Went here today with my husband, father, and toddler son. I got the enchiladas special dinner with chicken and they were fantastic. My husband got the quesadilla with chorizo and inhaled it. The ambience here is very charming. El Oasis is a food truck, so people dine outside. The space is ablaze with flowers! There are beds of annuals in the middle of the tables! I have never seen anything like it! Best tablescape ever! Fortunately they serve breakfast all day because when I saw breakfast burrito on the menu, I knew that was what I wanted. I had eggs and potatoes on mine. The DH had the dinner tacos with lengua, or tongue, as his meat choice. Both of us enjoyed our meals and would order them again. I have been stopping by here every time I am in Lansing. Really love the outside Taco truck vibe and not to mention the Rice is so bomb! I always get the steak tacos and a tamale, does not disappoint. Note that the hot sauce is VERY hot, if you like a good amount of spice I would stick to the milder green sauce. Amazing. One time I was really craving a tamale on my way home from work, and drove down to El Oasis. Somehow I had no cash in my wallet (this was before they took cards). I walked up to the truck and found out they did not take credit. Using the change scrounged from the bottom of my car, I went up to the truck again... gave them what I had which was not enough... and they gave me a tamale anyway. Totally made my day. The pork al pastor is really incredible and the burritos are large. Gorditas and sopes are good too. Get an ice cold Mexican Coca-Cola (made with real cane sugar not high fructose corn syrup) and enjoy some delicious Mexican food. read more

Compared to the places I frequent in Detroit, this isn't fabulous. Compared to El Azteco, Taco Bell, Punk Taco, etc? This is great! I don't have a meal plan this year at MSU, so I have to fend for myself. I've only been back at school for 2 days (non-consecutive) and I've been twice. I can walk away with a filling meal for less than $5 and it's healthier than McDonald's. So far I've tried the chicken, pork, and chorizo. All three didn't have the spice/flavor that I'm used to, but weren't bad. Definitely needs a hit of salsa/hot sauce. The tacos are great; corn tortillas (the only way to eat a taco) jam packed with meat. A good change is a quesadilla on a corn tortilla, which just has a thick layer of melted cheese under the meat for roughly the same price. The best thing on the menu that I've tried has been the chicken tamale. It had a lot more flavor than a chicken taco! Really delicious and only $2. Overall, it's good Mexican food compared to what else Lansing has to offer. read more

I've been going to El Oasis since my time as a student at State. It is a true gem, so I keep going back when I come back to visit. Since my time as a student they improved the ambiance around the truck a great deal. The food has remained consistent and delicious. I order delivery from El Oasis a few times a month at the least. It never disappoints. I love the chicken taco special. The tacos are small, but very filling and delicious! The meal comes with three tacos. I also frequently order the burritos. I'd say it's somewhere between an authentic Mexican sit-down restaurant and mama's homemade Mexican food. El Oasis has always had a lot of hype in many of my social circles, but it has always lived up to it. The food is amazing, authentic, and reasonably priced. The prices are super reasonable. The environment is amazing! I personally am a sucker for a good food truck, but the tables and FOUNTAINS they have there make it feel comfy and personal. Fantastic food. I order from them 1-2x a week and would recommend calling ahead. It's a small semi-permanent food truck so their operating capacity is limited, calling in advance reduces wait time. I do not recommend the nachos but the tacos (I love shredded beef) and tostadas hit the mark for me. I LOVE El Oasis! *Self proclaimed burrito critic. I currently live in Chicago, IL and have yet to find a better burrito than El Oasis'. Beef burrito with rice and beans, in my belly. Don't forget the spicy green sauce - it has the best flavor! This is embarrassing but I usually get hiccups while eating at El Oasis because I try to eat my delicious burrito as quickly as possible (don't judge me). I've lived in the Lansing area my whole life. I have seen this little trailer for years, but never thought to try it because its a stand on the side of the road..... until I discovered yelp and couldn't believe the ratings I was seeing. BOY did I wish I had I gone here YEARS ago. The parking lot it is located in is always full, with people going in and out. The food is INCREDIBLE, and I can't stress this enough. I normally go with the burrito, and of course the light green cilantro stuff (mind-blowing) All of the food is very authentic, and cooked up right when you order. The taco's are equally as incredible as the burritos. I keep wanting to try a tamale, but everytime I'm there (in the evening) they are sold out of them, probably because they make them in the morning and are sold fast. The value is unbelieveable, let alone with how good the food is. It is very cheap, you can go here and spend as little as 3 dollars and get full on very good food. I don't really need to say much more, just look at all the reviews and decide for your self. This is the only perfect 5 star restaurant I've ever seen on Yelp with more then 2 reviews, and there are 20+ of them....let alone, ITS A FREAKING TACO CART!!!!!! Pure awesomeness. read more

