With great surprise and sadness I write this review. Topolo was the pinnacle of my dining…read moreexperience journey when visiting Mazatlan. Magical. Delicious. Memorable. The gold standard of what I loved about restaurants when we visit. Last night I was shocked and disappointed. It's changed...and not for the better. Still the best is the head waiter. Was grateful for him. Kind, inviting, knowledgeable, professional. He is the one waiter in my world travels who I love the most. Now the bad news. I noticed the seating had changed and become uncomfortable, ugly, gross. I remember being amazed by the antique tables and large comfortable locations in the garden. They are all metal now. My wife needed a seat changed out because the first seat was hurting her. The salsa was still delicious. The beer cold. We all enjoyed our drinks. The salad I ordered came, with dust or dirt in it. I was the only one who ordered a salad. The meal came in a reasonable time. My wife had fish. It was good. My aunt had Carne Asada, she said it was good. We ordered 3 beef Filets anticipating succulent delight. We 3 gentleman couldn't have been more saddened by the meal. Overcooked to zero pink after ordering medium rare. We could have sent it back but,..the filet was so tuff and stringy my father in law choked on his, I couldn't cut mine, and my other uncle just stared at it in disbelief. There was no recovering from this 440 peso disaster. Topolo. Take this off your menu or buy beef that hasn't worked a field the past 10 years. I have zero desire to return as my time in Mazatlan is short and I focus on telling others about and spending money at restaurants I truly want to return to, Your wait staff was good to us. But I will not be paying 900 pesos to be driven to you again. I will remember you as you were, not what I experienced last night.

Everything here from start of meal to finish was outstanding. I had the chicken with a corn fungus…read moresauce.

The environment is full of energy, if you're looking for a lowkey spot please look elsewhere. The food was delicious! We ordered aguachile, shrimp tostada, tuna and la Reina (the queen, octopus tostada). The food was fresh, the flavors of the citrus and seafood were a perfect match. The views and ocean breeze are top tier. We go here at least once on our trips to MAZ. If you like culture and live music check out this place.

Being in one of Mexico's most famous coastal cities, seafood seemed like the obvious choice, so we decided to have lunch at El Muchacho Alegre, a restaurant right on the waterfront. I have to admit, my first impression was excellent. The location is hard to beat. Sitting outdoors with the ocean directly in front of us, watching the waves roll in while enjoying the sea breeze, it felt exactly like the kind of coastal Mexico experience you imagine before arriving. The view alone almost made me think that even if the food turned out to be average, the setting would make the visit worthwhile. We ordered the grilled seafood platter and a seafood margarita, both of which sounded promising on the menu. After all, when you're dining in a city known for its seafood, expectations naturally rise. The seafood platter looked impressive when it arrived. The plate was loaded with a variety of seafood and certainly made a great first impression. Unfortunately, the actual flavors didn't quite match the presentation. Several items seemed overcooked, leaving the seafood a little dry, and the seasoning was fairly ordinary. More disappointing was that a few of the seafood items carried a noticeable fishy taste. That was probably the most frustrating part of the meal. The ingredients themselves appeared to have potential, but the preparation never allowed their natural sweetness and freshness to shine through. Sitting beside the ocean, you almost expect that one bite that reminds you why fresh coastal seafood can be so special. That moment never really arrived. The seafood margarita followed a similar pattern. It looked colorful and appealing when it was served, but the flavors felt surprisingly flat. The different seafood components never came together in a particularly memorable way, and in some bites the fishiness was even more noticeable. As the meal went on, I found myself spending more time looking at the ocean than thinking about the food. Around us, people were enjoying drinks, taking photos, and relaxing with friends and family. The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable, and I began to understand why the restaurant is so popular. Many visitors probably come here for the setting, the views, and the overall experience rather than for exceptional seafood. Viewed as a beachfront restaurant where you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and spend a pleasant afternoon, it succeeds. Viewed as a destination for memorable seafood in Mazatlán, it felt much more average. When I left, the strongest memories I took with me were the ocean views, the sea breeze, and the relaxing afternoon by the water--not the seafood on the table.
