The absolute worst El Pollo Loco I've ever been to. I've been there twice. Once right after they opened the new restaurant and just recently hoping they improved cause it's close to my home and I love El Pollo Loco. First time my order was wrong and the chicken was so over cooked it was dry and tough. No surprise second time same thing but worse. I wanted to wait a number of months and see if they improved. NOT!!!!! WORSE the second time. What a shame management didn't train the crew better and do checkups to catch this. I asked for salad dressing on the side and they didn't give me any so I had to eat it dry . They basically gave me half of what I ordered for the same price ! I like El pollo loco, period. Their chicken is tasty, lean if you want, they have many healthy options and they are kinda family friendly. They give you a choice of sides from super carbs to super healthy. I like that for me and my kids. I am done with the kids menus in the US. Fried crap with an attempt to make it healthy by adding apple's isn't my definition of kids food. At Pollo Loco they offer many options for kids that pass my test. read more

We like to support our Santee merchants & restaurants, but the 8 piece family meal at El Pollo Loco was very disappointing. The chicken leg & thigh pieces were very small, and not what their ads show. The coleslaw was dry, and had very little sauce. The beans & tortillas were good, but for $20 everything should be good. On top of that they wouldn't honor their own coupon for a free stuffed quesadilla because our order was already submitted. Worst of all our salad was missing the salad dressing, and not worth driving all the way back for. Not one of our better choices for dinner! read more

This is the best El Pollo Loco location anywhere. I love eating here with my husband who eats here a couple times each week as he loves the food and staff here. Luz is the best!! I used to come here all the time with positive outcomes each time but tonight was different. Website said they close at 11pm on weekdays so I roll to the drive thru at 10:39 pm, I wait at the speaker for a couple of minutes and still hear no response so I move up to the window. The girl gives me the axe sign as if to say they are closed but the sticker on the window says it closes at 11. I guess they just didn't want to serve me because they would have to fire up the grill again or something. I don't like rolling up to a place right before it closes but 20 minutes before is a different story. Gotta say i'm pretty disappointed. read more

Out of any el pollo loco I've been to (and that's a lot) they have the best customer service. It's always clean. We are always greeted as soon as we walk in. Anytime we sit down to eat someone checks to see if we need anything, and they usually check in with us more than once. I've always had a pleasant experience here. I haven't been here in a long time and i wont be going back. I was told to be careful because the lid wouldnt fit. Turns out the tostado shell was broken to the point it was hanging off the plate. I didnt think too much about that but then it was also soggy and limp. The lettuce was wilted and brown, the rice undercooked, the beans were mushy, and the chicken was low quality. I usually go to their drive-thru once or twice in two weeks to pick-up lunch. The person taking orders is usually courteous but they almost always mess-up on the how many salsas i get vs how much I ask for. They always ask how much I want and I give them a reasonable number but always get much less than what I ask for. There was even a time, I had to just go in myself and get my own salsa (I was getting food for 5 people). Their food is okay. I had shrimp tostada today and only got 4 pieces of overcooked shrimp with the rest of the salad bowl... Meh. read more

I ordered a shrimp tostada and when they handed it me it had chicken in it and she said she would give me a side of shrimp and I said no I don't want chicken ... I get home and I'm eating it and find pieces of chicken in it . They should have made me a new one they just scraped out the chicken . What if I'm allergic or on a special diet . Love this location! I visited on a Friday afternoon and it was really busy. I was immedietly greeted by the cooking staff as i waited in line. The wait in line was less than a minute. My food was ready by the time I sat down at my table. The food was delicious, I ordered an avocado chicken bowl with a side of rice for my daughter. Halfway into the meal we were greeted by a staff member and asked how everything was and if we needed anything else. Almost as if we were at a very expensive steak house. By the time we finished our meal I placed everything on my tray to take it to the waste station, before I could stand up a team member came by and picked up my tray for me and discarded the trash. The staff here is great and makes you really feel like you are appreciated and taken care of. Will definetely be returning. read more

