What can I say just stopping by from our trip back from Waco and this place is yummy Hawaiin tacos is a must try chips and salsa also good

We went with a party of 12 for breakfast to catch up with some family and we have been a few times before as some of the family lives in Waxahachie. It's a pretty decent size restaurant with two seating sections and a bar with a lot of decor. We arrived before the rest of the party and were seated and drink orders taken and the server was friendly. I ordered the chicken fried steak plate with two eggs over easy, hash browns and it came with two biscuits and a side of gravy. I was actually surprised how good it was as I have been before and it wasn't the greatest. The chicken fried steak was seasoned nicely with a good breading. The hash browns were seasoned well and the biscuits were nice and soft with a side of gravy to top it off. My only complaint was the eggs were over done but it was still a good a good meal. I was able to taste the menudo which for me needed more hominy and a bit more seasoning. There aren't many great options for dining out in Waxahachie but this place is a decent one for the area. Cute outside & quaint place inside. They have a bar area & a restaurant. We entered through the bar and were immediately greeted and told we could sit anywhere. Bar area is dark & had TVs blaring loud with FIFA on. We would have watched FIFA but also wanted to be able to hear each-other so we went in the separate restaurant area which was light & comfortable. We were immediately brought chips, salsa, & a mild cheese sauce. The chips were thick & not too salty. The cheese sauce was good and unexpected. The salsa had a strange twang to it - couldn't eat it. (Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that way or spoiled). My Mom got and enjoyed a small tortilla soup. Lunch specials during the week for $9.99 I got the #31 Guadalajara plate- chicken quesadilla, ground beef tostada, & rice & beans. Rice and beans were cold. Guacamole tasted packaged. Good amount of meat in the quesadilla. Waitress was pleasant. Pay at counter when you're done. Our waitress didn't tell us to do this or give us a tab to take to counter. We just finally assumed this is what we were supposed to do after she cleared our plates and never came back. Waited 24hr before writing review incase I got sick. So far so good. read more

Hadn't been here in a while so it was good to visit few wks ago. Had my usual #28 (chicken) and it didn't disappoint. Two tortilla's full of chicken. (i get the queso on the side so they don't get soggy) Chips were fresh. Hubby enjoyed his food too. Service was good and our drinks stayed filled. read more

The manager hung up on us when we asked for the manager. Then when we called back she wouldn't answer. After a while she did answer and didn't respond professionally to our issues. We will not be returning to this location. The owner needs to be aware that the manager is upsetting customers. read more

I have never been so disappointed with service visited the location off hey 77 in Waxahachie the "manager" or so she said she was took our order with a look like we were inconveniencing her brought drinks and we never saw her again no are you ok do you need anything we had to grab other waitresses to bring the check . to go boxes and on top of that, the music was so loud we couldn't talk over it and every other word was GD and FU with children in the restaurant the older waiter in the restaurant apologized over and over said we received terrible service, but there was nothing he could do. read more

Service was impeccable. The ladies were efficient, polite and never let us down. Old world Ambiance. Comfy. But the star of the day was the food!!!! Usually the chicken and shrimp get overcooked and tough in these types of dishes, but NO WAY!! Tender and tasty. The shrimp was beyond great. This could easily have been a five star review BUT: The big problem with this restaurant is consistency. I can't bring people here because I'll never know if it's a good food day or a bad food day. First the good: They have excellent chips and salsa. They bring you a cold salsa which seems to be a chili based salsa and they bring you a warm salsa which seems like a warm tomato soup with a little spice. Both salsas are good. They have an appetizer called queso compuesto. It is a cheese dip with taco meat, guacamole, and pico. It is by far the best cheese dip I have had at any Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant. It has also always been consistently good. Guacamole live is another excellent appetizer. They come to your table and make guacamole dip. It has a bit of a kick and is very good. Then there's the bad part: The parrillada mixta, which is beef chicken and shrimp fajitas. When they make this entrée correctly it is perfection and it is the best fajitas you can get anywhere near this area. The meats are seasoned perfectly and there is no better fajita offered anywhere. But, when the entree is not made correctly it is very bland. It is so bland my dog just looks at me like I'm stupid when I take the leftovers home and try to pawn it off on him. The meat is still cooked good, but there is just no taste to it. The big problem is that this entree is never consistent, though it borders on being consistently bland. For this reason they receive a 2 star review. How could I recommend this place and then have people tell me how bland the fajitas were. There is one other problem with this place and that is that they are incredibly stingy with their tortillas. If you order the fajitas in the morning before 2pm I think, you only receive 2 tortillas. They serve you enough meat for 4 tortillas but they only give you 2. If you order after 2, they give you 3 tortillas, which isn't much better. They charge 1.25 for extra tortillas but you shouldn't have to pay for the bare minimum or have to ask for more tortillas during your meal. --- The look of the place is nice. They have a bar on one side and restaurant on the other. read more

