Baby! If you want to get some authentic Mexican food in PG county you gotta stop by here! It might not look like nothing from the outside but inside...bright artwork on the walls and the smells of good food cooking on the grill. I like how they have the stations for you to order for yourself just in case you don't speak Spanish and the workers might not understand what you want. So with this option to order on the console there is no confusion. You still do have the option to order at the counter, but I believe that might only be cash. With the consoles you only use a card and the workers are really nice. I was greeted when I walked in which is a plus with today's workers sometimes act like you are invisible. So I ordered some nachos, churros, and red queso Birria tacos and when you tell me they were the truth! Some of the best Mexican food you will ever eat outside of actually going to a Mexican vendor on the streets of Mexico. I'm sorry, there's nothing authentic about the food here. The consome doesn't taste like birria consome. It tastes funky like there's something weird in it.. chamoy?? Is that why it's red and dyes your fingers?? The salsa roja is literally just gross. Smoky, spicy, pero lacking essential flavor. The horchata tastes crazyyy like the Red Hot candies. It's watered down, you won't taste the arroz flavor. I'm pretty sure it's a powder mix. The Birria "taco" is LITERALLY a Birria quesadilla. It's served with soggy, under salted steak fries. The flour tortilla is soft and soggy, tastes and feels like a flatbread. And the whole thing tastes like cheese pizza because apparently they decided not to use the proper cheese for quesabirria. It also had a melted plastic taste imbedded in it. Not sure how or why. Very disappointing, muy decepcionante. The decor is very inviting and LOOKS authentic but it tastes like someone who never had Mexican food cooked it. As I was observing the cooks, I noticed one of the cooks only had a glove on his right hand and not his left hand. I asked him where his other glove was and he did not respond. Mind you, I'm really big on food safety and using gloves on both hands. When I tried to speak to another staff about the issue , they didn't understand English. " Food so good makes you wanna smack ya mama" a true statement from a customer. GUYS I WILL AGREE food is amazing, I know it's just tacos but, I am a true fan of authentic tacos and elote (corn). I am picky and cannot stand tacos that are not fresh a full of flavor. You don't have to worry about that here, this place has truly satisfied my tastebuds every single time I come without disappointment. I got the juicy traditional chicken shredded tacos with a crazy corn cob on the side. I must say their supplier for corn is great and I wouldn't change it. The corn comes out fresh and hot loaded with true authentic cheese, mayo spread, and Tajín. I am not from the area but will be more than happy to drive down just for this spot! The location is in the Panadería centro americana, a cute place. Only improvement I would suggest is an updated bathroom. I would love to be able to take cute flicks to promote visitors. Do you remember the "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld? "It's important not to embellish on your order, no questions, no compliments..." This restaurant is the street taco version. The food is so good that I'm willing to disregard the signage in multiple places pretty much yelling at anyone for having allergies or complaints. One legit point was that this food isn't Tex-Mex - don't be expecting sour cream, guac, rice and beans on the side. You're going to get onions, cilantro, and lime and like it. I do wish they used the wall space to highlight birria meat and the red taco - it's unique and worth explaining. The meats were very flavorful! The corn tortillas greasy and crispy. We ordered #1 and #2 and tacos (shrimp, fried pork). If I were to knock off half a star, it would be because of these minor reasons: 1) The mini soup was the size of a dipping bowl and flavor didn't stand out so next time we'd opt for another side. 2) The plates came out with a plastic sleeve - I don't know if they're trying to save on cleaning or what. 3) Also, there are no plastic utensils available except what they give you when you order which is just the spoon if you order soup. They did have plenty of napkins. Bathroom was very clean and so was the rest of the restaurant (but we also came when it had just opened). From other reviews, it looks like they've moved to a contactless system with a kiosk and QR code at the table. So, that makes it less intimidating to eat there unless you have a complaint. The Queso-Birria tacos were super cheesy! We appreciated that they didn't over salt their items, so you can taste the ingredients. Unfortunately, we weren't a fan of the elote as it was too sour/tangy for us, but I think that's more of a preference of taste. I think I'd like to try out their fish and shrimp or asada tacos next time! There is a mini hot sauce/topping bar, but bring your plates because there aren't any condiment cups. My first time checking out this spot was a week ago my friend told me that she really loves their tacos. I was a little scared because I like sour cream and cheese on my tacos. But baby I now know that I don't need sour cream and cheese because the flavors that these tacos have are perfectly find. I had the shrimp ones. Next time I will get them on a flour tortilla. I came to El Papi Real Street Tacos, an authentic Mexican restaurant for their Queso-Birria Tacos. They have pretty good reviews on Yelp so I had to check them out. I placed my order in person but I would suggest ordering over the phone especially during lunch and dinner hours. The wait times can vary between 15 - 25 minutes. You can place your order in English or Spanish. They have a variety of Birria options to choose from which include the Patricia's Queso-Birria Sample, Birria tacos-Spicy Brisket and Papi's 2 Queso-Birria tacos and Birria Sample (no Cheese). The staff recommended the Patricia's Queso-Birria Sample, which comes with 3 Queso-Birra Tacos and 1 mini Birria Red Soup Birria Tijuana style. This sample is amazing and filling, I ended up coming back the next day for another order. Keep in mind this sample doesn't come with a side. They give you the perfect amount of Birria Red Soup which is full of flavor. I paired my tacos with a Mexican soda, aka a coke made with sugar it comes in a glass bottle. I didn't eat it the first night, but the second night I ate all of the toppings on my tacos and they were amazing. The shrimp tacos I got the first night, were just ok. If you are like me and absolutely detest raw onion, at least give the onion toppings a try. They weren't as pungent on the tacos and delicious cooked in the soup. My, my, my... I was surprised! Did I say I hate raw onions? The restaurant is in a small shopping center off of Branch Avenue. Cramped parking, but there is parking. It gets quite busy! On a winter evening during the pandemic, my little family and I ordered pickup from this small taco shop inside a strip mall in Camp Spring, a 15-minute drive from our home in Southeast D.C. The Washington Post's "Best Casual Restaurants in 2020" list brought us to El Papi and we're glad it did. Here's our experience: 1) Safety: They've transformed their space into a clean, safe distance space during the pandemic. Arrows on the floor guide you where to go and where to stand keeping distance from others. Masks are required and staff are wearing masks and gloves. 