Many of the reviews for El Pique focus on service. Service was fine for me, the waitress was wearing a earbud and chatting with someone during my entire visit. However, she did check on us and asked if we needed anything. For me, I care more about the food. I haven't had Peruvian food in a while, so came here. We ordered the ceviche peruano, Lomo Saltado and Charcoal half chicken. We also were served unlimited chips & salsa. Chips and salsa were good, the salsa they had - not sure what it was but I liked it. The Ceviche peruano was good, lots of acid from the lime though, very strong lime juice flavor. Good amount of fish, some slices of sweet potato and corn. I used some of the chips to eat the ceviche which worked well. The lomo saltado came with rice, fries, beef with tomato and onions. The rice was fine, fries were crispy and not seasoned. The fries didn't need to be seasoned per the dish, and the sauce with it. The beef was very chewy, came with onions and three pieces of tomatoes. It tasted fine, nothing special. The fries being dipped in the sauce/gravy they had with the beef was really good. The charcoal chicken came with a salad, and fries. The salad had no dressing but they did bring sauces for us to use. Fries were unseasoned but freshly fried. Chicken was moist and flavorful. We were given 3 sauces - salsa verde, a red vinegar like one and one that tasted similar to spicy mayo. They went well with the chicken, but chicken on its own was fine. Overall, decent experience. Came here on a weekday at dinner time and we were the only two tables there. There is parking, and they do have deals like $10 for a quarter chicken, rice, tortillas, beans and a drink. Had us keep waiting over half an hour for LITERALLY NOTHING. I ordered their Parihuela here over the phone and the woman told me it would be ready in 10 minutes. We showed up and went in (this is about 15 minutes at this point), the woman asked us to wait another 10 minutes because the food wasn't ready yet. She had us PAY for the food and we went back outside to wait. We went to grab a bubble tea close by to give them a little extra time cuz it seemed like maybe they needed more time to cook it. My partner went back in to grab the food (about 17-20 more minutes at this point), and the woman finally tells us that the KITCHEN IS CLOSED. She gave my partner his refund in cash, and he was so shocked he just came back to the car. He is a pretty non-confrontational guy so he thought on it for a bit and went back in to ask why she kept having us wait and pay half way through if they weren't working on our food at all? She just kept saying sorry and got kinda rude back at him as if he shouldn't even be upset at the situation. Even though they had us waiting for food we paid for for over a half hour as every other food establishment around us closed. I'd like to blame it on a language barrier, but she rang us up for the food, had us pay half way through, and kept telling us to wait for the food to be ready before she finally decided to let us know that the no one was working on it. I have no idea what she was thinking, especially when she had the gall to be rude afterward when my partner asked why she decided to do that at all? I used to keep coming back here even with the mediocre service/food because I wanted to support a local business, but after tonight I'm DONE. Driving to Seahurst Park for a walk, I got a delicious whiff of chicken being grilled as I drove past El Pique. Throughout my walk, I plotted to abandon the dinner I had planned and get some of that chicken. I bought a half chicken that came with a side of rice and beans. For take-out, you go inside to pay and get the sides, then you take your receipt out to the grill to pick up your chicken. Since then, I've plotted to stop at El Pique when I found myself in Burien again. I have not dined there, but I noticed on my most recent visit that there is outdoor seating (not exactly scenic, it's along a busy road) and I've seen that all staff members were wearing masks. I haven't tried anything from the menu besides the chicken, rice, and beans. When you've found a winner, why try anything else? The chicken is flavorful and moist, and half a chicken is quite a bit of food. And, I'll admit it, I kind of love that my shirt smells like chargrilled chicken for the rest of the day! read more

We are so disappointed with our experience at el pique, we thought we had found a good place because the food was good, but when the bill came (hand written) , we realized they were overcharging us with twice the price of what we saw on the menu. When we complained we were told by the server these where special prices because of the hour and that they had given us a different menu, then when the owner came he explained that he made an exeption letting us in at 9:15 pm when the place closes at 10 pm and the inflated process were due to this, which made no sense at all, he was disrespectful and blamed us for getting there "late". I've always been wary of this Peruvian/Mexican spot because, frankly the interior is dark and dingy. The first time I walked in I walked out because place