Ordered a dozen mixed donuts to try for breakfast. Arrived at 6:30am and there was a short line to wait through so I was excited to see how everything tasted. The mixed donut box is about as expensive as KK but the flavors are more unique. The box we got came with a blueberry cake donut, a few sprinkle donuts, a few long John's, buttermilk donuts, Boston cream, and a few twists - and they even added a few donut holes on top for free! This is my first time here. I arrived around 8 AM on a Saturday and ordered an assortment of donuts. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed because they seemed like they were from yesterday (though I could be wrong) and had a hard texture. I did try a nibble of all six donuts we purchased to confirm, and they all had the same consistency. I came here around Christmas time because I was looking for a place to buy a couple dozen tamales, and I heard that King's Donuts has the best so I wanted to try a couple of them. They are located in Mission Viejo off of Marguerite and La Paz - same shopping center as Ralphs. Plenty of parking is available. They are literally a small hole in the wall, with just a few tables inside. Based on their name, "King's Donuts", you wouldn't think they'd be known for their tamales! In addition to donuts and tamales, they also have pupusas, bagels & smoothies. Since I only came there to try their tamales, I can't comment on any of their other food items, but I do hope to return and try their pupusas. In terms of the tamales, I tried their pork tamale and jalapeño cheese tamale. I have to preface this review by saying that I am not a tamale expert, but these tamales were pretty outstanding! The masa itself was very tasty. The jalapeño cheese was my favorite, which is surprising because I don't even like jalapeño! The pork tamale was also delicious. The tamales are generously stuffed inside, and they keep the tamales warm so they are ready to be eaten upon arrival. Each tamale was $2.25, or you can get a dozen for $27.00. Don't be fooled by all of the fabulous looking (and tasting) doughnuts when you first walk in. Doughnuts are not their only specialty; you definitely need to give their pupusas a try. They are delicious! We tried the cheese pupusa and the carnitas pupusa and they were both fresh an amazing. They also seemed to be extremely popular. The homemade salsa and cabbage sides were really good, too. As for the doughnuts, I tried a round doughnut with blueberry glaze. Actual chunks of blueberry in the glaze? Yes, please and thank you! The bean and cheese pupusa, which is my classic go-to pupusa wherever I can find them, was the best I've ever had. The beans had such a good flavor to them. And once again, the filling was in every bite and evenly distributed in the pupusa. 5 stars - Curtido. Cabbage slaw. Some would say, this is the best part about eating a pupusa, and I agree. They were piping hot and fresh, my chicharron was perfect, and everyone loved their revueltas (mixed). The salsa has some kick to it, but not too spicy, and the curtido was pickled well but still nice and crunchy like I like it. They give you some seared peppers, but I'm too chicken to try them because I can't recognize them.