Second time to this restaurant. We experienced attentive service, delicious main dishes--I had flank steak with nopales--and a pretty good margarita. It was a jalopeño margarita and was a bit on the sweet side, but artistically presented, and cheaper than claimed in an earlier review. It had a typically Mexican ambiance. I love the location of this El Mexicano Grill. Downtown Hachie is a fun place to explore and shop. It was pretty packed when we arrived, but we were sat pretty quickly. Someone was leaving the same time we entered and there wasn't anyone waiting in front of us. Our waitress was great and loved the kiddo. She got our order in pretty quick. I've visited this restaurant at least 40 times over the last 6 years. I've gone alone, with my husband often, and with large parties. The service is about 40% and the food is always 100% As long as you set your expectations, you have a chance to truly enjoy some AMAZING FOOD. Like the charro beans.... I grew up chicana and these are the best I've ever had (don't tell my madastra). I buy them in bulk for potlucks. ALL the compliments! We've had so many dishes here and they have all been delish. But.... Expect to have some of the worst service you've ever experienced. And if it's decent, you'll feel pleasantly surprised and grateful! My husband and I decided to make a to go order for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We phone called our order a little before 5 pm and ended up ordering: 6 Piece Buffalo Wings, $10.99 prior to tax- This appetizer came with a small side order of fries. I thought the wings were just okay. The fries were oily and soggy. Wouldn't recommend this appetizer. Chips and Salsa- Complimentary and nice that it came with our to go order. The salsa was spicy but good. The chips were oily (should have been drained longer) and freshly made. #11 Tres Amigos Plate, $14.50 prior to tax- This trio came with the following (all beef fajita, according to the menu) taco, tostada and quesadilla that comes with a side of rice and beans. I didn't try any of this but my husband thought it was good. This ended up being 2 meals for my husband. Everything was covered in cheese though so it was hard to tell what was what when we opened the styrofoam box. #6 Enchilada Plate, $12.99 prior to tax- I opted for this entree and asked for the sauce to be placed on the side. I am glad I did because the sauce was a little too spicy for me (I'm not much of a spicy eater) and thought it was fine with just the cheese alone. My entree also came with rice and beans. I think I got more beans than my husband. When asked what filling I wanted for the enchiladas, I just requested one of each (chicken, pork, cheese). My leftovers were also made for another meal the next day. ----------------------- (Total= $42.74 after tax, prior to tip) The menu on this restaurant's website was outdated and also did not provide the full menu. I had to rely on the photos of the menu on this Yelp page (although the prices are outdated too since our order was a few dollars more per item ordered that showed on the receipt. I ordered the lunch special chile relleno $8.99, shrimp taco and the menu Mexican sangria soda (the waiter asked for my ID). Chile relleno was pretty good, not to eggy and the pepper was tender. When it comes to Mexican I'm a bit particular and not being prejudice just stating my opinion that don't really care for Authentic Mexican but prefer Tex-Mex. I prefer the Tex-Mex around the Dallas area apposed to Mexico City Mexican in Austin of San Antonio. We joke that we judge a Mexican restaurant first by their chips & salsa and then by their tequila. But in this case I and judging this place by not only the taste but if they give one basket of chips and one tiny bowl of salsa for 4 people well that just gets me pissy. We had a very nice server so I didn't really get pissy but I personally think that typically Dallas as being very generous with chips and Salsa and Austin and San Antonio being stingy. I like to have my own salsa, just saying. The chips tasted good and the salsa pretty good. They have a hot and cold version you have to ask for the hot. Really good Guacamole with the option of having it made at your table. My dish was the Chicken Monterey and it looked really good with good quality chicken just tasted a little bland and that's my opinion of authentic Mexican. I tasted the chicken quesadilla and it was pretty good as well just a bit bland. So my assessment if most people think it pretty good, I think it needs a little more flavor or seasoning. I had a fajita steak plate with a cheese enchilada... the enchilada Chile gravy reminded me of nanas!! The steak was tender and juicy! This place is cozy like a dive bar, and has excellent Mexican food, great service and friendly staff. I especially like the steak plate with rice and beans and nopales...soooo good! The nopales is worth ordering as a side to any plate, it's tangy, with a light crunch, sautéed with onions and tomatoes and is just perfect. They also have a fun (new school) jukebox machine, so you can pick your favorite songs while you have a drink and wait for your food to arrive. Stink, how many are in an order? I stated just bring my wife and I 4 flour. Our friend received 4 as well. Sitting there I kept thinking they are gonna charge us for tortillas. I just knew it. Food was excellent. Always is. This 2 star (downgraded) review is solely for exceptionally bad service and you guessed it. Charging for tortillas (that were actually sub par). Look at my receipt. No queso. I asked if they had queso and they gave me a funny look. My family and I used to like this place. The last two times we ate there they completely doubled our bill. Prices on menu are not up to date with what you will be charged. When we received our receipt we were charged double. I asked to speak to the manager Elisabeth and she was so rude and unprofessional. She said too bad that's what the prices are now. This has happened in two locations. They are charging you $45 for a ribeye and the menu says $22.99 are you kidding me and $14 for a kids lemonade. Trust me it's not worth it. Go somewhere else.