This is what love tastes like. Our travelin' band was just passing through Lansing when we received a local's recommendation for lunch: El Oasis. We searched Michigan St for this tiny food truck, heralded as "the Mexican food of a lifetime." Such a description is an understatement. Bite one of my breakfast burrito released an onslaught of exquisite flavors, transporting me to another dimension - a place where dreams are wrapped in gently fried tortillas. I could not put it down. Bite after bite, this Mexican symphony unfolded with movement after entrancing movement. Beans! Cheese! Potatoes! Eggs! My fellow musicians were also transported to this Mexican-food utopia. Quesadillas that would make Napoleon Dynamite melt with incandescent joy. Chicken tacos that could turn the hardest heart of stone. If the enemies of America were treated to El Oasis, our deepest cultural wounds could be swaddled in delicious melted cheese. Problems of all shapes and sizes seem so small when wrapped in the warmth of a neatly folded tortilla. Some might be stunned, even incredulous, when confronted with these claims. That is understandable. But I implore you, as a friend, brother, and a fellow American, THIS oasis is where you belong. The peace and happiness you knew as a child can be found at El Oasis, a beacon of Mexican-food truth and wisdom. Sopes! Nomnomnomnom! (I write novellas) The first time I tasted El O was about 5 years ago. After a long day's work I find my sister at the table eating "truck food", my mind was waging a battle that my senses and empty stomach would not let it win. I had never eaten "truck food" before, turned my nose up at it as a matter of fact. But this day I gave in to the rumbling of my stomach, to that growl that seemed to come from somewhere more spiritual than physical, and my dear, sweet, loving sister let me have a sampling of her plate, despite the barrage of jokes I threw at her. The first bite, still warm, still fresh, had me running for my door, purse & keys in hand to find this "truck". I left immediately without so much as a "good-bye". When I arrived I ordered like a kid in a candy store. "I want this, and this, and some of this, and that". I ordered the sopes, then the tacos and *sob/sniff* found my self visiting once a week that summer, never to be disappointed. I was in love, with everything on the menu but especially with the sopes (and I hate avocado). Oh sure, there are other Mexican/Tex-Mex/Fake-Mex restaurants in Lansing and I have dined at the majority of them but my friends there is no comparison to El O. I'm all hearts and glittery sunshine when it comes to them. :D And if you have found better, please feel free to let me know... Nothing special in terms of food quality, and actually a bad deal in terms of price. With no seating, amenities, or service being offered, I can't justify spending 16-20 dollars on dinner for two unless the food is excellent, which it simply is not. I've had al pastor that was as chewy as bubblegum one day, and then the next week fell apart like butter but was way too salty. Many times I've ordered mexican style tacos, only to get home and open the package to find corn tortillas doused in cheese. However, I do not want to exaggerate the food issues, as this is definitely the upper-end of Mexican food in the mid-Michigan region and I appreciate anybody trying to do my favorite cuisine in a more authentic fashion. My major issue with this place is that I legitimately feel ill for at least a day after eating here. This makes me doubt that proper sanitary measures are being undertaken, particularly the holding temperatures/times for the vast amount of meats they serve, and the cloud of bugs that seem to surround this place starting around the fourth of july. as others have mentioned, their salsas are nice but i don't find them to be anything special (salsa seems to be the achilles heel of every mexican place around lansing). in short: good, authentic mexican food that is slightly expensive, mired by consistency errors and best paired with some pepto-bismol. read more

