The ONLY thing that keeps me from giving them 5 stars is the size of the place (not their fault, I know). But it's kinda tiny and there aren't always enough tables if you want to stay. I wish this place had a better atmosphere. The food is good. The carnitas taco salad I had was delicious! They know how to get the pork flavor just right. There were six in our group and we were all pleased with the quality of food and the lovely waitress that took care of us. The restaurant has an echo that makes the music and other people talking so overwhelming that I was uncomfortable. My mother has hearing aids and I'm sure the noise was unpleasant for her. It's hard to find nice places to eat in that town so it would be nice to find a place I would go to more than once. Next time I will order out. read more

I come to San Andreas from time to time and let me tell you El Mezcal is a must !! The have the best refried beans and rice this side of the Mexican border Chile Colorado one of my favorites!! Not to mention there aguas frescas (flavored drinks) . Exceptional customer service. Gracias! read more

For most dishes, this restaurant ranks no higher than a 3. The service is super friendly and the portions generous, but the food tends to be poorly executed and doesn't have the freshness and pizazz I associate with good Mexican food. HOWEVER, I found a sleeper on the menu that really surprised: the shrimp cocktail. As some of you may know, Mexican shrimp cocktail is more of a cold shrimp soup, a gazpacho--not the half dozen prawns with cocktail sauce you get at American seafood restaurants. And, let me tell you, this Mexican shrimp cocktail did not disappoint. Huge bowl of lime-spiked cold soup with tons of shrimp, fresh chopped peppers, onions, cucumbers, avocado, jalapeños, and cilantro. This seriously fresh, tangy, healthy surprise earns Mezcal an additional star. It's a worth-the-price must-try for lunch on a hot day. read more

I've eaten here four times in the past six months. Each time I ordered something different, each time I was disappointed. The fajitas are the best thing I've tried, but they were just OK. When I ordered anything with chicken, I had to pick out gristle... Isn't the cook supposed to do that? I went here with 2 gal friends and I ordered the chicken super quesidilla with no guac. It was delicious as always! not over cooked or dried out. It was definitely fresh and juicy. This is my go to mexican place. My friend ordered a quesidilla suiza and beef nachos for us to share. The portions were big enough for all 3 of us to share the nachos, which the chips are home made, not store bought. And the other friend ordered 3 small tacos, which were too spicy for her but she can't do spices very well, she said it was good still. All in all for what we paid for the freshness and quickness of the food, it was delicious and i will be back to try more items on the menu. read more

We live in Angels Camp but had to make a trip to the DMV in San Andreas yesterday. Planned on eating at the Pickle Patch, which is the ONLY place we will eat when San Andreas because it is so good, but it was closed for the day. I searched on Yelp to see what else was in the area and saw that El Mezcal had great reviews, so we thought we would give it a try. Not much to look at from the outside, but OMG, so glad we tried it! Our waitress was very sweet and speedy, the place was very clean but the food was AMAZING!! I ordered the Carne Asada Super Taco (just $2.50) and the Shrimp Tostada (just $3.95) . Both were very fresh, tasty and full of delicious ingredients. My hubby ordered the wet burrito and it was HUGE. He said it was excellent as well. Their complimentary chips and salsa (2 kinds) were so good. We also ordered a side of Guacamole and the waitress brought us out 2 kinds, chunky and freshly made and a creamier kind, almost like a gazpacho. AND she didn't even charge us for them. I had a Mandarin Jarritos to drink, but my hubby ordered the fresh brewed ice tea and it was brought out in the biggest mug I have ever seen! We will definitely return, as the Mexican place we have in Angels is ok, but this place is so worth driving the extra 15 minutes! And our delicious lunch for 2 was less than $20! Worth noting: this place is open from 9-8 EVERY DAY of the week, which is hard to find in this area. read more
