The cash register area is where you look at a menu on a screen on the wall or a physical menu and place and pay your order with the cashier. We both ordered the Queso Birrieria. Personally, this use to be the spot for quesabirra but we stopped coming as much after they switched from goat to beef. I decided to give it a try after 1-2 years or so because I woke up craving good birria. This was honestly super disappointing. We ordered the trio - which stated it comes with chicharrones (usually includes fried pork belly of some sort not just fried skin, which is what I was imagining), chips, and tostones (plantain slices) - plus guacamole salsa, sour cream, and pico. We got chips, French fries??, and basic plain pork rinds (like from a gas station) - with no guac salsa. The service was ok, if anything I felt bad because there seemed to only be two people working the entire restaurant on a Saturday evening. Just the appetizer was 18$ and it was all types of inaccurate. I ordered a guacamole side in addition and the small little side was nearly 5.00$. The tacos itself were decent but nothing amazing like they use to be. Probably won't be back, not worth the price & it's unfortunate the items reads differently. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to stop by here as they have an offer (through BECU's Equity in Action) for this month to try out some of their offerings. We arrived and saw that they have quite a large space so plenty of seating, lovely decor and just cozy vibes overall. However this is not your usual sit down restaurant as you go up to the cashier to place your order. They do have a menu that is shown on their screen or physical menus. I got their birria ramen, my boyfriend got their quesabirria, and we got two tacos. The cashier was polite and friendly with us and anyone else who came by. It seemed that the cashier and cook had to communicate a lot as she had to remind him that our order was for here. My boyfriend's quesabirrias did come in a take out container but everything else came in as a regular dine in order. The tacos was very filling and the meats (asada and adobaba) was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The birria ramen was okay but the broth was way too salty and the ramen was not cooked fully which was disappointing as it is instant ramen and that is pretty easy to cook. The quesabirrias was good and so was their rice and beans. They do have a self-serve water station. The bathrooms were clean and lovely. Music was played at a decent volume as we could have a conservative without issues. Additional you can leave your table without cleaning as the cashier will come and grab them when you leave. Overall we would love to try out this place again in the future! It seems they are a local favorite as they kept getting customers for dine in and take out throughout our time there. read more

Wow--what an incredible find. We had a friend visiting from out of town (all the way from Wenatchee by way of Texas), and decided it was worth the trek across South Seattle to Birrieria Grumpy's on Interurban Avenue in Tukwila after hearing about it from a food blogger on TikTok. It absolutely lived up to the hype. We know our birria, so expectations were high. We ordered a variety of dishes--enchiladas, a keto taco, a birria torta, bacon wrapped jalapeños, and a crunch wrap--and every single item delivered. I started with the keto taco, expecting a standard (and often disappointing) gluten-free tortilla. Instead, it was made entirely of cheese--and it was one of the most delicious things I've had in a long time. Completely unexpected and amazing. I'm especially picky about tortas, and I can honestly say this was the best Mexican torta I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, flavorful, and satisfying. Beyond the food, the experience was just as great. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and we even had the chance to meet the owner, who shared the story behind "Grumpy Gramps"--a fun and memorable touch. I should've known when there are no customers in the restaurant during dinner time that the place was suspect. I ordered the surf & turf here. I've had surf & turfs at many other Mexican restaurants and this was by far the worst. First off it was $24 dollars, second it only had 2 small shrimps, third the amount of steak inside was ridiculous and sparse for the amount they charged for this dish. It was very poor quality as well. Then they loaded it with fries. I'm guessing they don't think people would open it up to look inside. I'm not that critical about food, but when you charge that much you should stand behind the food that you serve. Come on now! I should have taken a picture to show the poor quality. Yes, I could've driven elsewhere but considering where we were I was in a pinch & needed to feed my family. I told the server that I opened it up and was dissatisfied with what I saw inside and wanted a refund. The young lady had to call her boss for the refund. She stated her boss said that's how they serve their surf & turf. Really?!! That proved my point! She also said I had to call her boss to get a refund! SMH!! That drives home again the fact as to why there were no customers in that restaurant during dinner. I could be wrong and no I was not having a bad day. I don't mind at all paying for good food. Here on a quiet Tuesday night. Only customer at the moment but the restaurant is very welcoming. The