I'm Dominican from the east coast and miss and crave the food from back east. This is the only place I've found that comes close to providing what I need for making a Dominican breakfast -Green plantains, for mangú (mashed plantains with butter + pickled onions on top) -Dominican salami (induveca is my preferred brand) -White frying cheese -discs for pastelitos (different from empanadas) They occasionally have large juicy avocados from Florida (which are really the ones from the DR), and their baked goods are a treat (I got the pan de mantequilla -- similar to a pound cake). I have noticed that when the female cash my items, that there are usually added extra charges to my receipt. They have done this more than once and when I coaught it in the store they did not seem surprised nor were they seemed regretful of the error. Seems to me that the extra charges were done purposely. SHOPPERS!! Beware!!!! check your receipts before leaving EL MAMBI in Glendale California. They also need to upgrage their receipts to show what was purchased and how many items. This is a great place to find all your typical Cuban foods such as malanga . Malta, etc.It is a small place but that just makes it more convenient to see what you are looking for. They are very friendly and helpful if you have questions. I highly recommend this very unique spot that is a little piece of Cuba. read more

I recently found this gem in the middle of LA! Being from the East Coast, but living in LA for 13 years now, I'm shocked I didn't find El Mambi Mkt sooner. They have all the East coast/ Caribbean favorites! Especially from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Cuba. They have snacks, drinks, vegetables, candies, cleaning supplies, and so much more. But, my favorite items which you can't find anywhere else in LA is their Dominican salami & Cheese! What a find! Also, the older gentleman that owns the place is so nice and welcoming. Nice to have found this market! They have my Spanish products that I used to buy back home (NY), so having to move to the west coast and finding a grocery store that has the products of food that I love to eat and cook is a lifesaver because I don't have to pay the ridiculous shipping fees from the east coast or the manufacturer. I am a Cuban from the east coast and finding the foods and groceries i grew up on is impossible except for this ONE market. every time i walk in there it floods me with nostalgia and i can always finnd what Im looking for to make a picadillo or congris or even perfectly ripe maduros. Being a Dominican- American the struggle is real when it comes to finding Dominican food in Cali. I recently learned about this place and decided to check it out. I was quite pleased to see that they have Dominican salami, longaniza, and Queso de friar or Dominican cheese that you can fry. They also have tons of other Dominican food. Finally a Dominican latin bodega!! You can find cheese to fry, guava paste, Goya seasonings and canned produce, batata, yucca and plátanos. I was in heaven. Here in the west coast it mostly attends to either white or Mexicans, not Latin. I was so happy to find a place that reminds me of back home in the east coast. We hosted a Christmas Eve dinner for 15 people and she bought this beautiful 20lb pork leg and yuca. Marinated the pork in homemade mojo and roasted it for 5 hours. Everyone loved it. read more

What a great little market with so much variety! Having moved to Glendale from South Florida we have missed so many of the products we would normally be able get at the grocery store, but we have found many of them here at El Mambi. This is the only store I've found Cuban and Colombian products. The prices are a little higher than what you would pay at a chain supermarket, but totally worth it. These are products you can't find everywhere. You can find green plantain, yuca, even boniato and malanga! There are also tons of frozen Goya products like maduros, yuca and croquetas. There was also a little section with Colombian foods like panela, box mix for buñuelos, pan de bono etc. I was probably most excited about finding Kirby black beans with creole seasoning. These are by far my favorite canned beans and are soooooo good and easy to for a quick meal. We also found guayaba paste and Iron Beer! We will absolutely, most definitely be coming back when we get that craving for the food we grew up with. read more

Having grown up in Miami, this market was a surprise flash back in time. Very friendly people and familiar products that I haven't seen In a long while. The produce was reminded me of the open air markets back home, the plantains, coconuts and they even had Florida avocados. Love those Florida avo's! The only grocery store that you can get Cuban products. The two ladies that work there are both very nice and friendly. The owner is also very nice and helpful. My family has been shopping at this Hispanic gem for decades! The perfect place for your Cuban and other caribbean island needs plus! Might be small but they pack a lot of great products in there. This little gem is the only place in the LA basin where one can get salchicon and queso de freir to be able to make mangu breakfast. Authentic Dominican breakfast, so long as you have the platanos verdes...which can be found anywhere. This store also have a vast array of ingredients for making paellas, including the spices and the pans - of various sizes. Great place. read more
