I've had El Mofongo bookmarked since I moved to Jacksonville but I hadn't stopped by until I recently found myself on that side of town. My husband loves mofongo, so much so that we had it as part of our wedding reception menu. Needless to say, he was thrilled to see that Jacksonville was cooking up Puerto Rican food. We ordered mofongo de chuleta and mofongo de bistec, along with the tres leches cake and a couple of agua frescas. They were out of the Dominican cake. Our to-go order took about 20 minutes to make, I'm assuming because the mofongo was made fresh as the meats were on display on the buffet up front. My mixed jamaica and pina agua fresca was sweet and delicious. I would recommend one of those flavors over the mango, which was a bit tart. When we got home, we opened the containers to find our meats, mofongo, and a small simple salad. The star of the plate was certainly the mofongo, with a huge serving placed in the middle of the container. Three very thin pieces of steak were served and two pork chops on the other plate. We were so excited to taste the mofongo and while it did have some flavor, it was very dry and challenging to eat, particularly when paired with the chewy unseasoned steak. The pork chops fared a little better. Perhaps our expectations were too high but this was a disappointing meal for us.

This is why I like Yelp. Looking for a spot for lunch and mofongos came up. Looking at the reviews and had to try it. Small mom and pop place in strip mall. Mofongos is a Cuban and Dominican republic restuarant. I love Cuban sandwiches and I ordered one. Oh wow this is most authentic Cuban sandwich ever. So very good Candyce tried the roast with the rice with chick peas, plantains and bread. I tried all of it, plantains good love those, flavorful rice and the pork was super tender and flavorful. The people that work there were very helpful on what to order or try. This is why I'm giving it 5 stars. Great food and helpful staff. From the constant flow of people coming thru, it is a well liked local place.

I come here for their cheese rolls, guava pastries, guava and cheese rolls and savory filled pastries. All of them can be eaten with my hands and no utensils are needed; however, they are flaky and crumbly so a plate and napkins are recommended. They are perfect to reheat at home. The owner is super friendly and El Mofongo has a huge following especially for their Dominican/Cuban coffee in the morning. I witnessed dozens of people come in just for the coffee. It's definitely different. I have yet to try their Cuban sandwich and regular Latin dishes, but it is for sure on my list to come back in and sample their offerings. Really good stuff....

Thrilled to see they've reopened after temporarily closing because of COVID. I ordered my usual mofongo with shrimp and rice with pigeon peas. The inside has been remodeled with counter height tables and seating. The owner, friendly as ever, confirmed they opened two weeks ago. My meal was as delicious as my first visit a few months ago. The small mountain of mofongo atop a discreetly hidden pile of shrimp held up well on the ride home. I forgot to request extra sauce because it's really good! Again, I'm stuffed. It easily came with enough for a couple or few meals. My next visit, I want to try the pernil (roast Puerto Rican pork). So pleased to see El Mofongo is better than ever.

Mofongo is a Puerto Rican dish with fried plantains as a main ingredient so the name of the place states it all. You can have a Dominican style breakfast with items like Yucca or plantains. I enjoy their daily made empanadas and ham croquets. I stop by on Sat mornings for fresh pastries with Guava and cheese in them. They have a great bakery for those special occasion cakes also, my favorite is the Tres Leches Cake. mmmmmmmmm They are really affordable and so family friendly. They offer daily specials and a great priced buffet! You probably have passed them by and not even noticed a great "Jem" of Jacksonville. So Bookmark!

Well, I don't have anymore photos to add because I ate it all before I remembered to take them! Boo! But, on the plus side of this phototastrophe, I'm hitting this place up again. Talk about good food, OMG. The pastry was so melt in your mouth, I could literally make myself larger eating too many of these, what an addiction this could be. The stewed chicken with rice, black beans and sweet plantains all so delicious. The man at the counter so courteous and friendly, he took the time to answer all my husband's questions. Speaking of husband, he got the ribs and they were amazing along with rice, beans and plantains. This is now on our list of go to places for Puerto Rican food. Next time I'm getting the Picadillo! Btw, they were not busy when we stopped at 10 am, good time to beat the crowd. Our whole order was boxed up within 5 minutes!

Don't let the emptiness of the restaurant fool you. They were busy with a steady stream of phone orders and to go pick ups. Everyone was friendly. Restaurant/bathrooms were clean. We got the beef empanada, and the breakfast plate with eggs, ham, and Cuban bread. It was all delicious. We also got the mango juice and tamarind juice. It was super refreshing. I would definitely recommend this spot.

Woooowie! Talk about good old fashion home cooked Spanish food! I have been getting my fix at this place for about ten years now. I've seen them grow into a wonderful establishment! If you are looking for Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican flavors this is the place! Those Latin flavors will keep you coming back for more. So today I ordered the Roasted pork combo which brings a side of rice, I chose Arroz con Gandules (pigeon peas and rice)my fave, the pork was moist and packed with garlic flavors, and a side of sweet plantains. We also have a steak Mofongo, a ball of fried plantains not sweet though topped with thin steak, onions, peppers, sitting on top of lettuce and tomatoes. Prices are great they usually have one combo meal on sale daily. Take out or casual dine in you won't be disappointed!

