I've been to Salento twice now, so I feel like I got a good sense of what they have to offer. I started with the carne empanadas, which came with complimentary chimichurri and hot sauce. They were crispy on the outside, warm on the inside, and filled with flavorful meat. The sauces paired perfectly with them and made an already great appetizer even better. For my entrée, I ordered the Bandeja Paisa, and it did not disappoint. The meats were the star of the plate. Everything was juicy, cooked perfectly, and seasoned just enough without being overpowering. The steak was surprisingly tender despite being well done, with just the right amount of fat. The sausage had a great snap, the egg was perfectly jammy, and the chicharrón was absolutely incredible--crispy, crunchy, and easily one of the best I've had. I didn't try the sweet plantains since I'm not a fan and they couldn't be substituted. The arepa was good, although nothing particularly memorable. The only parts of the meal I wasn't impressed with were the rice, which was a bit too salty for my taste, and the beans, which lacked flavor and were underwhelming. For dessert, I tried both the tiramisu and the chocolate cake. The tiramisu was just okay--it wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out, and I wouldn't order it again. The chocolate cake, however, was outstanding. It was incredibly moist, rich without being overly sweet, and the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, Salento does an amazing job with their meats, and that's what I'd recommend most. While a couple of the sides and one dessert didn't quite hit the mark for me, the empanadas, Bandeja Paisa, chicharrón, and chocolate cake were all excellent. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. The environment is pretty nice and quiet. read more

This is one of the top steak restaurants we have ever visited. When eating high fat or high protein this place is a great fit. The staff was very helpful and helped us choose items from the menu. The inside was busy and we sat at a booth. We were glad we made reservations as without them a seat might have been a challenge. The food was so good. The pork belly was shocking good. The rest of the food was very good and for steaks and meats we enjoyed them. This was our first Columbian steakhouse so we have no others to compare it with. We will visit them again. read more

Our friend from Jacksonville introduced us to Salento Colombian Steakhouse, and I'm so glad they did. The food was outstanding, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere felt very welcoming and family-oriented. The fresh juices were my favorite--so refreshing and instantly reminded me of my travels to Colombia and Ecuador. My aunt and uncle and I came here for dinner tonight. It's been quite a while since I've been here. I completely forgot how ginormous the chicken breast was! It's like four huge breast combined as one. The flavor of the chicken was great and I really loved the vegetable kebab. The salad was fresh and the salmon was a little dry, but tasted OK he said. We had a wonderful server who had a gentle smile and was very pleasant. The restaurant was very busy but very home like feeling, which is a great ambience for Friday night. I ordered a papaya drink, very fresh, an appetizer of fried plantain with cheese and guava sauce, and a marina combination for the entree which came with a tilapia filet, 4 shrimp, salmon, and 2 vegetable skewers. The plantain with cheese and guava sauce was new and surprisingly tasty. That's a first for me and I'd definitely enjoy it again. The entree looked great and had minimal seasoning. I added the sauces to add flavor and heat. All in all, it was too much in one sitting so I took it home. The moment that I opened the door and walked into Salento, I knew I'd made an excellent choice. You probably would not expect to find such a charming restaurant located within a typical shopping plaza. I loved the entire vibe from the decor to the staff's gaucho uniforms and the friendly welcome I received as I entered. My server Diana was amazing. She immediately brought me some mint water to enjoy while I browsed the gorgeous menu (had to get a pic of it). I decided on the 8oz Flat Steak with corn cake, fried potatoes, & green plantains as my three sides. My steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the sides were delicious too. Especially the potatoes- I'm not sure how the skins were still intact considering how soft the inside was of each potato. I love Colombian coffee so I had to order a cafe con leche to enjoy with the meal. I drink iced coffee 99% of the time, but I could not resist & it was worth it. I even loved the mug so much that I bought one to bring home. This was the best meal I've had in ages! I can't wait to return or possibly check out their second location in Silverleaf. read more

