They had a carnitas meal that was made with shredded pork & it was very tasty, but the "salad" that accompanied it was pretty bland (just plain lettuce & tomato), which is why I only gave them 4 stars. El Limon is a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. The guac is really exceptional, perfectly tangy and salty, and they make their own chips to go with it. However, I got the fish tacos, and they were so boring! Just pan-fried fish in a tortilla with way too much raw onion and cilantro. It desperately needed acid and maybe fat - it was just salt and not enough texture. But their churros are freakin awesome! But their horchata is watery. Looked for a Mexican place in the area and came across El Limon. Very casual place for lunch or dinner. They have a decent sized menu with very affordable prices (nothing over $10 except for dishes with shrimp). I got 4 tacos - tinga (marinated chicken), steak and al pastor - each $2.75/taco. The tacos were good but I liked the al pastor tacos the best - they cook it with pineapple! They do have $10 minimum for credit cards though. My friends got the shrimp tacos and chorizo enchiladas, which they said were good too. The portion sizes were also very large, so come hungry!You do get 2 free margaritas for every meal but the margaritas weren't that great and I probably couldn't drink more than 1. Ordered for takeout. They have huge portions. Burrito is gigantic, but personally I think there's too much rice in it. Fish taco is ok. Al pastor taco is surprisingly good, pineapple really adds a flavor to it. Churros are well fried paired with ice cream. read more

We had been to the former incarnation of this restaurant (El Jalapeño) a few years ago. We took a while to try the new place because while the food was oh-kay (not as good as it is now), they messed up our order significantly last time, and it didn't make us want to rush back. This time, the food was very good. Fresh, beautiful, full of flavor. They even garnished with fresh lime slices! Really really nice presentation, and great flavors. My husband LOVED the sauces (too hot for me, but any heat-spice is too hot for me, so I am not complaining). When we called in for takeout, they answered the phone in Spanish, which is off-putting when you don't speak it, or in my case, when you do speak it, to a college-minor/exchange abroad level of experience, but they deliver it is so fast, you still don't have a clue. Just trying to give a friendly tip that it would be better to at least have a mix of English and Spanish when you are greeted over the phone. Our negative is that we were charged $3 more than we should have been, and unfortunately didn't realize it until later, due to one of us picking up, and the other one looking at the prices on the menu and ordering. It's never fun to be overcharged, so I have to dock them a star for that. read more

This review is a mixed bag. I ordered a steak burrito and an al pastor Supreme taco from there. First, the bad: the burrito. When I saw the size of this thing, I thought that this was monstrous and that I could have some leftovers. When I cut into it though, there was a lot of dead space. I wish I had taken a picture, but there was just a lot of empty space. The inside of the burrito was ok. I ordered it with the Chipotle sauce in the burrito and this had some decent flavor. However, the meat and contents were very bland. They put some kind of green sauce on it that was bitter and....disgusting. The burrito also has peas, corn and chopped carrots in it. Anyway, I read the reviews about the AL Pastor tacos and ordered one of those. That was awesome and had a really great flavor. If I went there again I would no do the burrito and just stick with the AL Pastor tacos. read more

My boyfriend and I went to the El Limon location on Gay Street in West Chestervon the spur of the moment and were thrilled to find one of the best Mexican restaurants we've ever tried, in West Chester or elsewhere. So last time I was here, they were El Jalapeño. Time to try them under the new name. It's not even a question anymore. I've tried all of the local Mexican competition and I feel I can say this unequivocally. This is the absolute best Mexican food in this immediate area. Period. Three tacos later, one Tinga, one Al Pastor, and one Carnitas, and I feel like I had the perfect meal. Each one was a flavor bomb. The Carnitas were the mildest flavored of the three, but they were incredibly juicy, and took well to the salsa as the perfect complement. A side of rice and beans was also perfectly flavored. No they don't have a lot of space or tables. Chances are you might have to wait for a table or get it to go. But the food is worth that hassle. Take the fact that they are crowded as a good sign. We WILL be back! I usually end my 5 star reviews with that sentiment but I figured I'd just get it out of the way early- because it's THAT good! I had the sopes tinga, which was incredibly tender chicken on top of a corn cake. Extremely flavorful and fulfilling. I also had a asada taco. The steak was well done but still not tough and the homemade corn tortillas didn't crack when folded- like some I've had in the past. Where the meal gets even better is the alambre! My fiancé ordered it after reading the description on the menu- meat with peppers, onions, bacon and cheese. Ok! He went with the mixto which was chicken and beef. We both agreed that he "won" in the menu choice. It was salty, spiced, and decedent without being heavy. It was literally one of the best things I've tasted in a long time- something not to take lightly. This place is tougher to find and a little rough around the edges- which makes it's even cooler. Never thought I would find an authentic Mexican food joint in the middle of Pennsylvania, but El Limon debunked my presumption. I ordered their deluxe nachos, tacos and the taquitos so I can't speak on their other items obviously. The deluxe nachos were excellent. I would prefer these nachos over any nachos dish that you find at your local Applebees/TGIF. We ordered our nachos with carne asada and they give you plenty of meat on top. The meat flavor was spot-on and the chips themselves are tasty too. The same can be said for their tacos although their tortillas weren't anything special, but I didn't think they were bad either. Fortunately, all the tacos come with a ridiculous amount of meat so you're definitely getting your money's worth. Their hot sauces/salsas are great as well. The taquitos were great in that they had potatoes in them along with chicken and they were fried really well. My only complaint would be that their pico de gallo seemed a bit lacking but I suppose if you were to combine the pico de gallo with one of their hot sauces, it is a good combination. Other than that, I would highly recommend El Limon to those who are craving legit authentic Mexican food. read more

The Best Authentic Mexican place I have been to in the Philly area. I hear there is a sister restaurant in Conshohocken PA. I need to try that place out. My co-worker order the fish tacos, I ordered the shrimp and our friend ordered the burrito. I loved the fish tacos. They were very tasty and seasoned well. I have been to a rural place in Mexico where they made us tacos and the taste was very similar. The shrimp tacos are okay. They packed a ton of shrimp in the taco but that also made the shrimp fall out very easily. It was a little harder to eat. The refried beans were also excellent. Nothing is more comforting (to me at least) than the soft sound of sizzling food and clanging pots and pans while savouring a meal and having a quiet conversation with your loved one. We had the Al Pastor Nachos (pork and chorizo) and if she asks (with everything on it, just say YES! And hubbykins had the tongue Buririto, ooooweeeee! it's melt in your mouth! The dishes were well balanced, it's not smothered with sour cream nor cheese.
