With plenty of street parking nearby, large sized dining room (with a rooftop bar), large menu, big portion sizes, and reasonable prices -- Avenue Ale House is a solid venue to hangout and enjoy a casual meal with friends or family. Service was attentive and frequent. On this visit, I tried the Mango Sangria which easily served 4 and was enjoyed by everyone. The carne asada fries were addictive with crispy waffle fries, tasty bits of steak, salty cheddar, and an addictive mix of pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and creme fraiche. The nacho supreme had a similar flavor and was served in an enormous portion with nice and crispy tortilla chips. The fried riblets were the best item I tried, with extremely tender pork and a super crispy beer batter, and served over a crispy pile of french fries. The brisket flatbread was served with plenty of braised brisket and a generous amount of arugula over a crispy and fluffy flatbread. Overall, reasonably priced and comfortable with better than average pub food -- Avenue Ale House is a good place to enjoy a drink and a few bites.

Let's just talk about this gem located in oak park on oak park avenue. Avenue Ale has a wild Wild West exterior but the inside is a massive bar with space to seat a family reunion and then some. I came here on a Wednesday night around 9:15 and was instantly greeted. It was super dead on the inside which can be a good or bad thing. Given a menu and instantly you're hit with options. The menu is large with a front and back. There is something for everyone. With the kitchen closing in 15, we ordered an array of food to really gain a feel for the place. The maple chipotle wings - fire. It's like a smidge of sweet mixed with Buffalo. Definitely sits well on the tongue and the meat was cooked well and it chewy. The blue cheese isn't the best but it's wasn't really needed. The blackened catfish - this dish has many flavor thrown at you. Off first look, the massive slice of cornbread looks overly moist and the butter looks like Mayo. So I was skeptical. However the cornbread was sweet and thick. The whipped butter gave elevated that. The rice was seasoned with cumin which is different since it was paired with catfish, a southern food item. All in all it meshed well together and was filling. My only downsides are the price and having two starches. $22 is a bit steep and a vegertable side would've been nice. The brisket French dip was amazing. The chef knew what they were doing. The ju sauce was Smokey and warm which is phenomenal. They aren't stingy with the meat and the bread wasn't tough. GET THIS SANDWICH AND YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. Our cocktails were fire. Huge shoutout to John. He has seen eras of Avenue Ale and by far this is the best version. The food plus the amazing drinks and being surrounded by tv screens is the perfect getaway or hangout. I will be returning for the rooftop and brunch.

This is your typical bar restaurant in a small town. The establishment is pretty big and seems like it'd be a fun place if its full. I went on a Saturday evening and it was pretty dead. The food was okay. It's typical bar food that you'd probably enjoy more once you're inebriated. The only thing I enjoyed was the carne asada fries - it had some of the best tasting waffle fries I've ever tried. The flavors in the dish were pretty good. As for the rest of the food, the nachos didn't feel supreme and honestly was the same as the fries besides the fact that it didn't have meat and it included nachos instead. The flatbread was soggy and flavorless. The sangria was decent but I wouldn't come here just for the drinks. As for the service, it was mediocre. Our waiter kept rushing us to order so we felt pressured which resulted in us getting things we probably should have reconsidered. The experience was all right overall.

I really enjoyed this place! I came here with a girlfriend who is a new resident to Oak Park. Her & I enjoy trying out new restaurants, but this time she had been there already and let me know that is was a really good spot and she wasn't kidding! Upon entering you walk into a huge bar/restaurant that gives a western vibe, but we asked to be seated upstairs on the rooftop! It's so pretty and intimate up there so if you can - please try it out! We ordered their carne asada fries and their twisty teriyaki wings. The fries were okay but there were some areas that it could've improved. My friend and I both agreed that the "steak" tasted more like ground beef. The flavors were there and I loved that it came with a avocado salsa! The guac didn't give freshly made. Last comment would be the cheese - wasn't what we expected. Nonetheless for loaded fries, they did what they had to do! Now the wings were delicious- i do wish they could've been saucier but that's just personal preference. I had 2 mango sangrias to drink for their Happy Hour which I have to add are amazing deals! Wish we had those prices in Chicago haha! The sangria was delicious- tasted like juice which is always a good dangerous lol Overall the menu is huge and has so many different things to choose from - great variety for any/everyone! John was our waiter/bartender and he was friendly and was able to give me suggestions/recommendations and let me know his favorites.

