few minutes later. Nonetheless, everyone enjoyed their meals. We mentioned how everyone at our table picked something different. The menu is EXTENSIVE. It was hard to choose! I went with grilled chicken tacos which came with 3 corn tortilla tacos with chicken and a side of Pico de gallo and cheese and a choice of rice or beans and (I went with rice). Flavor was great! Chips and salsa were good as well! Cost was pretty fair. Most dishes around $10pp. We'd definitely return! read more

Right across the street from the Hampton Inn in Bermuda Run, myself, daughter and granddaughter walked over for dinner 12/31. Of course free chips and salsa are brought before the meal and the salsa was very good, with just a touch of heat. I started off with a large Modela Negra, one of my favorite Mexican beers. Then proceeded with Carne Asada steak tacos served on corn tortillas, with pico de gallo and rice or beans. Daughter got chicken fajitas and she got enough to feed a small army so she had to get a to go box to take home the rest. Granddaughter got her favorite, a cheese quesadilla and they didn't scrimp on the cheese. Our server Miquel was good. We all left stuffed and happy. I ordered Pollo Feliz and it was ok. I found it to be salty but you could taste the cheese they added which was delicious. The side dishes were wonderful. I ordered flour tortillas and they turned out nice, all though I do think the corn tortillas are from the bag so they aren't "freshly made". The ice cream was amazing. I am a big fan of ice cream and I ended up eating all of the ice cream. Overall if you're looking for a place to eat Mexican food then this one is good to eat at. The service was quick. read more

I've visited the business a few times. They were busy, but to me, not that busy, I've seen it worse. Tonight, it took me over an hour to get my food. Worst take out exp ever. I ordered Dinner to be delivered by ChowNow .. delivered (across the parking lot!) An item I paid-up for wasn't included. An item I needed to eat the meal. I called and was put on hold 3x. Spoke to 4 diff people ..all said they coukd not help me ir re-deliver missing item. I asked someone run it over to me. I'd already checked in to the hotel.. changed. They said NO. So I walked the entire order back over to them (across Park. Zlot) and asked for a refund. They said they could not refund delivery fee or tip. I was out over $10. This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. The table side guacamole is amazing and made to your liking, the ACP Texano should not be overlooked, and definitely save some room for the fried ice cream! They have a salsa bar in the main dining area, and a large bar area. La Carreta is always kept clean and service is right on point. If Elvis is working, it is worth asking to sit in his section as this is one of our favorite waiters at the restaurant. read more

I would definitely say that La Carreta is one of the more expensive Mexican restaurants in the area however the food is similar to its competitors. La Carreta in Advance prepares some tasty Mexican cuisine in a beautiful building--the attractiveness of the building alone is almost worth a visit. (Please see my backstory on this building at the end of this review.) I sat at the bar to place a to-go order. The bar features a lot of beautiful wood and luxurious booths that are very cozy and inviting. The bartender was polite and helpful but also quiet and business-like. I had a margarita while I waited. It came from a machine, and I am more of a purist when it comes to mixed drinks, yet I must admit that it was excellent. Chips and salsa: the chips were standard fare, but the salsa was outstanding. Very fine and smooth tomato base, it had the perfect amount of seasonings and fresh cilantro. In addition, it had a perfectly awesome heat to it. I would imagine that people who like no heat would think it was too hot, but I LOVED it. Beans and rice: refried beans were generally mild but had a nice flavor. Rice was also mild and a bit dry. Taco, burrito, enchilada: all tasted good but the beef was very mild. The cheese was excellent. I wish there had been a little more sauce. Price was just a tick high. But the owner has to pay that rent somehow. Which takes me to the building. This building did not originally house La Carreta. It was actually called to Saratoga steakhouse. When I first moved to this area into 2003, it was a well-known fact that one of the best steaks in the area could be found just west of Winston-Salem at a little hole in the wall on US Highway 158 called Putters. The owner dry aged his steaks, a time-consuming process that produces a deliciously flavored meat. Eventually he decided to move to eastern Davie County, and had a magnificently beautiful building constructed for his new restaurant, which he named Saratoga. Unfortunately, things did not turn out well. The steaks were truly outstanding, and there was a house-made blue cheese dressing that remains the best I've ever had. EVER. The price, however, more than matched the value of the steak and people found it difficult to dine there on a regular basis without taking out a second mortgage. This was also at the time that the economy went into the tank, which did not help. For this and other reasons, the owner had to shutter his windows and close down. Sometime after that, La Carreta took over the building for their restaurant. So you can still dine in this attractive building, but you will be eating good Mexican food rather than outstanding steak. read more

Good service - quick to be seated, chips arrived right away, refills on chips and drinks were prompt. Waiter was very polite. Cheese dip and Spanish rice were both less flavorful than at most Mexican restaurants I've visited, but were by no means bad. I got the veggie quesadilla - delicious, crispy! Fiancée got chipotle chicken burrito and beef tacos. Tacos were basic, greasy but not bad. Burrito had a few pieces of grisly chicken not able to chew, so watch for that. Great little Mexican spot. Food was quite good and plenty of it. Fajitas were huge and chicken tasty with lots of grilled onion and peppers. Pollo Pablano was tasty, rich poblano mole sauce. BIG SURPRISE was the big beer. Waiter asked what size, large? medium? I went with large, little did I know that was a full liter. Better than the size, the price. Less than $5.
