Not enough help for lunch. We had large party but called the a couple days in advance. Seating took a little while for them to set up. My biggest disappointment was the salsa. It was awful. This was my first visit to Habanero's. I have my favorite Mexican spot in Grandview so I was a little nervous about trying a new place. I found myself in good hands with Christopher as a fantastic server. He guided me to order the Habey cheese dip. It was wonderful! Their chips are very thin and crispy how I like. The salsa served was very fresh and a tiny bit spicy, but not too much for the general public. Very fresh and tasty!! I decided to order a few things all the cart so I could try the menu items I generally like. Their refried beans were outstanding! I also ordered a fried ground beef taco with a flour shell and a cheese enchilada. Both were excellent! They were a little on the small side, which I didn't mind. Well the service was absolutely lousy sitting at the bar inside I was not the only one that waited an incredibly long time for a drink. Two people behind the bar, and as they would move around, they would stare at their feet to avoid eye contact. Basically you had to yell to get their attention. Generally, I judge a Mexican restaurant by their chips and salsa. The chips are basically middle of the road. I do like the fact that they have both a hot and mild salsa, but neither of those were great. Usually setting at the bar, the service is excellent. That's why we like to sit at the bar. This place is definitely an exception with decent service. It would raise my rating to three stars, which is average and this place excels at being average. read more

Tonight was hungry for some good Mexican food. The scene inside was very inviting. I loved the set up inside which made you think fun atmosphere. Luckily we made it before happy hour. Our sever came over to greet us and was very friendly. He brought us our chips and salsa but wanted a salsa with some heat. They did not disappoint. Our drinks arrived within a timely fashion. It was water and a pink lemonade. I ordered the happy hour margarita. Drink had plenty of alcohol but flavor did not hit me as awesome but alright. Last minute decision to grab some Mexican Saturday night and WOW what a great choice we made. Typically we go for the taco Tuesday special so I never venture out past that because who wouldn't love deep fried beef tacos. Well I went for the Mexican pizza this time and I was floored. Stopped in today for lunch and ordered the Fajitas to split between two of us. We ordered the combo steak and chicken, and it was delicious. The steak was tender and juicy as well as the chicken grilled very nicely. Also included was a generous portion of rice and refried beans as well as the garnishments including lettuce, pico d gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. We had 3 tortillas to share which was plenty for us for lunch. There are plenty of places to sit for dining including a bar area and two separate dining areas. Great time at Habaneros over Labor Day weekend. My wife was skeptical because of some of not great reviews on Yelp, but I really want to try their 747 monster burrito challenge. Turns out, her fears were needless, as we had a great time. Parking lot seemed packed when we pulled in on a Saturday at 5:15 but we were seated immediately, order taken and the waiter was surprised and trouble checked to make sure I actually wanted tot take on their burrito challenge, but I was sure. Orders were placed and food all arrived in less than 15 minutes. I had a great time going to town on this thing. I was packed with all their meats and cover is sauce and cheese which it so easy to eat. The staff was genuinely excited to watch me eat, as were some of the patrons surprisingly. I was given 30 minutes but only need 9:06 to complete the 5lb burrito. Got the meal for free, a short and was deemed "a unit" by one of the younger server, lol. sorry to say, their Margaritas are crap. If you are like me a good margarita makes a good mexican restaurant. The menu sells a top shelf with your pick of tequilla in a big 20oz glass. What you get is a fishbowl of sugary liquid tasting more like a juice box than an adult beverage. Why water it down, why add so much sugar, why why why. They menu says they add Grand Marnier - couldn't detect a hint of it. It should be floated no? They ask you to pick a tequilla from their 15 on the menu. I chose a good resposado, but couldn't taste any of it over the sweet and sour mix. Now I will say the fish tacos are decent, the chile relleno was an edible tex mex version. The mild salsa tasted like pizza sauce, but their hot salsa had a much better flavor with a little heat. The food wasn't horrible, the queso was pretty good, but the salsa is closer to marinara sauce or ketchup, so be aware. However this is my main complaint. Watch out for deceptive waiters attempting to get a double tip. Our Hispanic male waiter brought my grandmother the tab and it was $115 for all 6 of us. She luckily looked at the total, because when he brought her card back the total was $134 WITH the line to add a tip. At this point the receipt he brought was not itemized, which was a red flag. She was about to add 20%, but luckily she thought to ask for an itemized receipt. After about 5 minutes of waiting for an itemized receipt, we were finally