It was pretty empty on the weekday afternoon we went for lunch, but maybe they do more takeout. I was on this side of town and I have already tried three other Mexican places in Bellevue with mixed reviews. I knew this place was here so I decided to give it a try. I *almost went to 615 Chutney but their menu was a bit complicated from yelp photos so I went with Cancun. Standard, typical Tex Mex. Staff are attentive. I was acknowledged immediately, and immediately seated. I was also given chips and salsa immediately. The chips had a bit of an off taste, I couldn't quite place it. They are very focused on the customer here. The decor is nice and the restaurant is VERY spacious. It's perfect for large groups. I didn't see any carne asada on the menu so I opted for the Pollo Loco (Flattened chicken breast and chorizo on top, beans, rice) with corn tortillas. The food came out in less than 10 minutes which is very nice. The chicken was cooked well. It was soft and moist. The chorizo was a tad too salty. I don't know, but I had never tasted chorizo like this before. The salt level was WAY too much for me. In hindsight, I should have scraped it off and only ate the chicken but I was hungry :( Beans and rice were pretty good. I am not sure if the tortillas were made in house or not, they did not look like they were mass produced so that's a good thing. They weren't as soft and home made feeling as the ones from Mexichina though. I went to the mens room and I then really got a feel for the size of the place. Its massive. Like I said, it seems like you could have parties here or a banquet. I only am giving this an OK rating because of the taste of some of the food items. I had not been to Cancuns for around 3 years and it has gone down tremendously. The cheese dip was cold and watered down , the salsa was like thin tomato juice, My food had no taste whatsoever and cheap cheap food now. My friend's food was also cheap with no flavor. Overall I was not impressed. Not a good place for a large group by any shape. Although you have a server take you order, they write everything down on one check and you check out at the front by saying what you order. When it comes time for the food to be delivered, they walk into the room and shout out what the food item is for someone to raise their hands. You know where the person was who ordered the food, delver it to them - otherwise it is a fast food experience. I was very pleasantly surprised with my experience! It's in a strip mall next to a Kroger so the expectations were not super high but since it's in a strip mall there was plenty of parking. There are also plenty of tables/booths which is nice because it doesn't feel like you are on top of other people and you don't feel rushed to eat and leave. I ordered the enchiladas supreme which was very good. It came with one cheese, one chicken, one beef and one beef enchilada. I also got a jumbo frozen margarita. I have no idea why people rave about this. There were three of us for dinner, with a variety of orders and appetizers. E also got a pitcher of margaritas. The margaritas were a generic premix with almost no alcohol. And the pitcher was full of ice so in 10 minutes it was also watery. All of our food was very average. The portions were very large and the prices were fairly low...so if you just want a lot of food for your dollar, they do that pretty well. But the sauces were boring, no interesting sauces or special seasonings here. This is a solidly average American Mexican place with average food for a good price. I have a dairy allergy- the guac has sour cream so stay away from that if you do as well. Only negative thing I have to say. Came in around 6:30 on a Sunday night (December 16). We were immediately greeted and sat. A young man brought salsa and chips and we sat. I finally had to get up and walk to the front of the restaurant and get some napkins. I could not find the silverware. Our water came and we ordered a diet coke and a dos equis draft. They were delivered in a timely manner. The salsa was spicy, the chips were warm and fresh, and the beverages were cold. Our server returned and took our order. My wife ordered bean dip and I ordered the combo with burrito, tostada, and chile rellano. The bean dip was delivered first, on a dinner plate, covered in cheese dip. It was warm and hearty. My combo was delivered and it was hot. Burrito was tasteless. Tostada was tasteless. The Rellano was tasetless. How can you produce a plate in a Mexican restuarant that has no taste. Nope. Nope. Went here for dinner on a week night- it was pretty busy. The house margaritas were really heavy on the mix and not very good. The waiter was very nice but a couple times I looked over and he was doing karate moves with one of the other servers by the entrance. Which was funny but not super professional. Chips and salsa were fine nothing to write home about. I ordered two beef tacos and the meat tasted like it had not been seasoned at all like no taco seasoning even which was really sad I kind of felt like they were making food that I thought Americans wanted to eat instead of authentic Mexican. Also the booths were kind of grimy and I'm pretty sure if you actually turn the lights on in that restaurant there would be some nasty things found.It is possible that I am confused because they were completely packed so people do go there. This is by far my favorite mexican restaurant. I've been coming for 18 years and have always had an amazing experience. Friendly staff, amazing food, and cheap prices. It was that slimy textured kind I'm not a fan of, possibly the cheap American cheese that Kraft makes. The sauce was a generic red sauce that I doubt was homemade. We went for dinner last night and the place was decently packed! The atmosphere was very fitting