Being a taco snob, I'm ready to hate anything here the Midwest believes is south of the border cuisine. El Oasis is the real deal. Along with Pablo's, some if the best Mexican fare I've had in all of Michigan. I can only speak to their tacos, but every flavor tried - chicken, beef and chorizo was delicious. I think it's safe to assume that you can't go wrong here. The taco dinner plate is a good value as well. I'm excited to come back and try more. For a food truck, the wait can be a bit long. This Lansing food truck has what I consider the best and most authentic Mexican food in the area. I am in no way opposed to Tex Mex done well, but true Mexican food can be awesome. If you want your giant size platter of fried food, re-fried beans and melted cheese, you won't like El Oasis. Many of the dishes seem very simple, but they are executed with perfection. I.e. the tacos. I typically get lengua (beef tongue) or pork. Served in warm corn tortillas with the meat, onions, cilantro, sauce and a lime wedge. The Torta is great as well, as is the burritos, tamales, and tostadas. As others have mentioned, they accept credit cards, but at times their device is broken so bring cash to be certain. At lunch it can get a bit congested and you may have to wait 15 minutes for your food. read more

El Oasis is yet another trendy, hipster frequented, complete and total disappointment. El Oasis has two locations in Lansing. One in South Lansing on Cedar and the other more popular location on Michigan. My fiance, my mother, and I tried the Michigan Ave location. We looked at their menu and ordered 2 cheese quesadilla's, the 3 tacos special, and a tamale. The portions were miserably small, each taco and quesadilla was approximately the size of my palm. The tacos were about half the size of a standard taco and the quesadilla was about 1/3 the size of a typical quesadilla. The re-fried beans, rice, and tamale were horrible. I have literally had better from the grocery store. And the Tacos weren't even spectacular. I think I get better tacos at Famous Taco. And their similarly priced lunch special should actually fill you. The food you receive at El Oasis, in no way resembles the pictures on the menu (side of the truck). Although the bland photos people boast about on yelp just about cover it. You have to be delusional to look at half of the bland photos posted to El Oasis' yelp page and think it looks fantastic. That said, it was quite expensive considering what you got my taco special consisting of 3 tiny tacos and some canned beans cost about 6 or 7 dollars. I can get more and better food for that all over town (i.e., Michael's BBQ, Spotted Dog, Crunchies, etc.). Will not be back - besides the trendy factor of being a food truck this place has nothing going for other than ironic hipster love. read more

A cheap delicious spot for lunch or dinner! But beware, the fire sauce there is crazy spicy! My boyfriend and I shared the chicken burrito and the taco dinner which came with 3 tacos, rice, and beans. They also had outdoor seating for the customers to enjoy their food. You have to eat here....seriously good mexican food. Easily a dozen different types of meat to choose from, the area's best green hot salsa, pineapple empanadas for a dollar, Mexican coca-cola (made with cane sugar, not corn syrup- yes there is a taste difference), huge milkshakes for an incredibly reasonable price (note- they no longer serve milkshakes). I love authentic mexican tacos, especially beef tongue! I found this place on Yelp and I dragged my sister along with our Bos to try it! I'm so glad that we did. The taco food truck/cart has no seating available, but it's all good because we just eat our food in the car or bring it right home. All of the tacos (asada, chicken, beef tongue, cheeks, & pork) that I have tried have been wonderful! It's cheap too! $2 or less per taco. My favorite is the beef tongue or beef cheek tacos: tender beef tongue and cheeks. Just needs a bit of salt, mild salsa, a squeeze of lime and it's amazinggg!! Their rice is as wonderful as their tacos, refried beans are definitely made fresh, and hot salsa is actually HOT (be warned! I eat pretty spicy & I was sweating). I have also tried their tamales. I really like the flavor of the tamale, but it pains me to say that it has been quite dry the multiple times I have gotten it. I think they don't steam it long enough. Motherfuckin' Taco Truck all up in this bitch. The El Oasis Taco Truck aka The Taco Truck is the gem of Eastside. Eastside is a wonderfully diverse place, and you can see in all the people waiting in line at the Taco Truck. There are only three places in town with good Mexican food. Pablo's, Fiesta Charra, and the Taco Truck. Pablo's is actual Mexican, Fiesta Charra is Tex-Mex and the Taco Truck sells huge burritos for very little money. The only downside: Their guacamole, while delicious, costs too much. read more