The food was ok. Had four appetizers and it was all standard bar food. The place itself was nice and spacious. Service was prompt. The mango sangria was the highlight and very flavorful.

We stopped in here for a quick bite and drink on a Saturday evening. We were able to seat ourselves at the bar. We ordered a beer and a wine, which were both reasonably priced. We also got chips and dip. The tomatillo salsa was actually spicy, which surprised me! I enjoyed it a lot. The guacamole was pretty fresh tasting too. There aren't as many beers available as I'd expect from a place called an ale house, so that's really my only complaint. I heard the rooftop cafe is nice so I'll have to check that out next!

This is a nice spacious place to stop for beverages and quick bites. The server took time to even out a clover design in the Guiness which was poured perfectly.

Came in for a quick drink. Nice spot with reasonable pricing. Only tried the apple martini. Roof top wasn't opening, should be opening up at the beginning of summer per a team member. Bar seating but also family friendly with tables and very well lit. Street parking out front if you're lucky, they're lots of businesses on the street.

Avenue Ale House is a pretty nice bar in Oak Park. My husband and I went there with some friends on a Saturday night. We had our choice of seats as the bar and restaurant were pretty empty even at 7:00. We ordered a mango sangria to share. It was fruity and tasty. Our server was attentive, but maybe too much so. We all felt pressured to order food before we were ready. We got four shareables for the table. We got the fried riblets, rooftop nachos supreme, Carne asada fries, and the brisket flatbread. The fried riblets were my favorite. They had a great texture and were super tender and came with French fries and a tangy barbecue sauce. The waffle fries were seasoned perfectly and were pretty addictive. I couldn't stop eating them. The nachos were good, but there was too much sour cream that smothered the nachos. The flatbread packed a punch and was on the spicy side. Overall, Avenue Ale House is a nice place to spend some time with friends in a bar that is not super noisy that some other bars can be. I recommend Avenue Ale House.

Best bartender in the game!!! Amazing time with John!!!! Rooftop. Highly recommended.

Jon the bartender was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about all of the beers. Made us feel comfortable. We had the oysters and sangria, definitely recommend! We had a great time! Definitely will be back to see him! The vibe was immaculate & will be telling my friends to come here.

The food has really taken a dive and the service was lacking. Drinks were ok. Things have gone down hill a bit.

We found that and more at Taqueria El Tapatio. They have a very large space that is brightly lit and very colorfully decorated. They have booths and stand alone tables, each of which feature carvings of natural scenes and animals. There were several families and couples already enjoying meals when we sat down. We were greeted with complementary chips and salsa. The chips were so fresh they were still warm. The salsas were all delicious. I was very partial to the chile de árbol. We chose to have tacos de al pastor, a taco de pechuga y queso fundido, and the Nachos Supremos. We took our time and zero pictures. The food was delicious, fresh, and generously portioned. On the way out we ordered a strawberry liquado and it was what dreams are made of. Highly recommend gifting yourself a chill night at this joint or grabbing some food for the road. We'll be back!