reeked of chlorine. So to be fair, I have never eaten off the menu, but they have recently very smartly adapted their business model to bring in those who don't want to eat inside. They've turned their parking lot into a gloriously large bbq pit on which they spit roast whole chickens every day. If the smell driving by doesn't lure you, then you really need adjust your senses. You can get the chicken whole or in half. Each comes with decent rice and beans and hand made tortillas. But the star is the Peruvian spice rubbed chicken. So tender and Smokey in flavor. One of the better grilled birds I've had in a while. It's a little pricey at $24 for the whole bird, but it made for plenty of yummy leftovers. At a time to support local, this is a good bird to get behind. Just make sure you wear clothes that you don't wanna wear again before washing as the bbq smoke smell will cling to everything as you pick up your feast. read more

My wife and I stopped here on a chance after seeing the BBQ chicken dinner stand outside. We decided to dine in and ordered two 1/2 charcoal chicken dinners and they were really delicious! Added a take home chicken enchilada for our daughter and that was very good too she said. The young lady that took our order and the other that brought our food out were both very friendly to us. The dinners were generous in the portions and reminded me of the great roasted "BBQ" dinners you order at the fair when I was younger. Ordered the peruvian 'leche de tigre', similar to the coctel de camarones but came out 1/4 of size in a martini glass. Ordered mezcal, it's a type of tequila, they didn't know what it was, originated in Mexico, and stuck with a shot of patron. The waitress said she didn't like the 'leche de tigre' because she's Mexican and doesn't eat peruvian food, and everyone prepping the food is also Mexican. I had no idea what to say, very awkward. I came in here recently for the first time with some family. I had always seen people outside grilling chicken so that's what I wanted to try. Went back twice over two weeks to see if it was consistent: it was. Oh wow. The chicken dinner on weekends comes with a whole chicken, large side of rice and beans, tortillas (I know, usually French fries but they are Mexican fusion as well) and two free cokes for $26. My family and I found this after our local spot Big Chickie closed in Columbia City. WHAT A TREAT TO FIND THIS PLACE!!! You can smell the wood grill the second you pull into the driveway, the salsa won best salsa a few years back, the help is always mega attentive and always makes our little one fell like an adult when ordering!! We love this place and it's open seating and all around local and family feel. The Lomo Saltado was great the rice was plain but it was good, still nice and fluffy. The green sauce is not the authentic Peruvian flavor. The fried rice was excellent! The half chicken was also VERY VERY delicious. The green pasta (tallarín verde) was very good as well. The Jalea was good too, but it was missing the canchita (Peruvian people know what that is. Believe me it belongs with the dish) Here is what kills it: The chips tasted stale. I'm sure because of the pandemic they haven't been selling as The salsas didn't taste so fresh either, feels like it has been sitting around. The al pastor tacos weren't that great. They had sauce on them, but weren't crisped (the meat and sauce together as in most taquerias). The "Mexican rice" was literally just colored orange but had ZERO flavor... I've never had Mexican rice that tasted that bland. Usually Mexican rice has a nice tomato/onion/garlic sauce. This was steamed rice colored to look like Mexican. They didn't have A LOT of their advertised drinks on their menus. Alt least sharpie them out of your menu. I named off like 5 drinks and kept getting told they don't have that before getting directed to what they did have. Seriously?? It felt like I was on the episode of I love Lucy, when they went driving cross country and stopped at some diner that had a long menu but only had ham sandwiches... just tell me what you do have and put me out of my misery already. NOT COOL! Menus did NOT look sanitized!! And how about the fact that yes it's the pandemic, but if you're going to SURVIVE by offering outdoor seating, INVEST in OUT door heat LAMPS, not room heaters that people and children can burn themselves on when touching them!!! Also you can SMELL the Fabuloso... that is NOT sanitary either! Your chips and salsa taste like that product. Not to mention Fabuloso does NOT kill viruses You're better off diluting some bleach with water and soap to make sure it's actually clean. This is your business, take PRIDE in it. People will come for your food ONCE but they won't return knowing this establishment doesn't care about re investing into it's self. Also I recommend sticking to one style of food. Mexican food is delicious and so is Peruvian, but both need to be made WELL. It doesn't look good or taste good if your mentality's "let's makes everyone happy and make both...but really bad." So my large family and I were very hopeful but sadly it under delivered