Me and a friend checked out Happy Hour for the drink specials and had a pretty chill time on the Rooftop. Our waitress was a bit eccentric but a lot of fun and very friendly. Today was the first day the Rooftop was open for the season and it was nice to sit in the sun for a bit. I wanted to try the Pear Tree cocktail but they were out of an ingredient to make it, so I had the Passion Island instead. Great flavors and the foam had a hint of coconut which made the drink even more refreshing. Both entrees were cooked well and were very generously portioned. I would suggest getting the Chicken Maple Jus on the side of the Herb Roasted Half Amish Chicken in case you don't want it on everything, but it is perfectly balanced; not too sweet because of the maple. Unfortunately their air was on the fritz so a bit muggy in the restaurant . I enjoy trying the Rueben at different pubs and the waiter said it's good. Said Braised beef Rueben so it intrigued me. Not in my top ten for sure, meat was thin and a bit fatty served with a unique Russian sauce, more a sauce than dressing. Would not recommend. I had a terrible experience here. I use to come here often as we enjoyed the food but my last experience here changed everything. Last time I came here the manger was rude to my friends and I and we were displeased with the service. We wanted to talk to the person in charge but they were not there. I tried calling a few days later and the owner still was not in so I asked for contact information. Afterwards I emailed the owner to not only inform them of our experience but how things were handled too. With plenty of street parking nearby, large sized dining room (with a rooftop bar), large menu, big portion sizes, and reasonable prices -- Avenue Ale House is a solid venue to hangout and enjoy a casual meal with friends or family. Service was attentive and frequent. On this visit, I tried the Mango Sangria which easily served 4 and was enjoyed by everyone. The carne asada fries were addictive with crispy waffle fries, tasty bits of steak, salty cheddar, and an addictive mix of pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and creme fraiche. The nacho supreme had a similar flavor and was served in an enormous portion with nice and crispy tortilla chips. The fried riblets were the best item I tried, with extremely tender pork and a super crispy beer batter, and served over a crispy pile of french fries. The brisket flatbread was served with plenty of braised brisket and a generous amount of arugula over a crispy and fluffy flatbread. Overall, reasonably priced and comfortable with better than average pub food -- Avenue Ale House is a good place to enjoy a drink and a few bites. read more

Let's just talk about this gem located in oak park on oak park avenue. Avenue Ale has a wild Wild West exterior but the inside is a massive bar with space to seat a family reunion and then some. I came here on a Wednesday night around 9:15 and was instantly greeted. It was super dead on the inside which can be a good or bad thing. Given a menu and instantly you're hit with options. The menu is large with a front and back. There is something for everyone. With the kitchen closing in 15, we ordered an array of food to really gain a feel for the place. The maple chipotle wings - fire. It's like a smidge of sweet mixed with Buffalo. Definitely sits well on the tongue and the meat was cooked well and it chewy. The blue cheese isn't the best but it's wasn't really needed. The blackened catfish - this dish has many flavor thrown at you. Off first look, the massive slice of cornbread looks overly moist and the butter looks like Mayo. So I was skeptical. However the cornbread was sweet and thick. The whipped butter gave elevated that. The rice was seasoned with cumin which is different since it was paired with catfish, a southern food item. All in all it meshed well together and was filling. My only downsides are the price and having two starches. $22 is a bit steep and a vegertable side would've been nice. The brisket French dip was amazing. The chef knew what they were doing. The ju sauce was Smokey and warm which is phenomenal. They aren't stingy with the meat and the bread wasn't tough. GET THIS SANDWICH AND YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. Our cocktails were fire. Huge shoutout to John. He has seen eras of Avenue Ale and by far this is the best version. The food plus the amazing drinks and being surrounded by tv screens is the perfect getaway or hangout. This is your typical bar restaurant in a small town. The establishment is pretty big and seems like it'd be a fun place if its full. I went on a Saturday evening and it was pretty dead. The food was okay. It's typical bar food that you'd probably enjoy more once you're inebriated. The only thing I enjoyed was the carne asada fries - it had some of the best tasting waffle fries I've ever tried. The flavors in the dish were pretty good. As for the rest of the food, the nachos didn't feel supreme and honestly was the same as the fries besides the fact that it didn't have meat and it included nachos instead. The flatbread was soggy and flavorless. The sangria was decent but I wouldn't come here just for the drinks. As for the service, it was mediocre. Our waiter kept rushing us to order so we felt pressured which resulted in us getting things we probably should have reconsidered. The experience was all right overall. read more

