If I were judging La Costa in American Fork solely on food, I would probably be more generous and give it 4 stars but the whole bad experience was with our server Rebekah who took 10 minutes before coming to our table and all 4 of us just ordered waters which she brought 5 mins later with no ice in them and they weren't very cold, then we had to ask her for chips and salsa, we drank all of our water and I've been a server before and u notice when waters are empty, she never refilled them. On the bright side, the food came pretty quick and was pretty good but the whole experience was aweful due to poor service. I've eaten at the la Costa in sandy several times and had great experiences but I would really avoid American fork location. I have been to the Sandy location tons of times and it's great and so good! I came to the American Fork location and didn't have a good experience. She asked what we wanted to drink. We just got water. It was me, my dad, my 3 year old daughter and 4 year old nephew. She brought us water without ice and it wasn't very cold. She didn't even give the kids small kid waters with lids. She brought them the same size water as me and my dad. The other tables with a different waitress, they had ice in their waters. We also had to ask for chips and salsa. She didn't just automatically bring it. I've never been to a Mexican restaurant where you need to ask for chips and salsa. They should automatically bring it quick. It took a while for her to come back and take our order. The food was good and the portions were very filling. She also never refilled our waters. Oh my gosh, this place is so good. They start you off with chips and some amazing salsa but then also bring out a bean dip which is delicious. Then onto the main course. They're Carne Asada is what they're known for and it's some of the best Carne Asada I've ever had. I also got a green chili cheese enchilada, and it doesn't look awesome but they put that elastic cheese in the middle and it's very very good. I'll be coming here a lot. read more

Had a nice experience tonight for dinner. Service was great! Chips and salsa were good. The bean dip was overly salty unfortunately. My husband enjoyed his burrito supreme. It was huge! The steak was seasoned well and very good in the burrito. I had the suiza enchiladas and they were good. The green enchilada sauce didn't have a ton of flavor but the chicken and pork made up for that. The chicken and pork was tender and they put a generous amount in the burrito. Food was very bland from the initial start, salsa had no flavor and was very blah. We hoped that our dinner would have more hope but to no avail. The fajitas were very well done and had zero taste at all (I was almost ready to ask for some ketchup to add flavor, it was that bad). The tacos were very dry and lacked in flavor as well. We have been coming here for a few years and this was very disappointing, service was slow due to the fact that they had a large party that showed up but at least drop by for a quick check in not just twice for the whole meal. One thing that was also a turn off was the cilantro and onions for the tacos were served in an ashtray, I was going to grab a photo but they took my plate away too fast (an ashtray... yuck). Yesterday I ate here with my two sons , my daughter and her husband. We ordered 2 carne asada lunches ( 8 oz) taco / enchilada combo , chimichanga meal and enchilada meal. The carne asada was overcooked, over 1/3 of them were so dry you could not eat them , the taco shell was soggy and the beans were placed too long under the heater . They were dry on the plate. When you walk into a Mexican restaurant and see a five year-old doing homework at one of the side tables you know your food is about to be amazing and they did not disappoint. We had their signature burrito their chips and guac their beans and salsa. And it was all phenomenal. We will absolutely be coming back many times over. This is a very mixed review since I was extremely happy with the Mole Poblano! It brought back memories of living in South Texas. The staff was accomadating in letting me try the sauce before ordering it. The meal itself was delicious, but overall we might not go back. Staff was very slow even though the place appeared to be only half full. My wife's order was wrong, but we didn't realize until she tried her second enchilada and everyone else was about done. Then probably my gripe with almost all Mexican places lately in that a meal of chicken, rice, beans, and some small tortillas was almost $20 a plate. So I have been meaning to get to this restaurant for a minute, but I have my usual go to spots. The place is nice and clean and servers are friendly. After getting seated, we received chips, a delicious salsa, and a bowl of refried beans. Honestly, this was the best part of my meal. The chips were great and I enjoyed mixing the beans and salsa together. This was a first for me and next time I'm just going to mix them up in the beginning. My wife ordered the chicken quesadilla and I ordered a combo with a shredded beef chimichanga and a pork soft shell taco. The meat inside the chimi was great but that was as far as it went. The same with the taco. The chimi was lightly smothered, but I wasn't sure how it came and that's how. It had light cheese on top. So pretty plain actually. There was rice and beans which were good. The plate was missing sour cream and guacamole whic other restaurants give you. The food for me was three stars but the server brought it up to me. My wife's chicken quesadilla was huge and full of meat and below average cheese. That's all it was. This did come with guac and sour cream. We have been going to La Costa since this location opened. Unfortunately the owners have changed and so has the quality. We all got very sick after eating there a couple weeks ago. I tried contacting the manager and they said no one has ever complained about being sick. I just read a review and someone got sick around the same time my family did. So I've seen this place for a while and just never tried. Well today me and my beautiful wife did and we