decor, the music, it all screams authentic cuisine. Trini was my server and was extremely helpful. Had several recommendations for me; quesabirria tacos and a steak "grumpy" taco. I'm bummed I can't try the grumpy taco as is due to my small spice threshold. It comes with habanero sauce. I opted for it without and the taste was incredible. I added some green sauce she recommended and I demolished the taco. One of the best steak tacos I've ever had. I just started working in Renton and I am still exploring many of the food options. Birrieria Grumpys was a random find while looking for a quick and tasty dinner. I ordered the quesadilla and it exceeded my expectations! It was massive - I enjoyed half of it for dinner that night and the other half for lunch the next day. Packed with meat, wonderfully cheesy, and had this slightly spicy green sauce that was a great compliment with the meal. I grabbed the order to go - picking it up myself. The inside of the establishment looked pretty clean. There was a lot of construction going on in the parking lot, but it was still easy enough to find parking. I will definitely need to return to try the quesa-birria tacos. The meet was so tender, and the consume was flavorful without being too oily. The portions are large but not too overwhelming. I would say 2 tacos was perfect for me, but the nachos would need to be split between two people. I ordered the horchata, which I didn't love (too milky with not enough spices), but the food outweighed this for me by a mile. We came here after seeing this place on Instagram. I love birria tacos after having them in AZ so we came here. The location is pretty secluded but it's a nice place inside. You order your food at the front and they bring it to your table. They have ample seating inside and a nice ambiance. We both had the birria taco special with 2 birria tacos and consome. We also had a side of rice and beans. The 2 tacos were HUGE and absolutely amazing. They were queso birria with melted cheese and the consome and meat were high quality. The rice was also delicious and simple. The flavor was bursting in it all. That is why the beans were a little upsetting. They were plain pinto beans and they did not add seasoning or flavoring. They were the only thing at the table I didn't like. We also had chips and salsa and they came with 3 different salsas. None of them were chunky. I really enjoy the soup here, the ramen noodles are good and the deep rich broth is amazing! The Birrieria is tender and in abundance in the soup. A nice touch if radish and a squeeze of lime bring a brightness. I had the wrapped jalapeños this time and they were filled with cheese and more meet, delicious and you never know what heat will be there, they were perfect. They are never busy which is too bad because the food and service are excellent. They do have a counter where you order and the bring your food to you at your table. We decided to try a different Birrieria place since the delivery fee was less than where we normally order. First look at the guacamole photo. This is how it arrived dark and inedible. The sauces were not in containers but baggies that could easily be punctured. So the outside was greasy. The consommé was in a small paper cup that could've easily been tampered with. It was mainly grease. So I threw it away. My tacos were ok, not as much flavor as the other cheese tacos I get for other Birrierias. My husband said the burrito was ok. Since there are other Birrieria places around, I won't be pressing from this place again. It's too bad because I like supporting local small businesses, but if I'm sent products like what is pictured, I won't support this business. read more

I love my tacos and wish the tortillas were sometimes less dry and more flavorful. Birria is exactly what I'm looking for and Grumpys does not disappoint! Birria tacos are more pricey than normal tacos, but I think it's worth it. Food here is as filling as any other spot so price may seem intimidating, but you will likely be full or satisfied from one to one and a half items, so averaging $10-15 a person. To start, they have a large parking lot which is extremely convenient and easily makes the trip and experience worthwhile. No need to drive around looking for parking and eventually deciding to park far away and having to walk. I heard the crunch wrap was the MVP and the birria ramen is a pass, so I definitely took note of that. Birria ramen sounds so interesting but I believe it's unconventional for a reason and probably isn't as good as birria tacos. However, it is cheap for ramen so maybe worthwhile trying. Crunchwrap - the downside is that this item lays on a bed of oil. Very messy but flavorful. At first the outside looked dry so we were like okay cool, we have the birria from the tacos to dip. We didn't need it, but it did taste better dipped! The inside was saucy (and greasy) so it was not dry at all. Quesabirria tacos - a much cleaner option than the crunchwrap, these birria tacos are not leaking oil. We opted for the quesabirria over the birria taco because cheese sounded good. They're pretty solid on their own but the birria dip was fantastic. Rich broth that's not overwhelming and it enhances the tacos. Would definitely order both items again, but lean towards the quesabirria tacos for ease of eating and being a more simple item. Not to say the crunchwrap wasn't good, but it's definitely a heavier item. read more