I really enjoyed this place! I came here with a girlfriend who is a new resident to Oak Park. Her & I enjoy trying out new restaurants, but this time she had been there already and let me know that is was a really good spot and she wasn't kidding! Upon entering you walk into a huge bar/restaurant that gives a western vibe, but we asked to be seated upstairs on the rooftop! It's so pretty and intimate up there so if you can - please try it out! We ordered their carne asada fries and their twisty teriyaki wings. The fries were okay but there were some areas that it could've improved. My friend and I both agreed that the "steak" tasted more like ground beef. The flavors were there and I loved that it came with a avocado salsa! The guac didn't give freshly made. Last comment would be the cheese - wasn't what we expected. Nonetheless for loaded fries, they did what they had to do! Now the wings were delicious- i do wish they could've been saucier but that's just personal preference. I had 2 mango sangrias to drink for their Happy Hour which I have to add are amazing deals! Wish we had those prices in Chicago haha! We stopped in here for a quick bite and drink on a Saturday evening. We were able to seat ourselves at the bar. We ordered a beer and a wine, which were both reasonably priced. We also got chips and dip. The tomatillo salsa was actually spicy, which surprised me! I enjoyed it a lot. The guacamole was pretty fresh tasting too. There aren't as many beers available as I'd expect from a place called an ale house, so that's really my only complaint. I went on a Saturday evening and I ordered boneless buffalo wings and my boyfriend ordered chicken nachos. This got progressively worse with the food. Not only were the nachos cold, we noticed it didn't come with the protein as requested and the beans weren't on it. It looked like they poured the bean juice from the bottom of can on top of nachos. They took 20 minutes to cook a very small amount of protein to go with order. By the time the chicken came my boyfriend being hungry had eaten almost everything. To top it off our server didn't ask us if we wanted anything else or more drinks. She forgotten to get me blue cheese dip for the second time and told me blue cheese looks the same as ranch. It is not. We then notice her talking to other servers and is barely present at bar which there wasn't a lot of people there. We proceed to order desert, which was brownie with one scoop of vanilla ice cream. The one time she offered us options was the desert of which wasn't at all what was described. A piece of very dry and stale bundt cake was served to us barely warm! This was not a brownie! The food was horrible. The service was mediocre and we paid over a 100$ for this poor experience to top it off my boyfriend felt very sick afterwards eating that food. Very disappointing. Avenue Ale House is a pretty nice bar in Oak Park. My husband and I went there with some friends on a Saturday night. We had our choice of seats as the bar and restaurant were pretty empty even at 7:00. We ordered a mango sangria to share. It was fruity and tasty. Our server was attentive, but maybe too much so. We all felt pressured to order food before we were ready. We got four shareables for the table. We got the fried riblets, rooftop nachos supreme, Carne asada fries, and the brisket flatbread. The fried riblets were my favorite. They had a great texture and were super tender and came with French fries and a tangy barbecue sauce. The waffle fries were seasoned perfectly and were pretty addictive. I couldn't stop eating them. The nachos were good, but there was too much sour cream that smothered the nachos. The flatbread packed a punch and was on the spicy side. Overall, Avenue Ale House is a nice place to spend some time with friends in a bar that is not super noisy that some other bars can be. We really enjoyed our dinner here. Other than the long flight of steps up to the rooftop patio, which is unavoidable but was aided by sturdy railings, everything was wonderful. We managed to snag a parking spot right out in front, and because it was a Sunday evening, we didn't even have to pay for the spot. I had the boneless wings, with garlic Parmesan on the side. I added celery with ranch for dipping, and ended up putting some of the ranch to the garlic Parmesan sauce, because it was very heavy on the garlic. The combination of the two was fabulous, and the boneless wings were very meaty and flavorful. My peach sangria was also very good, although the small chunks of apple and lemon would occasionally get caught in my straw. I would recommend bigger slices instead.. We had a group of seven, which was split into two tables thanks to COVID precautions, but the tables were adjacent to each other, so we were still able to chat. The outdoor rooftop atmosphere was nice, lots of plants (music kinda loud but eclectic playlist at least). Not so great is that they charge $5 extra for Impossible burgers- why???. I got the impossible tacos which were tasty (as were the black beans and rice that come with) but they charge extra for salsa. I was a little disappointed with the food. We ordered chicken wings and brisket flat bread pizza which was not that good. The chicken wings had no flavor and the sauce from the pizza had a strong powerful spicy scent. I read a few reviews that wasn't so nice. Always a delight to come to this location. Our sever was funny and good. We visited at lunch, there were only a few occupied tables. The food is really good. I've been here on numerous occasions, date night, co-worker group lunch and now a friend for lunch. Every time the servers make us laugh! This time we were hoping to sit upstairs on the patio but it is closed for reno and opens in a month or two. The patio is so nice for nicer weather! It's so relaxing and serene. Definitely recommend it if it's open upstairs. I don't recommend drinks here as they are no very strong at all, but great for food and atmosphere outside! read more

Have been here many times since my previous review. This has become a "go to" since it is close to my work AND they have an awesome, remodeled rooftop patio. The decor on the patio is adorable and makes for a great place to catch a drink on a nice summer day. Many of the staff members I really liked are gone now, but the new staff is nice too. We had Cortlyn on our last lunch outing and she was super nice and attentive. The only real "beef" I have is that when new ownership took over, they got rid of some of my favorite menu items, particularly the Farmer's Flat Bread - which was like a mini pizza with goat cheese and beets! It was delicious. They also got rid of one of the salads my coworker used to order (forgot if it was a Cobb or Chopped). Either way, she was pretty bummed about that. I was here on a Saturday for lunch and the place was pretty empty; there were maybe 3 groups up on the rooftop (including us) and a big party downstairs in the back room area. But, somehow, the service was suuuuuuper slooooooow. Our waitress was nice and friendly, but she sort of disappeared half way through and didn't really come back to check up on us until we were practically bouncing on the edge of our seat eager to leave. I got the Avenue burger, which came warm but not hot--which I'm not gonna be a stickler about, but seriously, WHY? (It took about 30 min for our food to arrive so I was expecting everything to be hot, you know?) The 10 oz patty doesn't disappoint in size but the taste was a little bland and boring. The peach sangria was tasty and the sweet potato fries were delicious though!
