Having driven by El Marisco countless times over the past several years, I finally decided to swing by for lunch. This spot is your quintessential local Mexican spot from layout, decor, menu, seating, etc...and I'm good with that, as I know what to expect for the most part. I popped by for a late lunch, around 2:00 PM and they were still serving a brunch/lunch menu until 3:00, in addition to the Norma menu. I went off the normal menu starting with a bean dip, then the Pollo Alfredo (chicken, rice and cheese) for my main. The food was good, nothing special, but was exactly why I ordered and expected. Service was friendly and welcoming. She checked on me once during my meal and then shortly after to wrap things up. The space is clean and well kept conditionally. There is dedicated parking, but lot is small, so I'd imagine on busy nights, it can get tricky. Overall, solid 3.5 for me. Not in a rush to come back, but also would not actively avoid. read more

This place is pretty good. My favorite thing on their menu is the guacamole casero. It's chunky pieces of avocado with fresh onion, tomato, and cilantro with a little lime juice. You can tell it's made to order as it's always fresh and delicious. They have a nice selection of vegetarian options, which is really nice for me. I'd rate the food as pretty good, but not the best I've had in the area. The food is always fresh though! I feel like their margaritas (both frozen and on the rocks) are pretty weak, so that's a con. The last 3 times we've visited we've had the same waitress that is very hard to communicate with and has messed our orders up, but they've been easily corrected so no complaints there. Otherwise a pretty solid Mexican restaurant that's always clean and they are always friendly with very little wait time to be seated. Food comes out fresh and quickly. Almost always very good. Service is hit and miss. Last visit took over an hour to get our food after ordering and we had already been sitting for half an hour. The fish tacos are incredible, the chili relleno was the best I've had out here (another Cali transplant, truly authentic Mexican is kind of hard to find out here). The homemade guacamole is awesome. Best Mexican in Madison/Rivergate hands down. The place is a smidge hard to find (next to Captain D's), but the food is amazing. It contains some of your more typical Tex-Mex fares but also some authentic Mexican dishes if you're feeling adventurous. My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years, and I've never had a meal that wasn't amazingly good. To tie the knot, they have great customer service. I could not recommend this place enough! The salsa was delicious, we got 24 oz margs (although they have 32 oz and that's a win) which are seriously SO FREAKING GOOD! Even my mom who is very particular when it comes to her margs loved them! The food was incredible and our waitress (i think her name was Beatrice) was really, really nice. This was my first visit to this restaurant. The environment was cool and the staff was friendly. It's hard to find a Mexican restaurant that has great salsa, margaritas, and food. While the salsa wasn't my favorite (a preference thing), everything else was good. The menu offers a variety of items that will please any palate and the prices are reasonable. The cheese dip was not hot enough so it was really lumpy and tasteless. The chips were cold. I ordered a combo plate with 2 beef tacos, 1 beef enchilada, 1 cheese chili relleno. The beef was so salty I could not eat any of the items with beef. The chili relleno with cheese was ok, but nothing special. The service was poor.