shown our full bill. The waiter had already added 18% to our bill, and would've been receiving an almost 40% tip had we not noticed. Nothing on the menu or on any sign on the wall, that was visible to me, said anything about a standard gratuity. There were 6 people in our party, and we were at the restaurant for about an hour. We didn't require an immense amount of attention and certainly not enough to warrant a $46 tip. I later called the restaurant and they informed me that their policy was an 18% gratuity for parties of 8 or more, so we didn't even qualify in the first place. I'm a bartender, and I've worked in food service for my entire adult life, but this is ridiculous. I would strongly recommend the managers of habaneros begin requiring their staff to be transparent about any included gratuity for large parties, and make sure guests get itemized receipts. We will not be returning to habaneros due to the blatant deceptive practices of one of your staff members. read more

Habaneros are their thing (makes sense) and they have a flair about it, check out their evocative pictures of thoughtful and brooding anthropomorphic habanero peppers, that somehow just make sense. That plane out front? Meant to be there and I'm still not sure what it means. But let me tell you they give you a ton of thin and crispy tortilla chips with that mildly spicy salsa and the Habey dip is cheesy and goooood. I've tried a few dishes veggie/fish style and they are tasty, chicken is also really good. Waiters are super quick, attentive and helpful, everything is always topped up and ready to go. My server, Natalie, made up for whatever disappointment I might have dealt with her incredibly pleasant disposition. Habaneros always does a good job, and tonight with no exception. I went with the number one platter which has enough food to either feed a small village, or me for two meals. My Food was delivered hot and it was freshly made. What a rip off! Brought my elderly mom here and paid $3.25 for a soda and asked for a to go cup for her to take back to the nursing home and they said they would charge me a $1. If I could give it 3.5stars then I would. Hospitality was great with friendly and happy staff. When you walk in it's the typical Tex-max restaurant atmosphere. I would additionally Habernos as a family restaurant, not romantic or somewhere to take anyone to impress like your boss or out of town guest. The food wasn't anything to write home about. The food chips and salsa that they give while you wait for your meal was okay; salsa I wish was more chunky with better flavor and I wish the chips were less tempid were they gave us a refill bowl. I know I will come here again since it is a meeting spot for my dad and I between KC and Warrensburg. Sadly, my meal was ruined by a single employee. I order soup and fajitas and as anyone knows, a customer wants the soup (clearly an appetizer) served first and their entree second. Apparently their waitress didn't know or care about that even though this is all she does every day all day.I don't understand how bringing all of the food out at the same time was a good idea. Wrong. The soup came out and the faquitas at the same time. Don't we all love the sizzling plate of faquitas coming out? It's awesome. But because their inattentive and inconsiderate waitress brought them both out at the same time.... The soup was consumed but by the time it was, the sizzling faquitas were not doing so and were cold and sitting in a lukewarm cast iron plate of grease or oil or something else. It ruined the meal. What planet is this place from where they can't realize that appetizers and soups are supposed to be served prior to entrees??? That's food service 101... and when I complained the employee started arguing with me! Claiming that other customers actually prefer to have both items served at once (and illogically wanting their entree to be cold) Don't bother going here if you want their employees to actually think about your experience and be considerate of your wishes. If they can't think through how good service should go from the customer point of view then I suggest you go elsewhere for a better more considerate experience. This was a super fun place and had some pretty good food. We enjoyed our server and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. The food took a little longer to arrive than we hoped for and the prices were a lot higher than we normally pay for Mexican - but it was a great place to eat. We were a party of 9 and selected Habanero's because we were able to make an online reservation through Open Table. We received email and text notifications that our reservation was confirmed. Habanero's did not honor our Open Table reservation. After speaking with the hostess and manager - they both explained that they don't use Open Table. After the lobby was emptied our party was sat 30 minutes past our confirmation time even though there were tables available. Our server did a great job taking food and drink orders. Non-bar drinks were delivered right away but anyone that ordered from the bar waited 15-20 minutes for their drinks. Most of the folks in our group liked the food. If I was the manager I would have honored the reservation and I would not have shared with the customer that they have issues with Open Table - I would have taken care of that behind the scenes. read more