This hidden gem has been on my radar for a while. Finally got the chance to try them for lunch with a friend of mine. I ordered roast pork and side of ribs because I wanted more meat. I chose yellow rice, reds beans, & plantains included as well. Once order placed we grab a seat while we seated for our food to come. Food arrived & I was surprised the amount of food I got also we got Cuban bread that was buttered up to. I dive first into the roast pork which succulent packed with flavors. Yellow rice moist, my favorite was the red beans the flavors in that was so delicious I took the Cuban bread stuffed it with the roast pork and dipped into that red bean liquid deliciousness. The ribs was ok flavors was there but wished it was more tender. Overall I really enjoyed it & will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

I really wanted to like this place but it wasn't as good I was expecting. First, the mangu didn't have any flavor. Any basic recipes call for some type of seasoning. Then the mofongo did have a really good taste. But if you are serving chicken ' don't give out just bone, would be recommended to serve chicken breast. So disappointed in this place.

Since I've been working from home for the most part, I've ordered from here pretty much every Friday due to the lunch special (roasted pork) and $5.99 is a deal. Well - They stopped doing the lunch special because of the pandemic and I thought with a dinner portion for lunch I can have a little bit for leftovers. I called my order in like usual and arrived and had to wait outside. I paid about $3.50 more which I though wasn't too bad. When I got home and opened the bag, I got the exact same portion as if I purchased the lunch special, that my friend is a total rip off and there's another Latin restaurant down the street or another within 2 miles that will give you double the meat along with a salad for the same price. Won't be coming back for anything other than the lunch special.

Cuban sandwiches are to die for. Very simple, very delicious! My mom has been going forever & I finally went & tried it out myself, wasn't disappointed at all. They have delicious sandwiches, deserts, & the staff is so nice. Definitely a hole in the wall, so worth it. Bonus: Bathrooms we're IMMACULATE & SQUEAKY CLEAN. Just a cherry on top! read more

There are better choices for Hispanic food around. I have tried this place like three times and the food is pretty much standard, nothing great about it. If you just want to do a lunch special which the price is excellent, this will be a go for you. read more

Tried El Mofongo for the first time today. Ordered my food to go and my order consisted of the Shrimp Mofongo and a Cubano Especial. The food was very yummy and the Cuban sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. The bread for it was perfect. The shrimp Mofongo was tasty but could've used more salt or other seasonings. However it too was delicious. The service was ok, not overly welcoming but polite. Being my first time it would've been nice to be notified how long my order was going to take. Now that I know I'll be better prepared for the next time. I do intend on coming back for more. Over all a good experience and very yummy food read more

I give this place 8 stars. My husband and I haven't had great spanish food like this since we left Pennsylvania and we cannot stop smiling. The owner himself was simply amazing and made us feel very welcomed. The Mofongo was cooked just the way we loved it . You can truly taste the love in their food. Now Friends! ... If You Know The Hispanic Caribbean Cucine You Will Love This Place. Daily Fresh Cook Meals... Wether is White, Yellow, Brown Rice With Red or Black Beans, Soup, Pull Pork, ... etc.. It Is Going To Be Just Amazing. I tried the famous Tostonwich, my wife went we the Baked Chicken, our son took the Pork Chops, and our daughter in law finally chose Ribs with Yellow Rice and Red Beans.... No Left Overs. Had the daily lunch special Tuesday is chicken and rice with your choice of beans and plantains. The seasoning is so good and you get a ton of food for your money. The service is exceptional...you order at the counter but they really make you feel welcome!!! Don't speak Spanish don't worry...new to the flavors don't be afraid to ck it out... They are bilingual and can offer suggestions and recommendations to meet your cravings... Also they have fresh baked goods... Coconut macaroons were calling out to me but that will be my treat for next visit. The atmosphere is Cute and quaint. But clean and casual. read more

Nothing fancy but I wasn't looking for fancy. I don't like Cuban sandwiches so I ordered a Cuban sandwich. Just something I've been doing lately. The bread was crunchy and soft, not dried out like I've had at other places. The pork, wow, the pork was delicious. That's what I was really craving was some sort of mojo pork. I don't know what they did to this pork but please don't stop. It's very quiet for 12 pm lunch but it is the week between Christmas and New Years. The patrons who were eating were of Latin descent, which is always a good sign. I stopped eating to write this review because I knew if I didn't then I wouldn't and this place deserves an awesome review. read more

My business partner and I were in Florida, and to us the only good thing about FL is the Cuban food. When we arrived, the staff was nothing but smiles. My first visit to El Mofongo was excellent. Having recently started a new job, I was invited to this restaurant for lunch with co-workers, and prior to then, I had never heard about this place. I'm so glad I was introduced to this restaurant because the food was delicious and the staff was extremely friendly. I had the roast pork special, and it came with a side of beans, plantains, bread, and yellow rice. My boss insisted on paying so I can't help in terms of price, but the food was amazing. The portions were big so I had leftovers to take home. El Mofongo definitely isn't fancy, but don't let that deter you. Being that El Mofongo is less than a mile from my new job I know I will be back at least once a week for their delicious food! read more