2) Food: The signs on the walls make it clear what they do and don't do. They focus on Mexican street tacos and have a small, yet mighty taco menu. The tacos come in corn tortillas and never flour (don't even ask reads a sign). Yelp directed us to the queso birria red tacos and they were great. However, the carne asada tacos were the winners with bold flavor. On 9 September, this place was reviewed by a food critic in a major newspaper, intentionally unnamed, so of course I wanted to go and I ordered the house speciality, the brisket birra taco and the birria consommé for dipping.This taco was meh, 2/5. The consommé was so greasy it was inedible. Since we had gotten out order to-go, I put the soup in the refrigerator figuring to scrape off some of the grease. The ratio of grease to broth was so lopsided, I tossed the entire soup. See my birria consommé photo and you'll see what I mean. Perhaps street consommé is suppose to be this greasy, I dunno but it tasted horrible. Or perhaps the server just forgot to stir the pot so the content is balanced. I dunno. This soup gets a negative 5. We also ordered a spicy pork taco and chicken taco. They both rate 5/5. Next time, if there is one, we will stay away from the speciality, no birria anything for us. Not a long await considering, orders are made to order. Cashier was warm and courteous. Employees behind the counter all wore protective masks. Where do I start! This place is amazing! I came with a friend spur of the moment and it was everything and more. We both ordered the Birria's with Queso and mini soup (their consommé) and a churro. The Birria with Queso had an addicting fresh flavor, it was crispy, cheesy, just enough meat, and the onions and cilantro was the perfect balance, the consommé was a well flavored broth and let me tell you it was NOT salty. It had meat and onions, a few radishes etc. Also the red hot salsa they added on the side, which I added was soo good. It added a nice kick to it. Let me say they have perfected this dish! No Lie! The motto of this restaurant should be, " it's my way or the highway." Their version of real street tacos is traditional, 2 layers of soft corn tortilla shells containing meat, diced white onions, and cilantro with a side of a slice of cucumber,  a slice of red radish, a lime wedge, and 2 types of salsa. That's it, take it or leave it! No lettuce, tomato, sour cream, pico de gallo, ground beef, hard shell tacos, or flour tortillas for your tacos. My wife and I were curious about their "real street tacos." We got Rudy's All Birria Sample #1 and two Barbacoa(lamb) tacos. The Rudy's All Birria Sample #1 had a Red Pollo taco, a Mulita Mix Pollo-N-Birria, a Patricia's Queso-Birria taco, and a mini Birria soup. The Red Pollo taco had pieces of chicken with diced white onions and cilantro. The chicken had a very mild flavor and was a little dry. It had no noticeable seasoning, it tasted natural. The corn tortillas and everything else were typical tasting. The tortillas were red in color supposedly because they are dipped in birria soup. The soup flavor was so light in the tortillas, it wasn't noticeable. The salsas were needed to give this taco some depth of flavor.    They provide 2 types of chile salsas, one was green and the other was an orange color. They were both very hot with a simple chile flavor.    The Mulita Mix Pollo-N-Birria was a flour tortilla with a small pan-fried chicken fillet, beef brisket birria, and a small amount of melted cheese. This is not a taco. The chicken, beef, and cheese were very mild in flavor. The chicken and beef were a little dry and firm. The beef had a light flavor of seasonings and spices from the birria soup. The flour tortilla was typical in taste and texture.    The Patricia's Queso-Birria taco had beef brisket birria meat, cheese, cilantro, and onions. The beef had a light flavor of seasonings and spices. The beef was somewhat tender, but a little dry. This taco had the most depth of flavor. Patricia is the owner's wife's name. The owner is Rudy Zamora-Herrera.    The Barbacoa tacos had shredded lamb meat, cilantro, and diced onions. The lamb meat tasted boiled. The flavor was very mild and it wasn't gamey. It was tender and somewhat moist. The red corn tortillas were the same as in the Red Pollo taco.    The Birria soup is made by simmering steamed beef brisket, seasonings, herbs, and spices in a slow cooker. The beef is removed and the liquid is used for the soup. The soup was spicy hot with a complex flavor profile. It had herbs, spices, and seasonings. When it was warm, it had an overwhelming pungent flavor like cumin, ginger, and bay leaf. When it was at room temperature, the pungent flavor subsided and the soup was somewhat balanced in flavor and decent tasting.    The dining room was very clean. Restrooms require a numeric passcode to enter. We didn't use them. Ordering is through their 2 kiosks. They have no paper receipts. All receipts are emailed. They don't give refunds. The service was reasonably quick. Since street tacos have only a few ingredients, the meat is where most of the flavor comes from. Look for flavorful meats if you want a flavor profile that is well-rounded, well-balanced, and satisfying. read more

Phenomenal experience. Got there a few mins before closing and they still saw us. Unlocked the door and fired up the grill and everything! Not to mention the food was so dang good. Had the number 5. The birria soup was so flavorful and the tacos were as well. The shells were even delicious. Been trying to get to this spot for two weeks straight and I am so glad they looked out for us this time.
