Wall to wall floor to ceiling Fiesta goods from fiesta dresses and shirts, pinatas, dolls, flowers, everything bright and colorful and handmade by south of the border artisans. Some prices are super affordable, like paper flower hair wreaths and Lele dolls. Other items like embroidered fiesta dresses are pricier. I paid $38 for a child's fiesta dress but she looked so cute in it that it was worth it. There is also a Dia de los Muertos museum and large area of items to purchase. If you can't find it here I doubt it is available. The whole place is a bright color explosion and the staff is helpful and available. There is a little eatery inside that I will review separately. All said and done this Fiesta at North Star is a bright visit to a fun place with that Tejano vibe that makes SATX fabulous.

As you scan the room, you see bright embroidered pueblo dresses hanging from racks (still own a couple), strings of papel picado flying overhead, and shelves overflowing with decorations with the spirit of San Antonio's Fiesta. The store is bold, busy, and totally festive. The space is larger than it looks from the outside...deep and wide. There is virtually no dead space. Everywhere you look you find a new discovery...handcrafted items that reflected a deep connection to Mexican and Latin American culture. The store has a wide range of authentic Fiesta merchandise and cultural goods. In fact, I saw the tissue paper flowers, large and small, throughout the store. I have fond memories of placing one the flowers or a band of flowers in my hair during the Battle of Flowers or Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) parades. The decorations, music, and overall layout are designed to immerse visitors in the culture of Fiesta. Most items are pretty reasonably priced. However, the larger pinatas and more intricate items could cost more. In addition, staff is available throughout the store to assist you. But thoroughly fun!…read more Most of the shops sell overpriced touristy trinkets- think of lowest common denominator stereotypes of Mexico turned into tourist items- from wrestling masks to shot glasses and everything else imaginable. A few shops sell more authentic items- the old ball-and-cup toys in one shop reminded me of childhood trips to Mexico long ago. Even though not an authentic market, it's a must see for visitors to San Antonio.

I do not like to collect anything and only purchase items that have a purpose. So this shopping setup goes against everything I usually gravitate toward. However, when on vacation I do like to get a taste of the local fare and perhaps grab a little something to remember my visit. Near where we were staying is the Market Square-an indoor/outdoor market boasting brightly colored, cheaply made and mostly imported items. There are lots of people, upbeat music and an energy that lures you in. Here, you can find a variety of articles of clothing, hats and shot glasses. I was looking for something that I could take to my son-something practical-ish that I wouldn't mind seeing around the house. We visited three separate times (it was a stop on our tour bus), but each time I left empty handed. The hours are a bit limited-they open at ten (or a bit after, really) and close at 4pm. There are restaurants sprinkled throughout, which might draw more people than the actual market. I would have liked to see some more high-quality, artisan made items rather than so many cheap things that were mass produced. Or more "consumable" items such as soaps, candles, candies, etc. But if you're looking for a souvenir without having to spend a lot of money, you just may find something here.

I remember walking along the Mexican touristy boardwalks and markets enjoying all the gift shops, music and street food. Mexico is a country known for it's rich culture. I remember traveling to the Garibaldi square famous for Mariachi Music and its local native vendors who come and sell handmade items like dolls, sarapes, rugs, pottery, jewelry, Agua Frescas, churros, fruit on a stick, roasted corn, street tacos. Well, the Marketplace is a tiny taste of Mexico, and thankfully, I don't have to drive all the way to the Motherland to find some great souvenirs. You'll find all kinds of curios, pottery, marble chess sets, wooden toys...no shortage of fun gifts. I loved showing my kids all the wonderful artisans since we no longer visit Mexico on a regular basis. We bought some beautiful pottery and my boys got some fun souvenir luchadores and candy to take home. Overall a fun day of touristy shopping! We'll be back!

If you've never been here before, Lolo is a shop in the Olmos Park area that specializes in high-quality products from Mexico. They work with artisans and make sure they get paid accordingly for their work to ensure a fair trade. Overall, I think is wonderful that they want to make sure that their art and work is being recognized outside of Mexico, and that they can depend on this partnership to succeed and have financial security. The store has everything you can imagine from clothing, to home decor, and other stuff. They have a nice variety of artists from all over the country and the prices are reasonable for the quality of work. Please note that these are high quality products and not the cheap stuff you find at other store during Fiesta. All of their products are unique pieces and it will reflect in the prices.
