    Cholados

I have been coming to El Palacio de Los Cholados for over 10 years. I was in the mood for a Cholado and I must say, as usual they did not disappoint. I have to begin by saying that the service has gotten way better and you no longer have to wait more than 5 minutes for your order. They are also accepting credit cards which is convenient. I remember once upon a time they would only accept cash. Now, back to the Cholados. They were beyond delicious, packed with shredded ice, blackberry juice, sliced strawberries, sliced watermelon, banana, shaved coconut, topped with condensed milk (Lecherita) and a cherry on top making it just the perfect dessert on a hot summer day, but I can have a Cholado any time of the year.

Cholado's are fairly new to me. I never tried one until today but I've definitely heard it being mentioned by friends and people in Jackson Heights. It's really fascinating how shaved ice desserts exist in almost every culture of the world. For example, Korea has their bing soo, Indonesia has Es Teler, Filipinos have halo halo, Italians has ..um Italian ice (not really sure ..is it really from Italy?) but all has their own unique recipes. It's a fairly simple recipe here that works for me. It has condensed milk, fruit syrup, shaved ice, fruits (strawberry and bananas), and coconut shredding. Both refreshing and sweet, Id definitely come back again. Drinking the cholado, I did find the coconut shreds to be annoying and getting caught in my throat. I'd likely skip the fruits and coconut next time. Its cash only and only 2 workers from what I can tell. Drink was $8 with all the fruits in August 2019

Ended up at El Palacio de Los Cholados on a hunt for some dessert. The line was out the door. They have a lot of counter space, but nothing really on display. The menu is in Spanish. There is no description for any of their items anyway. I had no idea what a cholado was, but fortunately my companion went ahead and just ordered for me. I got a cup of shaved ice with blackberry and passion fruit syrups, pineapple chunks, coconut shavings, banana slices, and strawberries, topped with maraschino cherries and condensed milk. It was basically a fruity sugar bomb, perfect for a warm summer night. Reminded me of Filipino halo halo, or a Korean patbingsu. The price isn't bad either at $8, especially for fresh fruit.

Urgh. Cholados are this delicious concoction of fruits, shaved ice, syrup and condensed milk. It may be a 1000 calories per cup but insanely worth it. We ventured onto this place and were so happy. Please note they are cash only and each cost about $8-9 a pop. The atms closest are those of delis so I'd suggest coming prepared. The process is smooth and they get your orders back quickly. The staff follows protocol and ensures everyone gets their orders quickly and no one stays in the venue for too long.

I think I've come here all my life for cholados and never had a problem. Prices are definitely overpriced and have gone up over the years but I never complain. I only get it a few times a summer, and rent is high in the neighborhood. There's just this cholado craving that I get on a hot day, and this place definitely satisfies it.

Not a big fan of this cholado as I requested mine "con todo" aka with everything and somehow I ended up with a million pineapples and maybe one strawberry and a bite of a banana. What?! I mean, I love some pineapple but it made the entire drink taste like pineapple juice with milk- not the best.

I was craving a cholado & I had this spot bookmarked for the longest. Fruit was fresh. Very yummy. The nice man that worked there was super friendly! He even recommended where to get some good empanadas. I'd definitely go back there.

Don't listen to me because I am Asian, listen to me because I am round lol So, this place is super bare bones, it's really just a counter, there are no seats, no decor, no nothing really. The place is also a one trick pony, the cholados are the way to go. I came yesterday when it was 90 degrees and oh Sweet Moses was it good. I didn't want to walk and eat, since this sucker is kinda messy, so I stood and ate at the chest high counter. The food: Cholado Regular- Cholados are essentially a fruit juice cocktail with crushed ice with condensed milk, strawberries, bananas, pineapple and coconut shavings on top. I really love this and it's fruit, so it must be healthy(pay no mind to the mounds of condensed milk) lol The fruit cocktail is sooo refreshing on it's own. I like to take the lid off, dig from the top condensed milk layer first, then I mix everything with the juice. *does a happy dance* http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=IVaMC-hRdAM1A4dgHOoObg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA

I have a love for small businesses that do something really well. This place is definitely the palace for cholados. Whether its cold or hot, wet or dry, the cholados here are going to to give you the buzz and fix that you need. But what is a cholado? In sum, shaved ice with some fruit (bananas, strawberry, coconut), syrup, and condensed milk. It's in a 16 ounce plastic cup with an accessible lid. Served with a straw and spoon (that fits in the hole). So good, you'll happily crash from the sugar high afterwards. 2017 price for a cholada: $7.

    $6 Regular Cholado

I was introduced to this Colombian dessert by my friend, Ben L. I have no experience with South American desserts so this was a treat. Cholados are not really my type of dessert, but I can see why people would like them. A $6 regular consists of a huge cup with a layer of fruity crushed ice that tasted somewhat like guava, a layer of strawberries, bananas, and canned pineapple, another layer of shredded coconut, and all topped with condensed milk. The slushie thing at the bottom was so refreshing. If only 7-Eleven served that ice as a slushie. I don't like condensed milk, so it would have been perfect for me if I could get a huge cup of that fruity crushed ice topped with the fruit and shredded coconut. I guess it wouldn't really be a cholado then, but oh well. Cholados are really great for a hot summer day or night. If I'm in the area, definitely coming back to see if I can get one without the condensed milk.

Delicious!!!!! great for when you craving a light and healthier dessert. Been coming here for a long time, usually in the Summer. *********For my surprised still delicious in the winter ;). ******** {I got he Regular Cholado} ~Shave ice, Passion Juice with fresh Banana, Pineapple, Strawberry, Condense Milk, top with Coconut sprinkles and a cherry on top. What a Delish!!!! Just by describing it makes want to get one. :p The blend from the ice to the fruits is a perfect match, every scoop is a tropical paradise. The pictures don't do justice to the taste, it might look overwhelming but is totally the contrary. The taste is light and the fruits are fresh and sweet. Love it!!!!

Chocado was ok, wouldn't recommend or comeback. Service is ok, no place to sit. Overpriced, you pay 8$ for a mediocre cholado.
