Have had perfectly wrapped protein style burgers, other times it's a few small pieces of lettuce on top and bottom. Same with whole grilled onions. Either perfectly cooked/sweet (like a real "grilled" onion), or hardly grilled, borderline raw. The employees always say if your order isn't great to go back in, but if you can go back and they'll fix it, but once you've been in the drive thru lane forever- silly to go get off the car and go inside. Great news for the location is they continue to be very busy and good for meeting a quick need. To management - please review how the protein style burgers are made and appear. Also, missing were the cheese and grilled onions I requested. However they appeared on the other two burgers which were supposed to be a number 1. Craved a burger but didn't want to spend a bunch of money. We hit the Santee In-N-Out drive thru. The line of cars was long. It snaked through the southernmost end of the Kohl's parking lot. In-N-Out plays it smart. They have a staff member out there taking orders and relaying them to the kitchen. It really speeds up the process. Drive up, pay at the first window. When you get to the second window, your order is hot, fresh, bagged and ready to go. From getting in line to driving away took just 12 minutes. One Double Double Animal Style with grilled onions, one cheeseburger with onions, two fries well-done. $16 and change. Everything was prepared correctly. We arrived home and tore into it. In n out has always had a respectful professional staff until recently. This location is lacking on following burger orders and the thin girl closest to the register tonight making burgers needs to stop giving dirty looks to customers. If I want no salt fries or extra lettuce then it should happen. Tonight we had mini burgers with barely any toppings and it was disappointing to say the least. If they are cutting back portions to save money then I'm not returning. The burgers are only good if you get them how you order them, if I want McDonald's then I would go there. I have to say this probably has to be one of the best In-n-out burgers I've been to in San Diego. The staff is unbelievably great! Place was clean, food was good. Even though I was here close to closing time I got time to enjoy my food and wasn't rushed to leave that was nice. Plenty of parking at this location which is great. But, if I am on the go like I usually am, I like to use the drive through. I won't go if the drive through is really crowded, but I will go and wait in line if is not so crowded because the workers outside are so organized and use a system of give and take with the cars. It makes it easy to use and the line moves pretty quick. I usually just order a double double with no cheese and sometimes onions with a lemonade. It is a perfect lunch or dinner because it's the right amount of food to keep me going all day or night because I have healthy snacks throughout the day! The burgers are perfect from the bun which has crunchy edges but soft in the middle, perfectly seasoned meat, lettuce and tomato with their signature sauce on the burger. It's made fresh to order and the flavor reminds me of an old-fashioned hamburger joint because they have a simple, delicious, and affordable menu to offer! I love the whole concept of this place! You can also buy merchandise like their In and Out logo T-shirts. And yes, they have gift cards also which makes the best gift idea ever! Every time I come here, the drive-thru experience is frustrating. This is now the third time I've been in line first, only to have cars that showed up after me get pushed ahead because of their two-lane system. I understand the goal is to move cars faster overall, but the way it's managed feels completely unfair. There doesn't seem to be any consistency or effort from staff to maintain order between the two lanes. If you're not aggressive or constantly inching forward, you get skipped. It's disappointing because the food is usually good, but the drive-thru setup and lack of coordination from staff make the experience stressful instead of convenient. 11/10/24 - this is my last time here and my last check in. The last several times have been upsetting, either poor service inside or they open a lane up through drive thru and you are stuck in a long line. Done with it. I go here several months with sporadic service. Went through the drive thru and ordered a quad, 2 double double and 2 fries. They never repeated it back. Grabbed the food and arrived home. They jacked the order. Received no quad, a single burger out of no where and 2 double double and some with animal style. The 2 fries were correct. What the heck!? No monetary cost to me since I was not charged the quad. Messed up on 2 of the three burgers. I threw away the single burger. Not going here since you wait in a line for 20 minutes then get the wrong items when you get home after a long day of work. I didn't check the order when I left like usual. Go at your risk. I tried several times and the wait can be so long. I was in line for 20 minutes and gave up. I was lucky enough to see a big enough gap between the cones to get out of line. The whole parking lot was made for this In-N-Out. In all the years going to In N Out, I never knew they had an activity paper for kids. It was quite useful to have while waiting for the food.
