    Melon Agua Fresca
    Julia V.

Simply delicious Mexican and Honduran cuisine that gives you a good bang for your buck. Due to the incredible value and large portion sizes, we were delighted to try the unique Honduran flavors that La Papa Loca had to offer. We ordered the Honduran Tacos, Pollo con Tajadas, and Birria Tacos. The Honduran Tacos were super flavorful, stuffed with chicken and topped with salsa, white cream, and pickled radishes. The birria tacos were also nice and juicy and although the shells could have contained a bit more cheese, the dish was still packed with lots of shredded beef alongside the consommé. The Pollo con Tajadas dish, however, was the star of the show. This dish featured warm and crispy fried chicken topped with pickled radish, soft plantains, and three different sauces. It was unique while still being familiar, akin to ordering chicken and fries from a Southern joint. Our server was also super sweet and she gave us free queso with our chips and salsa. La Papa Loca also had a variety of different agua frescas to choose from--from the melon juice to the warm and cinnamony horchata. I wasn't too impressed with the Jamaica juice but the melon juice was phenomenal. All in all, I definitely see the value and quality in a place like this and I'll certainly be back to try the menudo and famous "La Papa Loca" dish. 7/10 stars ~

Our first time here today and gotta say this is one of the best spots around for tacos and burritos. There's so much flavor in their birria consomé. The service is amazing and they seem to really care about how they treat their customers. 9/10 definitely want to try more food here again. Also for the ones who drink their bar area is really nice.

We finally found a terrific Mexican/Honduran restaurant in Lafayette that serves birria tacos. They are open late, which is fabulous, and the food is fresh and authentic. When we arrived, they were pretty busy, and the hostess offered to seat us on the less chaotic side of the restaurant. From the moment we arrived, every staffer we crossed paths with was smiling and welcoming of us. We were presented with a large and comfortable booth and attentively greeted by our waitress. There must have been a couple of large tables or a small party seated on the other side of the restaurant because service would sometimes get slightly slow. I'm sure they were over on the other side cleaning up, but whatever the case, our waitress apologized for making us wait. She was quite delightful. We ordered several things to try, and everything was delicious. Their food is not overly salty like many Mexican restaurants in the area, and they use delicious spices, like cloves, to season many of their dishes. The plantains were outstanding and one of my favorites. We will be back to try some of their other dishes very soon. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for the real deal!

Yes, an empty plate! Yes, we consumed every morsels of our wonderful dinner and drinks! The food and service here is excellent.

My plate and drink are empty! Why? Because it was SO GOOD! The food and service was outstanding! We'll be back!

Lafayette has A LOT of Mexican places. It's a running joke that every time new construction breaks ground here its either gonna be another Mexican place or another car wash. It's just ridiculous how many car washes and Mexican places we have...lol. Maybe that's why La Papa Loca is often overlooked. I think people picked a favorite Mexican place from the plethora of choices years ago and just stuck with it and never ventured out. A mistake, because this is truly the best one. La Papa Loca started out as a food truck with street tacos, gigantic burritos and a little thing called word of mouth. It soon became a brick and mortar place, but in a pretty terrible location that was hard to get to and even harder to park at. It's now moved into this place, which is better location wise, but still kinda off of everyone's radar. Pro tip-if the place is filled with out of town workers who happen to be the same ethnicity of the food, it's a very good sign you're in for a big treat. Everything here is delicious so my suggestion is to let the owners and employees feed you! Ask what they love here and then get that! You will not regret it!