It's the closest one to me and that's the only reason why I kept going but when I order a chicken avocado burrito and there's NO AVOCADO that's it I'm done with this place, it's ridiculous. I visited your Santee store yesterday & I ordered the new stuffed quesadilla. It was horrible, it was cold & cheese wasn't melted. While I was sitting in the dinning room, a female manager asked me how I was doing. I told her about my quesadilla & she did nothing. She didn't offer to have it re-made, nor did she offer me something else on the menu. What's the point in approaching a customer to check on them, if your going to behave like a deer in headlights when they give you negative feedback?! This place always hits the spot! I was here earlier for dinner and it was so good! I got the chipotle burrito (chicken) and it was very yummy! My friend got the shrimp chipotle burrito and our daughter had the RBC burrito. They were both pleased with their food as well. The lady at the drive through was so awkward though, she was nice for the first minute and then turned rude the next (the receipt says Jose F). She pretended she couldn't hear and kept adding stuff on the order that we had not said. As we were driving off she said "don't hit the wall" to my friend, like wtf? No shit were not gonna hit the wall...maybe she heard me say she was an idiot to my friend after we had ordered? Anyway, the food is really good and the service is usually good, Maria G is always really nice and attentive. I've never been disappointed with the food or the service besides tonight. The store manager here deserves some praise. It truly saddens me to see how bad society has gotten. Just because you're a "customer" doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful to people and treat them like crap. He had apologized to every single person in line for being short staff due to a few call outs, yet he still got verbally abused by "very important people." The mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese were awful. The French fries my son had tasted like the lid fell off the salt container while they were salting the fries. My some couldn't eat it. Hi, I couldn't find my review to edit until now. So, my mom went the next day in the late morning to get replacement chicken thigh/leg and beans. She had to wait ........wait......for Johnatoan, and he was there. The employees kept here standing there for a long time waiting for him. He said to ask for him. HE NEVER EVEN APPOLIGED TO HER FOR HAVING TO COME BACK OR BAD CHICKEN OR ANYTHING. She told him she was upset at having to drive all the way back and waste 40 minutes and gas, and he nodded, he nodded, that's all. HA. So insulting. She said some other things I don't remember and he thru in an extra leg as a way of placating her. A LEG WHICH SELLS FOR $1.39. Her gas was more than that. AND YOU WOULD THINK HE WOULD HAVE, AFTER A PROBLEM, GONE BACK THERE AND MADE SURE THE COOKS GAVE ME GOOD CHICKEN, NOT BURNED. NO such luck, one piece, the leg, was okay but puny and the thigh was really overcooked, black and small again. Again, I could not eat it. Man, they just don't care about the customers, I guess, that is VERY clear. I still love Pollo Loco. This wont stop me from eating there. Just know the franchise owner makes a big difference on quality of FOOD AND STAFF. On the upside at the two locations that I love, the Cilantro salad dressing is great! I just love it. The salads are always fresh, crispy and tasty. People are divided, some love cilantro and some hate it. Well, I love it and the flavor is strong in this dressing and delicious. Even my mom who is one who does not care for the flavor of cilantro eats and likes it. I was surprised. Also the salsas on the salsa bar are excellent. I love the mild because of the tomato flavor. The avocado green salsa (I think it is mixed with jalapeno but not sure) is wonderful and very spicy, watch out. Then there is one like a pico, it is very good too. My daughter loves the green one. And they offer extra onions, cilantro, limes or lemons, and other things on the salsa bar too. I like it when you can help yourself to several, half of this one, 2 of of that one............ I still love Pollo Loco, but will NEVER go back to the Santee location. read more

This is the second time I go and I have been disappointed with the food and it's not exactly cheap but both times I wanted an item and it was not even on the menu so price wise you don't even know what you're going to pay. Anyhow, both times I knew what I wanted because I had gone online to decide prior to going. First time, they gave me the wrong bowl and told me it was the only one they had and the name was not the same as the one on the website. THis last time made me angry because I ordered the black bean bowl from the under 500 calorie menu. It's supposed to have avocado, black beans, cotija cheese, brocoli and pico de gallo. When I got back to work to have my lunch boy was I unpleasantly surprised at what I got. It was poorly served. The bowl looked too big but less than halfway full, no avocado or cotija cheese and about 5 little squares of the chicken breast for almost $7 REALLY?! They made me wait quite a while for this?