The food here is so fresh, clean and has so much flavor! The guacamole was well seasoned and very creamy. The food was not overly seasoned, they are very light on the salt, which i appreciate! The chicken was nicely grilled and tender. The bandeja paisa was very complete and the serving was big! The only thing i did not like was their flan, it was overcooked, it had a curdled texture, the sugar was burnt, and the flan had a crust on it which is most likely from being overcooked. The ambience was very nice, they had good music and i really liked the staff's uniform. Service was a 3/5, our server started off great and then she went missing for a good hour, the host had to help us out by giving us to go containers and had to call our server so she could give us the check. I have been to this location a few times before. I decided to go here for lunch yesterday. Parking was slightly difficult to find being that it's a shared parking lot. In after having to wait a couple of minutes, I did manage to find an available parking spot. The service was very good that day, and the restaurant was slightly crowded as well. For lunch I decided to order their yellow rice with shrimps and fried green plantains to accompany the meal. It also came with a tiny salad as well, which was fresh and very good too. A spur of the moment decision to eat at this tucked away restaurant was quite a delight. Walked in on a Friday night and was seated quickly. Our waiter, Cesar, was prompt and attentive. The menu is extensive but he helped to explain the details. We ordered empanadas and we're given the ability to choose 2 different types - went with Hawaiian and beef. Took a few minutes but were hot and delicious when they arrived. For mains, I chose Bandeja Paisa and my husband chose the butterfly NY strip. We both got red beans and rice as sides. I'm used to a little more spice in the red beans I like (but those are Cajun so understandable), but these were very well cooked and delicious in a different way. Excellent! Did not expect to find a superb steakhouse in a strip mall. This is an absolute must-try. They are a little different if you are unfamiliar with South American steakhouses. They have skirt steak and short ribs on the menu, which are not generally found at an American steakhouse. Some of the cuts are similar to those in America, but are served and prepared differently. Finally made it to Salento and let me tell you this trip was 5 years in the making. We came in with friends as a party of 4 on a Saturday night (yes of course we planned ahead and made a reservation) . No issue getting our table and once seated y'all know it's app time. We went with the Columbian Empanadas since I haven't had any in a while and they were great. I also had their Colombian house beer, Bud Light never had a chance. So after looking over the menu with a party of 4 we decided that the Salento House was the best move since it was all our first time. Let me tell you... This is the first timer move. You get a taste of everything, steak, pork ribs, chicken, Colombian Sausage. Salento Sausage, blood sausage, pork rind and grilled pineapple and comes with four (4) sides all for only $96. All the sides and meat were very god and this is prefect for a 4 person party. The only reason I can't do 5 stars is because the Carne Asada which we asked for medium rare was medium well but mostly well done. I know it's a thinner steak but still. I know I will be back because we had a great time and great Colombian beers. Next time I'm getting a Ribeye and I can't wait. read more

Five stars for the meat all around here! We had a wonderful early dinner at Salento and we beat the dinner rush that started to arrive as we were leaving. The place is small, but ample enough to get the ambience that they're going for. We split the skirt steak, Colombian burger, and shrimp arepa. The steak came with two sides and we chose a salad and plantain. The steak was excellent. It was so flavorful, moist, and cooked perfectly. The salad was basically lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and shaved carrots. It was lacking in terms of being able to stand up to the steak. There was a large piece of plantain that was grilled, which was a nice presentation. The burger was equally as good. It had some unusual seasonings in it, which worked very well together and the pineapple on top was an added bonus. It is clear that the meats are the thing to get here. The shrimp arepa was underseasoned and not something I would order again. Service here was OK. They seemed a little short staffed as the bartender ended up waiting on our table. Then apparently, something happened to our food in the kitchen, and they had to restart the order. So there was a bit of a delay. I would've thought that maybe they would've brought out something complimentary as we waited but they didn't. We were patient though and the food turned out well.
