I wish i could give this place (el paso now senor birds) 0 stars. Any mexican restaurant in athens is better than this one. Please what ever you do, do not order a skinny marg from here. Frozen margs are good bc they are premade. Anything on the rocks- run. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. I came here on a big game day, so this was one of very few places without a wait. We were able to be sat immediately, but I will say the service is the reason for the 3 stars. Before we get to the food, our server looked a little upset we didn't get drinks besides water, and even though they weren't too busy, she gave us the wrong amount of enchiladas and charged us for bottled water instead of just free regular water. Of course she fixed it, which is greatly appreciated. Now food, the flavor was there and definitely worth it. It didn't take too long either so that's a plus. They give you complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip. Overall, I wouldn't come back here unless someone wanted to really go. read more

I recently dined here for dinner and it was the perfect set up! We sat outside and were able to watch the current basketball game on the jumbo tron while eating and drinking! I got the enchiladas and they were pretty good. The best part of my meal was my MEDIUM margarita. I mean this thing was huge for a medium! I certainly had a fun night! For some reason a DJ was playing all night and everybody placed right in front of him were forced to listen to his awful music mixing and singing. When asked to turn down his music because nobody could hear, he wouldn't (even when server asked). And when he wouldn't turn it down a little bit upon multiple requests, he turned it right back up 5 minutes later. I don't know what this transition from El Paso to Senor Birds is, but prices are higher, drink sizes are smaller, and you can't even hear who your at dinner with because of the DJ. What is going on El Paso? or Señor Birds? Youre not a night club, you're a restaurant, why are we having a DJ blast music that will damage people's ears and ruin a persons entire experience. The staff was VERY young this Saturday afternoon, but the service was fine. It's a college town with college servers. Don't expect experienced servers. Cut the kids some slack. My wife got a chicken quesadilla ($7) and she loved it as it was full of, are you ready, actual chicken with just the right amount of cheese. It wasn't heavily seasoned, which suited my wife's taste just fine. I had the Birria Tacos, one of the Specials, at $13.99. 3 good-sized tacos on a perfect, fresh, flour shell that was warmed/grilled just right. Like my wife's quesadillas, my tacos were filled with meat. They came with a cup of dipping sauce (which could have been spicier), a green salsa, once again mild, and chopped onions and tomatoes. I went on an extremely busy day which is to be understood, but the service was disheartening. My friend and I were the only black people in the outside restaurant area and our server probably attended to us once. Even prior to that, they just placed us anywhere in the restaurant, without cleaning the table which we had to ask for which was very interesting. It was cleaned with a dirty rag and the same stains that were on the table remained on the table after. We ordered queso, and had to repeatedly ask if we could get more chips and for a reheated dip, and after 10 minutes it finally returned to us without the chips, which eventually made the queso cold again. We also had to keep walking up to the check in desk to get any type of service and the tall boy with curly hair walked away and acted like he was going to get the manager but just walked away. read more

Cool spot and great service. It is tucked away but great outside area and huge bar inside. Hoping people know it's there and they get an Instagram. Big menu. They gave us a brown dip with our chips...I think it was a black bean dip but also had all the regulars. Margarita was big and they had a ton of flavors. Lots of fruit and garnishings in the jalapeño pineapple margarita: aloe, blackberry, pineapple, jalapeño...they definitely didn't skimp. So glad to get a Mexican spot downtown. read more

We went for our friends birthday since this place was recommended for the drinks and atmosphere. Our waitress was new but she was very kind. We ordered 4 margaritas. 2 of each the same but the skinny margaritas tasted like pure agave with no tequila even with ordering top shelf tequila. My other friend ordered a spicy margarita with light cucumber and it literally had almost a whole cucumber cut up in it so much she had to spoon out and still drank it even tho it wasn't good. I ordered a top shelf marg with no orange juice (because it said it came with it on menu) when I got it all I could taste was OJ so the waitress said she would have bartender make another one. The bartender then comes to the table with drink in her hand and said with an attitude "what is wrong with this?" I said I ordered no orange juice and she said it doesn't have any it has orange liquor. Well it doesnt take that many brain cells to think maybe if I don't want OJ I probably don't want orange liquor in it. First of all, I have never had a bartender, leave the bar and come to a table and question a customer like that. She was rude and slammed the drink on the table and walked away the waitress. The waitress Kindly asked if I wanted them to make me another one and I said yes, please. She then left the Margarita with orange on the table. the manager then walks over to our table, grabs the drink off the table and walks off. He didn't ask what had happened or any concern. He was just mad that she left the drink on the table. I guess he then proceeded to go over to the bartender and look at us with dirty looks and talk about us. The waitress brought over the new margarita and it literally tasted, like crap so I said I didn't want it and to take it off my bill. She was always so polite and said OK. I'll go speak with the manager. The next thing we know is, she said I had to beg him not to charge me for the drink meaning herself because he said that she made the mistake of the drink and it would have to come out of her paycheck. We were all appalled. The bartender was the one that made the mistake and the fact that the manager blamed her and was going to charge her for it was unbelievable. I have never heard of a restaurant ever doing that to their employees we all hope that she finds a new job and we will definitely not be back there. read more

One of the most mid/lower mid Mexican restaurants in Athens. Fish tacos were ruined by using low quality ingredients. The fish tasted so excellent on its own, but the taco was covered in plain iceberg lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and cheese. Not the most ideal for a fish taco. It also did not come with a soup or salad like the menu said, and the rice was very bland compared to most average Mexican rice. The burrito combo had the same problem. Very bland ingredients, I would not return here again or choose this over the many other great Mexican restaurants in Athens. Thank you for the meal though read more

Service was terrible. They were 20 minutes late for our reserved table, and proceeded to give that table to another group. Unfortunately, this is the 2nd time this has happened at this restaurant. It took an hour total of waiting to receive a table and to be assigned a server or even order drinks. After all of that, they still gave me the wrong order for my food. read more

I've been here probably 3 times now but the most recent visit was not good. We went on Thursday and it was really busy, they told us 30 mins for a table but it took 45. We got to the table and our server was nice. One of my friends ordered just queso and they brought her a Caesar salad. Someone else got a tower of Michelob. It wasn't on the menu, but the server should have told him the price because the tower was $65 which is an insane price! He was not told how much it would be before hand. They asked to talk to the manager about the price but he didn't seem to care and they still had to pay the full price. Then as we were leaving some young man came up to the guy who ordered the beer and said he was the owner/manager, apologized and told him he could keep the cheap plastic mug that comes with it. Turns out he wasn't the manager because he went over to an employee, started laughing, and left the restaurant. Our group was not treated well at all. Yesterday was my first and only time visiting this place. We went for a friend's Birthday and ordered four drinks from the bar. I asked for light cucumber in a margarita and had to scoop a huge pile out to be able to drink it. Two of my friends got margs that tasted like they had no alcohol and one even said it had a soapy taste. One margarita was sent back with the request of no orange juice and was replaced with a marg with orange. The bartender came over and confronted us about the drink we sent back. The manager never came over, though he knew we were having issues. He just kept looking at us and sending the server to collect the wrong drinks off the table. Our server said this restaurant charges the server for items sent back. I have never seen this and i don't appreciate any establishment treating their workers that way. I hope our server finds a different job, but we won't find out because we will NOT be returning. The management is poor and very unprofessional, as is the bartender. Do better. Or don't.