weren't disappointed. The place is nice a clean and the decor is awesome. Hostess was very polite and we where greeted with a smile. We had a wait which as to talking to a few people usually wasn't the case, but it was fine. We seated promptly when it was our turn and chips and salsa with bean dip where there at our table! I could've just ate the chips and bean dip. Our server Frank was on top of it head our drinks and was very polite. For my wife and I order quickly. Less then 15 mins our food was out and piping hot to with it. There is so many Mexican restaurants to choose from in the area. It's a battle to stand out and be a truly wonderful Mexican restaurant, yet La Costa is doing so well with this! Some friends and I had a meeting in Orem and then were deciding where to eat. We chose La Costa, as a few of the members tagging along for dinner, had already been to La Costa and loved it. When we arrived, the parking lot was packed. As Gen Z would say, the place was poppin'. We were still able to find parking as the lot had plenty of room, you could just tell there was quite a few people in the restaurant. We got seated immediately, which was pretty nice considering there was 5 of us on a Friday night. It took us a while to decide what to get just because of the array of options. In the meantime, we got some peculiar (good) salsa, and bean dip with chips. The salsa was not your typical salsa because I think it was made with different tomatoes than pico de Gallo or your usual salsa would have. Most of the people in our party got burritos, one person got a salad, and I got the enchilada/taco combo. I thought about getting the fajitas as those looked amazing, but decided to stick with my combo meal instead. I will say, everything came out pretty dang fast; I was impressed. The food was great, the service was great, and it was super filling. As an added bonus, one of the servers overheard that we had a birthday so they came over with a sombrero and some instruments and sang us a little tune! Tried it two times. Loved it two times. The place is a little unassuming. Kind of quaint yet I wouldn't be surprised if a mariachi band popped out on a Sunday afternoon. They get an A plus on service. Everyone here is nice, attentive and welcoming. The meal starts off great. They serve up some homemade chips that go well with the spicy salsa and refried beans. I order the shredded beef flautas and they come out real quick. Nice and hot and crispy. Loved a second chance at the beans and I also got a nice serving of rice. I cleaned this plate off and went back to the chips. One last thing to add. I stopped here on my lunch break and was in and out in 30 minutes. My husband and I recently moved in nearby and I decided to order some steak/chicken fajitas to go for us to share. I was pleasantly surprised by how much came in this 20 dollar meal! For take out they included some chips and salsa which we loved! It came with tons of beans, rice and fed each of us twice! I usually don't like steak fajitas that much because it's too chewy but their steak was super tender. The employees were all extremely friendly/helpful when I came to pick it up and it was very busy! The restaurants seemed small but very cute! Our whole experience was beyond disappointing. This restaurant does not deserve to be open. We had a party of 4 adults... At the beginning of the meal before ordering, I gave the waitress 2 "customer appreciation complimentary meal vouchers". We ordered our food including an appetizer and dessert. The waitress was very nice but inefficient at best. We had to ask repeatedly for items and she would leave the table quickly before asking if anyone needed anything else, so we had to get her attention constantly for things like napkins, refills, etc. The chicken burrito tasted like canned chicken and the red sauce was just tomato juice. The "shrimp and crab" chimichanga that I had was barely filled with tiny little baby shrimp the size of a pea and I didn't find a single piece of crab. Salsa had no flavor, the chile verde burrito had very little pork that also tasted canned. The jalapeño poppers we ordered as an appetizer (16$!) had a faint odor of stinky cheese. The dessert was basically a fried tortilla with chocolate sauce and whip cream. We didn't even complain, we just wanted to enjoy the night. However, the waitress brought the bill back and said they were refusing to honor the 2 meal vouchers because "ownership had changed". The vouchers had NO expiration date, no terms or conditions, and it's the same business. Remember- they were presented PRIOR to even ordering. I informed them that the vouchers had been given to us as trade for our business, which is completely unacceptable to deny. They didn't care, but sent out a tiny scoop of fried ice cream (after we had ordered a dessert and paid) which was more insulting than generous. We paid 150$ for the shittiest meal and experience we've ever had. I'm happy to post a photo of the receipt and the vouchers with no expiration or terms. This terrible restaurant and bad business ownership in our community is a shame. And it's not the waitresses fault, but she should find another job before this restaurant closes. Management, let's see if you have the integrity to respond to the reviews our whole party has left tonight here and on Google, and somehow make this right. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to this restaurant, but my husband recommended it because he was craving the salsa and bean dip they give you complimentary. That was the best part of my meal. I tried the fish tacos, but wasn't impressed because the fish was slightly bland and the taco shells were soggy sitting and stuck to the plate. The bean and rice were good, but no different from any other Mexican restaurant. Next time I'll try something that's more of a staple. My family has been going to La Costa for 20+ years, starting with their Sandy store in the early 2000's before they expanded to this American Fork location. Initially 4 stars but the original owners sold out and they have gone through many changes since, each time going downhill.