First time at the new location. Great service and great food. The aguachile was terrific fresh slight acidity from the lime juice the shrimp were soft but not mushy. There was no fishy smell or flavor even though they were almost raw. I know the lime just helps to slightly cook the shrimp but they weren't in the lime juice that long. Haven't had a cerviche style dish that good in a long time. Simple but delicious The carnitas taco O MY!!! The tortilla was soft but chewy great corn flavor but the meat. Moist , full flavored my lips were kinda greasy after each bite. The meat tasted fatty but it wasn't it was chopped into a mince. Just freaking delicious. Haven't had a carnitas taco that good in Louisiana ever. Wish I had ordered more than 1. The hot dog was good but it was just shot dog. I will be back very soon. Thanks for a great meal

One of my go-to's spot in Lafayette, so I was stoked that there was a location closer to me.. however, the new location is not as good as the old location. I was a little disappointed. My most complaint is that they didn't wrap their tamales with the husk. It was so dry and inedible. The tacos were also mediocre to the original location. The Papa Loca potato was still good though. Note that we did order food when they first open the new location, so hope to come back to a more improved establishment in the future. The breakfast burrito is the star and it's not close. They put broccoli and squash in it. Sounds insane, shouldn't work, but it's one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in my entire life. Get the extra crispy bacon in it. Everything was texturally perfect and they've got this fermented hot sauce that goes with it. Not spicy, just adds a whole extra layer of flavor. A 10 out of 10. The coffee was the letdown. We did a few rounds (cortado, latte, cappuccino) and they came out inconsistent, milk to coffee ratio all over the place. Felt like whoever was making them didn't really know the difference between the drinks. If I'm dinging them on anything, it's that. My wife got one of those big healthy veggie bowls and it was pretty mediocre. Just lacked flavor. If super healthy is what you're after you'll be happy, but hers was a 3 and my burrito was a 10, so I ended up handing her half of mine. That's the deal here, it depends what you order. The veggie and vegan stuff is never going to hit like the real thing, but there's a ton of good options if you care about that. We also grabbed a bunch of their canned goods on the way out. Pesto, that hot sauce, radish kimchi, sweet potato kimchi. They make it all in house and you can tell there's a real passion for creating and doing new things. Super happy we found this one. Highly recommend, especially that burrito.

The interior of this location was very nice and welcoming. There was a good mix of seating options that seemed accommodating for both larger groups and smaller parties. The music selection was also enjoyable and added positively to the overall atmosphere. I ordered the shrimp and andouille omelette. I will say the presentation was very stark and uninteresting. Just based on how it looked, I would not have expected much from the dish. While I cannot quite pinpoint how it could be improved visually, it simply came across as boring on the plate. That said, the omelette itself was better than expected once I started eating. The bites that included both shrimp and andouille sausage were the strongest and most flavorful parts of the dish. Overall, if I were judging strictly on appearance, my expectations would have been low. Taste wise, I would give the meal about a 6 out of 10. I did notice several other dishes coming out to nearby tables that looked more appealing, so while this order did not fully impress me, I would not rule out returning. Next time, I would likely try something different from the menu.

The pork chop was cooked perfectly. It was juicy, incredibly tender, and honestly tender enough to cut with a fork. It had a great char from the grill that added so much flavor, and the pickled peppers on top cut through the richness of the pork perfectly. The dirty rice underneath reminded me of my mom's rice dressing and soaked up all the juices from the chop. It was one of the best pork chop dishes I've had. My wife ordered the smoke fried chicken, and it was also excellent. The crust was crispy while the chicken stayed juicy and flavorful. The sweet potato biscuits were light and delicious, and the pepper honey tied everything together nicely. For my taste, it leaned just a little on the sweet side, but it was still a very enjoyable dish. My daughter ordered the Social Cheeseburger with just meat and cheese. She loved it, and I was impressed too. Even with such a simple order, the burger was juicy, well seasoned, and served on a fantastic bun. She and my wife both could not stop talking about the hand cut fries. They were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and some of the best fries we've had in a while. My husband went to the counter to order lunch while I stayed behind, waiting for the server to return with drinks and take our breakfast order, she never did. The smothered pork dish looked worse than school cafeteria, and unfortunately tasted like it too. It was overly salty and the pork had a weird taste to it. The basil mayo was not a good match, I think regular mayo would have complemented the burger much better. I also asked to leave off the pickles and red onion. I added an over-hard egg, which was cooked perfectly. On the side, I ordered the yogurt, but unfortunately, I couldn't eat it. I was also concerned about the food handling.