in many important ways. Especially the heating and cleanliness. People can't sit and enjoy anything when they're freezing or afraid to get poisoned with over use of a cheap cleanser. Came back a couple days later and asked if i had left my glasses behind, same waitress with the same attitude acts like she doesnt know what glasses are, pretends like shes looking around the restaurant, looking behind things and on the floor...really?? My wife and I have been coming here since the place changed owners and they started serving Peruvian food about 2 years ago. My wife is Peruvian so she certainly know her national dishes and I enjoy the flavor. We've eaten at many different Peruvian joints in the U.S. and sadly there are only a handful in Washington, this being one of them. When they first opened up, the food was great, the portions large, the only downside was the service was a bit slow. Over this last year things have degraded though. My wife and I usually order the Jalea which is a piece of marinated fish fried, topped with a mix of seafood Calamari, scallops, shrimp, clams and mussles, then topped with a salad of red onions, cilantro and Peruvian corn (a much larger kernelled corn) marinated in juice. Typically the dish is served with a side of fried yucca plant. The combination of flavors is fresh and quite delicious. In the last the size of the portion has decreased. It was usually to find 4-6 large shrimp, 2-3 mussels and plenty of calamari and scallops. Then it was 3-4 shrimp maybe 1 mussel and a little less calamari and scallops. Then sometime about August they reduced the portion a little further and placed it on a smaller eliptical dish instead of a large dinner plate. This supposedly made the portion look bigger, old trick. When we ate last night, we found 1 mussel. 2 large shrimp and a spittering of small shrimps (like you'd find in a can) and a sparse amount of calamari and scallops. The yucca portions were half the size they were before and only 4 of them. Even the salad portion was skimpy, but the price still remained $17.00. We were quite disappointed. My wife mentioned something to the waitress who said the size hadn't changed, but my wife told her we had been coming for some time have noticed the ever shrinking portions. Now I understand when the economy took a dive many places did reduce their portions, but supposedly it's been on the rise the last couple of years, so I don't understand why they'd keep reducing the portions now, except for poor management on the owner's part. Which could certainly be the case, because it doesn't appear they are doing anything to drive business. Service is deplorable and the folks working there seem to be more interested in visiting with their own family and friends rather than taking care of customers. On a Friday night you'd expect them to be prepared for some customers, but my wife and I were the only ones there except 1 other couple and it took a long time to get our food. Our salsa ran out and we were finally asked if we wanted more, but then we had more salsa but no more chips. It's not rocket science to offer the customer a refill on both, but this is typical of the service. At the end of our meal I was given the bill so naturally I put my credit car in bill fold, and set it down. 10 minutes later still nobody came to pick it up, so I got up to head to the cashier station, and the server intercepted me and grabbed it. I continued to the cashier station, where there is man who usually sits there, but I haven't figured out what he does other than visit with friends and family. My wife came up, and the owner/chef poked her head out, evidently the server mentioned that we thought the size of the portions had changed. She insisted that they had not. It was like she wanted to argue the point. I could have whipped out my phone to show her the pics (I've added them here) but didn't want to waste my time. She didn't even offer an apology or explanation, only insisted that we were wrong. Given this and how she runs the business, I don't know that the place will last very long. Honestly I think the only thing keeping it afloat is the Mexican population that keeps coming in, which is probably why they keep the Mexican entrees on the menu. This is a shame, because Peruvian food is so much more tastier. I haven't seen them do much to improve the place, it's an old building, the bathrooms are not too clean, and half the time are used to store stereo equipment and other items. The drink prices are outrageous for the small drinks they are. Sometimes the Mexican music they play is so loud at times you end up with a pounding headache and can't even talk to the person across from you. It's nice to have some background music but it doesn't need to be at a 110 decibels. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results. Last time we came can got the chicken but there too the amount of french fries and salad shrank as well. I guess we've been insane for trying this place again. We are looking forward for the opening of Wyraqocha in Kirkland to provide an alternative, but there is San Fernando chicken in Seattle as well. read more