We lucked up on this place when we took our defective Comcast modem to the store near there. We were going to look for a place to eat, and saw it and thought we'd give it a try. I like the way they have some of their foods displayed in a case so you can see what you're getting. I ordered the roasted pork, rice and pidgeon peas and plantains. What an amazing flavor that I remember as a child when we lived in Puerto Rico. They have an unusual hot sauce on the table that goes well on the rice. My husband had the cuban sandwich which he also liked. In fact, he liked it so much, he wanted to try the shredded flank steak the next day with black beans and rice. Also totally good. They also have a bakery there too. We were glad to have found this place since I'm not a mexican fan. They are so friendly and really make you feel welcome. We'll go back for sure! read more

I ate dinner here yesterday after reading the many positive reviews. I was Not disappointed. The owner was very friendly. The Cubano Especial and Empanadas were great. The fried sweet plantains were by far the best I've had. So flavorful. Also, they make their own hot sauce. The food certainly did not need the addition of hot sauce as it was great without it. However, the sauce had such a unique and fantastic flavor that I ended up adding quite a bit as I kept wanting more. Next time I am in town, I will definitely be returning here for another great meal! read more

Terrible Terrible Terrible the yellow rice was burnt like they mixed in the rice that was stuck to the bottom of the pan and the steak had no authentic flavor. My Wife had the Cuban mix and said is was the worst she ever had, because it tasted like bologne. The guava and cheese pastelito seemed good at first it was crispy and warm but it left a terrible after taste in my mouth. I wish I could find a Cuban restaurant in North Florida that can compare to South Florida. read more

I love this place, the customer service is excellent, the guy who runs the place is always super friendly, happy, and you would never know if he was having a bad day. The food is great, its the closes thing to authentic cuban, dominican and puertorican food you can find in all of Orange Park, maybe even all of Jacksonville. It's like having my grandma cook for me, I love it :) I will drive all the way from Fleming Island for a Cuban Sandwich and a Malta, Publix only wishes it can make as good a Cuban sandwich as this place! It may not be the fanciest place, but these people make it feel like home. If you like rice and beans, emapandas, rellenos, pernil, (roast pork) and any other Caribbean food, GO EAT AT EL MOFONFO, you'll be glad you did! read more

It is not a huge market by any means, but if you are in the Oalm Coast area by Interstate 95 and looking for a market with an emphasis on Latin food, Amigos Supermarket can save you from having to take a trip further to get your Latin food needs. Inside the building was clean and neat but there weren't a lot of tables set up for restaurant style seating. They have high tables with chairs but I think they only had three tables so this is more of a take and go kind of spot. The lady who took my order was kind and very patient while my indecisive self decided what I wanted to try. Everything was delicious. The meal came with some kind of sauce that Im assuming went with the rice but I didn't even use because it was perfect without it. The lamb chops were tender and full of flavor. The Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were on point as well. The meal was $47! Which definitely seems like a lot but for the amount of food and the quality, I would say it's worth it. There is enough food to eat the meal for two days or split it between two people. Of course I would like to pay less but I also believe it was worth every penny. I will be back again, just more prepared to spend that kind of money. The next time Im craving lamb chops, this will definitely be my go to!

The store was bright with neon lights and it looked inviting and very clean. Desserts such as cupcakes, cake slices, cookies and mini sweet potato pies were lined up neatly along the counter, and the temperature regulated case up front had salted caramel, red velvet, and french vanilla cheesecakes; banana pudding; and strawberry yum yum cake. Red velvet is one of my favorite flavors and that's usually my "go to" cupcake when I try a new place. But, that red velvet cheesecake was calling my name! I got a slice of that and then I couldn't resist getting a piece of the honeybun cake. After taking one bite of each cake, it was clear to me that they know how to make incredible cake! The red velvet cheesecake had a light and soft layer of cheesecake nestled between two moist pieces of red velvet cake that boasted a beautiful cocoa flavor. And while the honeybun cake reminded me more of a coffee cake than a honeybun, it was full of cinnamon, glazed, and delicious nonetheless. Open since the Summer of 2020, Deloozeycakes has rotating cake flavors and even spirit infused cupcakes. I definitely loved the cakes that I tried but I thought the prices were a little steep. At $8 for the cheesecake and $5 for the honeybun cake, I was surprised by the portion size, particularly for the honeybun cake. But, with that said, the next time I am back in The Avenues Mall, I will also be back at Deloozeycakes!

Man, this little diner ROCKS! I stopped through totally on accident and now I can't get enough of the place. It's just off of Wesconnet and 103rd St. going towards Roosevelt. They not only make the world's best Cuban sandwiches, the daily specials are absolutely to die for! I just took my boyfriend and best friend with me this weekend and was blown away yet again but food I can't pronounce but wouldn't want to anyway, since it's not polite to talk with your mouth full.
