5 Stars - El Molcajete is a Hidden Gem! We had an excellent experience at El Molcajete and can't recommend it enough. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Alejandra in particular was amazing -- she made us feel right at home and took great care of us. The restaurant itself is spotless. You'd swear it was brand new. The booths are comfortable, the custom chairs are a nice touch, and it's clear the owners take real pride in the place. Everything feels fresh, clean, and thoughtfully put together. The salsa and chips were on point -- perfectly seasoned and addictive. I tried pozole for the first time, and it absolutely did not disappoint. The broth was rich and flavorful, the pork was tender, and the hominy was cooked perfectly. My wife ordered her go-to Enchiladas Suizas and said they were very good -- she was impressed. I went with the Chile Verde Burrito and a beef taco. Both were tasty, well-seasoned, and satisfying. I left feeling full and happy. This is a proper, quality Mexican restaurant with great staff and amazing food. Places like this set the bar high -- other restaurants should definitely take notes! We'll be back soon. read more

Good food. A little too saucy for my taste. Servers are so great and accommodating. They are very helpful with the vast menu. I wished they'd had tequila for their yummy margaritas. That would boot sales and be more inclusive for their customers who imbibe. read more

My husband and I tried El Molcajete for lunch and we enjoyed it! The place is super clean and I loved the decorations - so colorful and inviting! Our server was super kind and helpful as well and the menu has a lot of options! Now, the food! If anyone doesn't give this 5 stars they have no idea what good Mexican food is and they must have never traveled anywhere else and had good Mexican food. This place is awesome and starts with great salsa which is always the first sign of a good Mexican place. The birria tacos are great, and taste as they should if you know what good birria should taste like. If not this is where you should go to find out. And the have Coke, which means since Coke costs them more than Pepsi they are more concerned with quality over cost. Super good customer service as well. read more

I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant so I went out with my family. It was a Saturday evening and we got sat down right away. I was surprised there weren't very many people there but it was a little early for dinner. We had a hard time ordering because both people trying to help us didn't understand us very well. Which I do understand can be hard for them but it was also kind of frustrating because my son is almost 14 and didn't want to order a kid's meal but that's what they had him order even though he wanted a regular size meal even though we tried to explain. I felt rushed to order even though I wasn't ready. The chips were pretty good and the salsa was really great although a little runny. The food came out pretty quick. I was a little disappointed, it was good but not amazing. The cheese in the cheese enchilada was not melted. I did like the sauce on it. Everything tasted pretty good but it definitely could have been a little bit tastier. Everyone was really nice. But it wasn't my favorite Mexican restaurant experience. Oh, also I didn't like they had a TV playing with really old Mexican music videos and I felt like it was too scandalous for kids and I myself didn't really like it because it was so cheesy and outdated. Came on a Saturday night for dinner and we were seated right away. Our server was excellent, provided great recommendations, and seemed to really appreciate his job. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were served warm and had a nice seasoning on them. I loved the salsa and the freshness of the onion and cilantro! Our server recommended the Suizas chicken enchiladas and the chimichanga. I ordered the enchiladas and my husband ordered the carne asada chimichanga. The food came out fairly fast! I was definitely impressed with the enchiladas. They were packed full of chicken! The corn tortillas and the sauce went together so well. The green sauce was extremely flavorful-I really enjoyed it. The beans were pretty authentic and tasty. I thought they were great. My husband said his chimichanga was the best he's ever had at a restaurant. I tried it and it was delicious. The meat was tender and very flavorful. Overall, wonderful experience and delicious food. So glad this restaurant is in the valley! It all tasted really fresh and authentic. All of it was excellent! The rice was really moist and fluffy and full of flavor. The Chimichanga was also very delicious with tender, juicy meat. Horchata was very yummy, not too rich, just right! For a Mexican joint it has everything I crave- gooooood Diet Coke- check. Comfortable bulky chairs- check. Chips and salsa- check. Yellow walls glittered with Hispanic influence- check! On top of all the little checks the food was fantastic. I ordered the Enchilada plate- flavors were delicious. My only complaint with the food- my tortillas were a little hard- maybe slightly stale? Just about your average Mexican restaurant in Utah! The chips come out hot and yummy and the salsa was good. The menu is huge and can be pretty overwhelming, so we went with a few variety dishes. Our favorites by far were the beef taco and the chicken tamale. Although the meat on everything was just a little dry, the tamale and tortillas were cooked super well! The rice and beans are exactly what you'd expect at a place like this. The chicken floutas and beef enchilada we didn't really care for. It looks like the restaurant might be family owned because we had a few people waiting on our table including kids. I think the service could have been a bit more warm and friendly. When we asked what was recommended, our waitress didn't know what to tell us. I don't think we'll be back any time soon because we weren't super impressed by anything, but I think improvements to service and a skinnied down menu of the best dishes could do this restaurant a lot of good! read more

This was great! We went at a non peak time but they have plenty of seating to accomadate a lot of people and loved the feel of the restaurant. Staff was super friendly and made us feel welcome. Waiter helped us pick out a couple of favorite dishes to try and it was all super good and decently priced! I got the chimichanha with their green tomatillo sauce and it had a different but good sweet taste to it that I just loved. Bad service, mediocre food. After sitting for 20 minutes, I finally had to go find a waiter to take our order. The food was mediocre. For example, the Fajitas were sautéed chicken, onion & pepper (the peppers weren't cored), flavored with salt & pepper, maybe, but no spices.
