First of all, the ambiance is perfect for a Mexican restaurant. But ambiance doesn't fill the belly, and what's on the plate is what counts. Chips and salsa service was immediate. The mole was good, but the salsa tasted like it was from a jar marked "mild." It actually tasted like a little thicker V8 juice. Not my thing. I'd like a little spice. I opted for the Birrias tacos, and they were delicious. The pickled onions were on point, and the dip just elevated the whole dish. My wife wanted the two quesadillas, but she was hesitant because of the $19.00 price tag. I said it must be premium quesadillas, after all, they were steak. Her disappointment when the dishes arrived was obvious. I got three tacos with charro beans and rice plus the dip and chopped onions. She got two small quesadillas that were halved with what they call a guacamole salad. That's a salad? That's $19.00? It looked nothing like $19.00. It looked like a $12.00 lunch special. No rice. No beans. Just those poor quesadillas with about a tablespoon of guac on some old lettuce and a whole lot of open plate. If you're going to serve such a meager offering maybe use a smaller platter. It was embarrassing. My wife is not the quiet type. She asked our server if this looked like $19 worth of food. Her response was "that's what it is." And we were basically left alone for the rest of our meal. I gave her my charro beans since the only side she got was that little bitty salad. The kicker was that she doesn't even eat guac, so that was mine. It was about a couple of chips worth. I know the price of ingredients has risen. My dish was definitely premium and worth the price. Hers was nowhere equal to mine. There are some pretty good Mexican restaurants in Lafayette, but this El Paso is far from the top of that list based on our recent experience. read more

Anyone else always order the same thing at Mexican restaurants? I always get shrimp fajitas with a side of cheese dip or shrimp/fish tacos. However, on this particular Taco Tuesday, I switched it up and ordered Chicken Chimichangas at @elpasomexgrillambassador. They were delicious! Especially the edge of the tortilla wrap were it was crispy . They I scooped up the chicken that fell out with a chip.... whew! A whole experience. Who ever owns this place needs to seriously check all of their employees from Tuesday the 23rd around 2:50. Sunday July 16, 2023 my daughter, son-in-law and their 2 little girls ate dinner at El Paso on Amb Caff, the one by Sushi Masa. She ordered an extra burrito to go, went to eat it Monday and there was something in it that could have had potentially deadly effects had she swallowed it. I'm just shocked. We really enjoy this place as a family. My kids eat the usual chicken tenders and curly fries. My husband, the steak fajitas. They've always come Out perfectly seasoned and amazing. It comes with rice, lettuce, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and refried beans. He's always been very happy with it! I've recently ordered the fish tacos and it was amazing. I loved the mangos and the crisp veggies. I ordered tamales on the side. Loved the tamales, did not care for the tomato sauce on top. Our favorite is the chips and salsa of course. It was a little spicy today but still very good. Their mole is yummmmmmmm we cannot get enough! We come back for the friendly and attentive service. This ends with chunks of metal in your food... but first... You have to be kidding. We're all hungover after a strong show at the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans. Olivia finds this place next to the hotel. Everyone eats weird but we can all find something to eat at a Mexican place. This place would be perfect if anyone that worked in the front of house cared. Our waiteress/bartender - there didn't seem to be anyone assigned to either - took our order for the four of us without writing any of it down. We've all seen waitstaff that can do this without missing a beat. Here, we all knew this gal wasn't that bright and we were right. Every one of our orders showed up wrong. And once we got them fixed, we never saw our waitress again. The sign out front said 2 for 1 margaritas on a Patron-sponsored marker board with Patron bottles around it. Cheap Patron margaritas? Hard t imagine. When I asked - Nope. They use Sauza. They just sell em as Patron. I should send a pic of that sign to Patron. The food wasn't bad once they got it right. Great salsa. But nobody there seemed to want to find you to help you, serve you or even take your money. And there were far more staff than customers. And now, as @Egglester rises from a nap to go sell pre-show merch, she eats the rest of her bean burrito only to find a chunk of metal in it that looks like the back of an earring that went thru a garbage disposal. This El Paso has changed names and owners over the years and finally, it's worth going to! In the past, the service was horrible but that has all changed. They seat you quickly, the servers keep your drinks filled and the kitchen brings out the food correct and hot. One thing we really like is that have something of an A le carte (pick your own) section of the menu where you can get a taco, a flauta, burrito,etc and skip the beans, rice etc. My wife is a small eater And can't eat many restaurant dinner plate options so she really likes to be able to just pick one item and even sides are priced separately to make a mini meal. Aside from that, my favorites are the enchiladas and the fajitas. They provide free chips and salsa and also a bean dip which I find most delicious. I was not happy with my order at all because my food was very cold. I ordered delivery through GrubHub it took about an hour for me to get my order. My drinks came in cups that were not sealed. Never in my life have I particularly cared for Mexican dishes, but when my boyfriend suggested that we try this restaurant my palate has never been the same. In the past five months or so, we have become "regulars." Great service, prices and the menu items are delicious! We enjoy the atmosphere where everyone knows your name and we know theirs. Speaking of names, I cannot go without mentioning our favorite waiter, Mr Antonio. He is probably the eldest of them all yet always remembers exactly what we like. The employees were nice, but our waitress was lacking, she never even took our drink orders nor food orders, another person did, and our waitress just came out to bring us food and helped us after that. They always have two for one ritas and the one on pinhook brings them both at the same time... I asked why and they told me management said to do that. We ordered drinks, martini and margarita. The first martini tasted like dishwater...the waitress replaced it with another but this one had gnats in the ice. The manager NEVER came by to apologize and the waitress acted like no big deal. The food wasn't up to the quality we had enjoyed in previous visits.
