I've been in this plaza many times but never tried this spot until recently. We went in looking for some food to bring to a potluck. I was a bit overwhelmed walking in because there aren't any labels or prices but you can just ask the workers if you do not know. The setup is similar to 85 bakery where you grab a tray and pick out your pastries with the tongs, then they calculate everything at the end. I've never had a concha before so not sure how they are supposed to taste or what the texture is supposed to be like. I got here at 8:20 pm after work and just wanted a strawberry/banana smoothie. The chubbier lady at the front with died blonde hair said they don't make anymore smoothies for the night. Apparently you can only get a smoothie till 6pm. That goes against their posted hours, and it would be nice to have this posted rather than have me drive all the way out here for no reason. I love going in for some pan dulce and champurrado. They also have breakfast tortas and freshly squeezed juices. Today I tried the chilaquiles and I wish I would've gotten a torta instead. From the service to the delectable breads and yummy salsa, this place has my heart. It was my first visit and is the first of many visits in my future. The selection of pan dulce was overwhelming! Beautiful crafted artisan breads and pastries! I also picked up chips, salsa and tortillas. The tortillas were warm, so fresh and delicious. El Molino de Oro is an absolute gem. They have incredible pan dulce and bolillo. Adittionally, we ordered our tamales here for Christmas for the first time! I would recommend ordering them at least a week before. The day of, there is a line to pick up and it is clearly the spot to order from. I saw many ordering masa for tamales, ordering huge orders for pick up, and getting pan dulce. We ordered 1 dozen green, 1 dozen red, and 1 dozen de rajas. They are huge tamales. I gotten my bread here for day of the dead and I was happy of the options they had. I also got to try there side cakes. I see it's pretty popular since I notice a lot of the bread went fast on this given day and it got me wondering how much more options are there that wasn't available. At last! I found a Mexican Bakery closer to home. Mexican sweet bread and bolillo are delicious. They have tortas, tacos, tamales, etc. It's very popular and busy. They also have birthday cakes. You have lots of options to choose from. It's a small store with limited seating outside but great option to pick up and take home. We've been back several times already. So yummy! Next time.... I enjoy going to the Orange location of El Molino de Oro so I had in mind certain things I wanted to order when I realized this was another location in the same chain. Sadly, the Lake Forest location only serves bakery items after around noon, so I had to make do with whatever I found in the cases. The pastries are just as good, jalapeno cheese bread is very cheesy and surprisingly mild but that may have just been a fluke non-spicy jalapeno. The flying saucer disk of cheese spilling out of the mini french bread loaf was tasty and plentiful enough to last the entirety of the pastry, skirting my pet peeve of filling running out before finishing pastries. The cream cheese mini pie looking pastry was also very good. I'm not usually a fan of pie crusts due to greasiness but this one was tender and crisp all at once. The tres leches cake from the fridge case was very creamy, sweet, and delicious. I just wish I could have gotten some entrees or cooked foods instead of having a carb on carb dinner. I asked the clerk when they serve the entrees and she said breakfast through around noon. I guess I'll have you come back to try those out. Until then, 3 stars for the disappointment the listed store hours helped to perpetuate. Also, the way the clerk packed my tres leches cake in a paper bag meant all the milky liquid spilled all over everything in my car so zero bonus points for the unnecessary mess. read more

Another nice Mexican spot here in Lake Forest. Hand made tortillas, you can also just buy the masa to make the tortillas. Lots of different kinds of sweet beads, drinks, and Mexican desserts. I'm a HUGE fan of El Molino de Oro. If you are looking for freshly baked Mexican bread and pastries, this is your place. I also enjoy their fresh house made tamales ($2.29 each) and salsa, especially their red salsa. A recent discovery are the breakfast and lunch tortas that are made in two sizes, bollillos and jalapeños. The bollillos ($2.50 to $4.49 each) are smaller and the jalapenos ($3.75 to $6.75 each) are larger and can easily feed two if cut in half. These are served until 12:00 everyday and they have a large variety to choose from. All are served on a super fresh and tasty roll and packed with goodness. El Molino De Oro is a Mexican bakery located right next to Musashi Sushiya. I had just picked up some sushi and was heading to my car when I caught sight of this bakery. Huge cookies filled with M&Ms were in the display case and caught my attention. So I had to make a stop! Cookies ($.70 each) - All the baked goods are in small cabinets. Your supposed to take a tray and use some tongs to grab what you want. I went with the M&M cookie and a chocolate chip one. Both cookies were gigantic and filled with either M&Ms or chocolate chips. Sadly each item was a dry cakey cookie. Soft pastry ($.70) - The soft pastry fared a lot better than the cookies. It had some custard and the outer dough was soft and a little like bread in terms of consistency. It wasn't bad taste wise. Overall, I was disappointed with the cookies. I probably ordered the wrong thing because it looks like this location gets super busy in the mornings and they seemed to have a lot of different breads in their display cases. But for now I am giving them 3 stars, mainly for the budget friendly pricing and the soft pastry. read more

This place rocks as we are far from Santa Ana and lake forest has a limited selection of Mexican stores... unless you Really search them out, anywho this bakery is located off el Toro inside a plaza. The Bread is baked fresh daily I believe and it's always pretty tasty, they also sell tamales and other foods I think, so that was a plus, we had a pork red tamale and it was decent. They also sell cakes and other refrigerated baked goods like... flan and gelatin! Overall it was a good find. read more

This is my go-to panaderia since there aren't many others that are good. The pastries are pretty big and very well-priced. They are flavorful, soft and fluffy. It seems though as if a tablespoon of sugar was dumped on some pastries which is not needed as they're already sweet enough. I just end up trying to take it off but I wish they didn't do that. This mom&pop Latin bakery has a good selection of pastries, however unless you speak some Spanish, it may be quite intimidating going inside. Each time I've visited this establishment, I hope and pray that someone will understand my questions in English. LOL The pork tamales are also yummy. Hubby and I are amazed we have never visited here. Last weekend, I wanted to get masa preparada from my usual spot which was all the way in Santa Ana. In an effort to probably avoid the drive, hubby suggested this place 5 minutes away from home which was billed as a tortilleria. There was no indication they sold masa so we ended up making the drive to SA but still stopped by here on the way home. It was a worthwhile trip in that we had an AMAZING breakfast sandwich (chorizo and egg with red sauce) as well as well-made street-sized tortillas to go with the carnitas we bought elsewhere. The bolillo sandwich was super garlicky (yum!) and was just such a flavor bomb we weren't expecting. Only wasn't a huge fan of their tamales - there were a lot of bubbles in the masa and it was extra crumbly (extra baking powder?). That being said, the flavor of the fillings (red/pork and beef) was top notch. Hoping maybe it was a batch issue so may try them again sometime soon. I saw some comments about the lack of COVID-19 controls but that was definitely not the case when we visited. They only allow 5 people in the store at once and everyone else lined out outside. To be fair, people mostly adhered to the rules so we didn't witness any enforcement. The lady that helped us was very patient. She had limited English and I had limited Spanish but we made it work and ended up with a delicious bounty. Glad we finally made our way here! read more

I was shocked to find an El Molino here in Lake Forest as I could remember the countless times I went to the one in SJC with my parents as a kid. I stepped in only because we were picking up our Sushi right next door at Musashi 5 minutes before closing. The ambiance was as I remembered it - only in a smaller format, the bread selection which I walked in for was just as comforting and welcoming as ever. I quickly grabbed a tray and began loading it up and stopped by the refrigerated section to grab a pastel de Tres Leches and a flan.