for a Mexican restaurant. We got a pitcher of beer and the waiter brought over two frosty mugs. We also got warm chips and a regular and fire salsa right away. I ate the shrimp fajitas and my husband had steak with peppers and onions. I thought the steak was over cooked and dry, but he liked it. The shrimp fajitas came with so much shrimp I couldn't finish! Also I though the rice was extremely flavorful. The rice is the most authentic Mexican rice ever, the cheese dip is absolutely perfect, and the large stuffed burritos are perfection. The beef isn't greasy or watery at all. The salsa isn't too spicy. The waitstaff is friendly, attentive at refilling drinks and your food is always in front of you in less than 10 minutes! The prices are great and you definitely get great quality and large portion size for your money. The best lunch special is on Friday. Cancun, has amazing fajitas! You get a half order of chicken or beef fajitas, with rice and beans. There is enough to eat your lunch, get full and then take some of the fajitas to go! On Sunday's Cancun, has a buffet with all the essentials and a cake. The buffet has beef and chicken fajita fillings, enchiladas, tacos, rice and beans, cheese quesadillas, cheese dip, guacamole, pico de gallo, and always some type of yellow cake. I live close to Bellevue, so I've been here many times ( more than 10). I grew up in California so I CRAVE Mexican food. ( I make good Mexican food myself so I know fresh ingredients are a must if it's going to be good.) I love guacamole so I used to order it with the chips. The last two times I told them not to bring me that pre-made stuff, I wanted freshly made guacamole. The last 2 times, I got pre- made and stale chips. I sent both back and got the same sort of dip back and another basket of stale chips. I let that slide, ordered a sangria and we ordered lunch. I'm very suspicious when my lunch plate is hotter than my lunch ( microwaved) and my lunch is brought to my table in under 5 minutes. My sangria was served in a small wine glass, basically 3 sips. I'd love to see the kitchen. Is everything frozen waiting to be put on a plate and stuck in the microwave? The restaurant is usually busy so how else would it be possible? I was staying overnight in Bellevue and had a craving, so I tried this place on a Thursday night. The sign out front said 'Mexico City Restaurant' so I said to myself, "We'll just see about that." A review of the menu indicated nothing other than the typical Tex-Mex fare. But, hey, this is Tennessee, not Texas, so I was not too surprised. The house margarita was very sweet, and had only a suggestion of tequila flavor. I ordered their best enchilada plate, and I must admit it was pretty good, almost homemade-tasting. The ingredients tasted fresh and non-greasy. On the other hand, the obligatory corn chips were very bland and the salsa was pure gringo-style with no heat at all. I thought the service was a bit slow and I had to ask for water. The restaurant was not very crowded at the time, so I can't explain the slow service. Also, I sat at the bar and there was bartender, so I had to wait for a passing table waiter to take my order. Normally I would give Cancun a 3 star and maybe even a 2 star as I have definitely had better but there was one thing that was a superstar so I will go up since I know I will be back for it. This is your basic Mexican place for Nashville. Chips come out immediately. Salsa is just OK and has no heat whatsoever. Ask for some hot sauce. The menu is extensive and includes chicken, beef, and pescado dishes and even combination options. I got the chicken enchiladas. It was kind of odd to me that really it was cheese enchiladas with the chicken on TOP of them and then smothered in the red sauce. I am used to just putting the chicken and cheese inside the enchilada and doing it that way so it was odd. I put some hot sauce on it and made it much better. But the SUPERSTAR of the lunch, truly, was the chorizo cheese dip. So this is like your queso but with real honest to God chorizo in it. It was SPICY. It was GREASY (in a good way). The chorizo made me warm and happy. It was like for a small second I was back in TEXAS. Oh man, it was good. So I proceeded to top my enchiladas with this and then was a happy camper. Service was good, we were there at an off time so not a lot of competition. They have a big roomy bar there so I could see people sitting there getting their drink on after work during happy hour. Extra bonus that I was eavesdropping on the wait staff talking to each other and, thanks to my Duolingo Spanish app, I could pick up on some of what they were talking about. So when you go, just get your tacos or enchiladas or burritos or whatever you are getting, then get an order of this chorizo cheese dip, slather it on your food, and go to town! Add some hot sauce for extra spice and you can almost imagine what Tex-Mex (not Mex-Mex) would offer you. read more

Overall: Very basic Mexican food, but the service is so fast, it makes up for the slight flavor deficit. Food/Drinks: Nothing is overly spicy or adventurous but for basic Mexican offerings, it works well. One of my favorites is the chorizo quesadilla. Odd, right? But it's pretty tasty. If you're feeling especially evil, order a bowl of queso dip and drizzle it over the top. Other good options are Jim's Nachos, the quesadilla rellena and fajitas. But, honestly, pick what you would at any other Mexican joint and Cancun will deliver what you're used to. Nothing outside the box, but if I'm eating Mexican food in the middle of Tennessee, I'm not setting the bar too high. Atmosphere/Service: It's a slightly dingy, dated strip mall restaurant, but I feel comforted that the majority of people working here speak English as their second language.
