I think the food is great. But it's always so busy inside, so we usually just do pick up. Only there not so friendly when you pick up. I always tip. I really don't want to go back but it's the only place my daughter and I want faquitas from. I have tried to eat in twice and that was not a good experience. Table touching yes not just by my server but good teamwork the other servers that walk by our table and seen an empty plate she would ask if she could clear it awesome. Not once have I seen a server that is there and not happy lots of smiles that means a lot. What a delightful surprise! My daughter and I were in the area on Mother's Day, so we stopped in for lunch. Our meal started out with wonderful chips and salsa (that can be a deal breaker for me if those aren't good). Went through 2 bowls!! In a small town like pleasant hill,most of the places to eat are fast food and el puerto is one of the only heathy options. Every time I go here the staff is really friendly and the food comes out hot and fast! My go to is their chicken quesadillas, and they always put so much chicken in it I almost cant finish them. 10/10 would recommend! read more

We were in town visiting some family, and got in late and needed a bite to eat. We are from California were there is a lot of great mexican food, so we came in with low expectations. To our suprise, this spot was really good! One member of our party doesnt care too much for mexican food & was impressed at how solid this place was! I got the quesadilla fajitas (excellent), the member who isnt a mexican food fan got the pollo hawaiian dish (not the name but it had pineapples in it) - she was the first one finished, another got the fajitas. Terrible from the moment we walked in. Hostess didn't even use words with just held up her fingers to confirm our party number. No hello. No smile even. No "follow me" just took off around the corner at a clip that was almost hard to keep up with. After being seated our server gruffly asked what we wanted to drink. Water. He clearly wasn't impressed with our selection. Took him over 15 minutes to come back and take our order. Actual kitchen service was quick if incomplete. I didn't receive the appetizer that had been ordered. The chips were on the verge of going stale and the chicken in my tacos, while the flavor was good, was overcooked. Oh, and I wasn't asked if I wanted crispy or soft shells. Pretty standard question. Good thing I like either. Took twice as long to get the bill. Once we did it was slapped down on the table with no instruction as to whether we paid him or took our bill to a register. He never came back around to pick it up so we took it to a register. No one came there so we had to flag down another server to get the bill paid. Unbelievable. Will never go back. read more

We went in on a Saturday night with a group of 10, which often means poor, slow service. To my surprise we were seated and served right away. The service was fast and spot on. I had the chile rellano, I have only found a few restaurants that serve it the way I like it and El Puerto was one of them! For belong a Mexican restaurant in the heart of a small town, I wasn't sure what I'd be getting. I was pleasantly surprised! Everyone enjoyed their food. They even came out and sang happy birthday to our friend and had him wear a sombrero and gave him some dessert! We had a good time, the food was delivered tasty, hot and fresh. Great local Mexican food. We've tried many things from the menu and have never gone wrong. Recently the arros con pollo has been drowned in cheese, but just ask for less cheese. I should have written this review long ago. The first time we dined at El Puerto with reservation. Anyone who lives in the area knows the the space El Puerto occupies has has been the home of Big Burrito and another terrible mexican restaurant. After the first time we fell in love with the place. The food is great, the quality of the food and service is always great. We have been back over twenty times. We have some favorite dishes but we try to mix it up from time to time by trying new things. Everything we have tried has been great. If there was one thing I could changes it would be the the salsa they serve. It's refrigerated so when you get it its cold. It has good flavor but would be much better at room temperature. If you are out that way I would try El Puerto you won't be disappointed read more

When I was in my early 20's I had never really ate at authentic Mexican food restaurants. The extent of my experience was On the Border. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE On the Border, but being as they are a huge franchise I wouldn't call them authentic. It took me into my early 30's though to find an authentic, family owned Mexican restaurant that was better than On the Border, El Puerto is that restaurant! Very, very reasonable prices for the amount of food you get. I absolutely love their guacamole! There are multiple items on the menu that are fantastic! If it sounds good to you, trust me, try it. I don't live in Pleasant Hill anymore but when I am down visiting my parents I like to try to make it here every once in a while. read more
