Great place, used to come here years ago. Thursday night after 8, not busy, seated immediately on patio on a gorgeous spring evening. Excellent service. Chili rellenos smothered with way too much cheese & batter. Should have ordered the enchiladas. Told waitress that I didn't want a comp but they did anyway & thanked me for the feedback. First time here. I drive by this restaurant all the time and thought it was such a cute restaurant, kind of hidden away. It's a hidden gem. They have been operation for 70 years. I thought from the outside that it was an Italian restaurant but in actuality it is a Mexican restaurant. Decided to come here for dinner in a Wednesday night. We sat outside in a patio. I was craving Mexican and left craving Mexican. The service was fine but the food was just not great. I'm not sure how you mess up salsa but it had no flavor and was super watery. The margaritas were so sweet I'm not sure they even had alcohol in them. The tacos were soggy by the time they were put in front of me. The enchiladas weren't too bad and I did like that they put some queso on top but could have used more queso for sure because they were so dry. Starting off, the atmosphere of this place is cute, a little tight inside, but cute. They also have a really nice patio. The service was severely lacking. We were a two-top and I noticed the four-tops getting regular attention. Now to the food. The chips are nice and crispy but the salsa was lacking. It tasted slightly sweet with little or no heat. I would have asked for hot salsa but figured it wouldn't arrive until I no longer wanted it. The enchilada....old school ground beef and cheese and sauce. The filling was fine if very slightly lacking meat & what I had expected. The sauce, however, was terrible. Again, there was something sweet in it. The wife had some gordita thing that she didn't really enjoy either. The fideo was flavorful but I can't say the same for the refried beans... very bland. This stuff was created in the 1960's or 1970's to introduce Americans to Mexican food. It may have worked then but doesn't now. I wanted to like this place as my daughters boyfriend is a server for the summer however... I have been told the margaritas are really awesome but I did not order any on a weeknight. As it is taco Tuesday I was leaning towards the pan fried tacos but they only offer in beef...no chicken...bummer. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and we also had enchiladas. Sadly this meal had less authenticity then Salty Iguana. If you like Salty Iguana this place is Salty's less attractive kin. As for the ambiance there is nice outdoor seating though the restaurant is small. The salsa is watery but has some kick even for mild. The chips are not made on site and it tastes like it. Black beans and rice are acceptable but the food was like getting a delivery straight from Sysco. The portions are large so you will not leave hungry but you can say the same about Old Country Buffet. My service was outstanding but the meal is both forgettable and regrettable. read more

Torreon is a cool little spot that is always filled with regulars. The staff makes everyone feel like family and that gives this place a special charm. Both times that I have gone I had to get the Gordita's because they are delicious corn biscuits filled with your meat of choice (I like the chicken best). Met some friends here for a Saturday night dinner. We ordered our margaritas, chat and waited for a table for about 20 minutes. The margaritas have a subtle kick and two on an empty stomach may due you in. We ate our share of chips and salsa but added an order of espinaca. The cheese dip was velvety and cheesy. Also like that their salsa is more medium vs mild. I ordered al la carte El Toro and a Chalupa but it comes with one side, which is nice. They were out of fideo so i opted for the rice. This is probably the worst Mexican I've ever had. I was taken aback by just how bad everything tasted. Starting with the chips and salsa, the salsa was almost straight up disgusting. It tasted on par with chunky ketchup without the sugar. There was a massive piece of tomato in it too, so big it could almost be an entire roma. I got the strawberry margarita. The first red flag was just how bright red it was. It was basically just a cup filled with strawberry syrup. My friend got the lime margarita that was somehow even worse. Hers also didn't even have a lime on the rim of her lime margarita. The enchiladas were fine. One of my friends with me also got enchiladas and hers was completely smothered in cheese. As you can see in my picture mine just had a tiny bit of cheese. The tacos were soggy and so basic. The beef was not well seasoned in either the tacos or enchiladas. The lighting was very dim and it was kind of hard to see. The staff were nice and the food came out fast. The food was lacking and tasted either frozen or straight from a can. I'd heard great things about this place. It was pretty busy so we had to wait a bit to be seated. We ordered a margarita to wait. My guy and I LOVE a good margarita, and to be honest we are picky. This margarita was not up to par. They called it a fishbowl, but it was really just the regular size margarita. