Blink and you may miss this small Peruvian spot in Union city. Had the Menu (lunch special) with papa a la huancaina and Lomo saltado. I loveeeeed the papa a la huancaina. The potatoes were soft and warm the sauce creamy and rich not watery like some places. This place is a lunch go to spot. Place looks clean and well kept. The staff was friendly and the service was great (but I went at 2:30 when not many people were there are all). Lomo saltado was a 3 star in comparison to the high end Peruvian spots. White onions instead of the original red ones disappointed a bit. Huge plus for me- they give you the bottles of hot sauce which is EVERYTHING for me. The sauces were also pretty good. We normally have our chicken spot that we have been loyal but that was until yesterday. Now we might have to share our time between two delicious Peruvian restaurants, which honestly it's not something to complain about. The chicken was tender and the skin crispy. Their side salad with beets was so good, I could have had just that with the chicken. The white rice was well white rice, nothing out of the ordinary. Very highly recommended by someone who works in the area. Stopped in for lunch at 11:30. At first I didn't think the place was open because I couldn't see anyone inside and the lights were very dim. I ordered the quarter chicken with fries and salad. I also ordered what I thought was a salsa, however, it turned out to be very thinly sliced red onions with parsley and lemon juice. It was a nice accompaniment to the chicken. The salad had 2 slices of beet and 2 slice s of tomato on a bed of iceberg lettuce. The dressing was mayo based with some herbs and was a nice choice. I could have done with less lettuce though. The chicken was tender and fell off the bone. The chicken skin of the leg and thigh was crispy and delicious. The meat directly beneath the skin was dry and hard. The rest of the chicken was tender though. Flavors? Ah - I was expecting more depth of flavor but it was ok. The fries were hot, crispy, and plentiful. The restaurant is situated in a strip mall next to a restaurant beauty supply store and a laundromat. DC transplants rejoice! Peruvian chicken as good as Super Pollo or El Pollo Rico exists in this area! And it is at El Nuevo Sol. We got a whole chicken with fried yucca and plantains and extra sauces. The chicken was amazing, perfectly spiced and tender. The yucca was delicious as well but the plantains, although tasty, were a little greasy. They do not have as many chickens cooking like at the DC Peruvian chicken joints so you may have to wait, but the wait is worth it. Also the green sauce is awesome. The yellow sauce is good but different from the DC yellow sauce, a little more mustard tasting. So excited to add El Nuevo Sol into our regular rotation. read more

I have their salad with green sauce atleast 3 times a week. Its so delicious!! The green sauce is my favorite out of all the Peruvian restaurants in town. Their chicken is good too very juicy in the inside. Ordering over the phone can be a bit annoying sometimes they need to work on that. Went here on a whim and got the #1 chicken combo. It easily would have fed 4 people. Chicken was super tender and very juicy. The seasonings were well placed. Little store with so many good things starting with the chicken, and the yellow spicy sauce, the fries. In terms of Peruvian cuisine, the fried rice is great as well as the tallarin verde, the green pesto sauce spaghetti with a steak on top of it.