I usually am not much of a salsa with chips gal when it comes to restaurants like this. The chips were crispy, the salsa was perfection and just so savory and spicy! The green salsa was like a combo of roasted green peppers with avocado it was my favorite and the red salsa was the traditional tomatoes/pepper salsa. I wish we had them here in Des Moines. The service was amazing too. Just like at home they greeted us right away and told us to sit where we would like. The place also smelled so clean. I ordered to drink the carrot/orange juice. Made me feel like I was in the markets in Mexico picking up a fresh juice! To eat i ordered a steak, a tripa taco and a ceviche shrimp tostada. Needless to say this made me feel completely satisfied by the end. The shrimp ceviche tostada was a a generous amount and it was mouth watering good. The asada taco was delicious. The tripa taco was made how I like it crispy and just so good. The lady asked if we wanted the tripe soft or crispy which was so nice that they ask because everyone has different preferences on how they like their tripa. My mom ordered a order of the tripa tacos and she had them soft. My mom was so impressed by this place and that says a lot from a women who is a amazing cook herself. Anyway this is HIGHLY recommended if you love AUTHENTIC Mexican food. I will DEFINITELY be back here. I'm already planning my next trip!

In the context of a mom-&-pop shop like this, it is charming and not annoying. I ordered the birria ramen with the quesabirria upgrade. I wasn't brave enough to go for the spicy variant, for I wasn't ready for the possibility of having my posterior handed to me. Having "real" ramen noodles, whatever that means, is something I will leave to Japanese places. Noodles from the familiar bricks at the grocer's are understandable and instantly forgivable - I'd be surprised if they were "real"! Noodles aside, the ramen had a rich, savory broth. In addition, there was a healthy serving of tender pulled meat that had the flavors of the ramen turned up to 11! Who needs ramen when you have MEAT! Finally, I appreciate the onion and cilantro served on the side as the vegetable element, as well as a Tapatío Soup Base on the side (though, why mess with perfection?) Then we come to the quesabirria. As much as I enjoyed the ramen, this is 100% what I am ordering next time. A tortilla grilled crispy without becoming a tortilla chip, the perfect amount of cheese, and the same meat born in a kitchen of the gods! Everything was in perfect balance and harmony; and yes, I dipped it into the ramen. Speaking of tortillas, there are fresh fried tortilla chips provided at the start of the meal with three salsas! These aren't your jarred ones either! While the ones in squeeze bottles were on the simpler side, they were distinct. The favorite goes to the one in the ramekin! They aren't shy about refilling the chips when they run out either! My only comment is that the chips aren't salted. However! There is salt at the table, and this does help people adjust salt to their liking and prevents sogginess. While not greasy, there was enough oil to help the salt adhere. In terms of their service, some things were great, and other things were a little chaotic. The service was quick to bring out and refill chips as well as take my order. On the flip side, an empty water glass wasn't noticed, the Agua Fresca wasn't brought until much later with the meal, and the ramen took longer than I'd've expected. Entering the restaurant, there was also some confusion about the process, as I was quietly seated at the counter, but this was apparently a waiting area to be added to the wait list? Just a little chaos adding to the charm, nothing to worry about. Another indication of chaos? There is a sign asking for toilet paper not to be thrown into the toilet, and thrown into the trash can... it wasn't April 1st either. Thankfully, no foul smells. About that Agua Fresca... it was refreshing and not too sweet, and not 80% ice as so many places do with cold beverages. Enjoyable lightly sweet and acidic rim, too! What guarantees a return visit? The value! Not only were the prices reasonable on their own, the portions were large even for a voracious eater like myself, taking some home for the next day. Final verdict: a quintessential family-owned restaurant that makes incredible birria at prices that'll have you thinking you'd just time traveled. The ramen is very good, but the quesabirria is to die for! Don't miss it!

We also got the birria mac n cheese, which was in collaboration with Luella's Southern Kitchen. It was yummy, but a bit overwhelming with the cheese. The bread crumbs on top gave it some texture/crunch which was nice. I got a strawberry horchata to drink - it was okay, but I didn't taste any horchata, so would opt for a regular horchata. Food was overall a great experience - highly recommend. The staff were kind and accommodating. But I docked a star only because there was uncertainty about the birria mac n cheese collab, even after asking two employees. There was also a minor tech issue where the payment screen froze. But overall staff were very warm!
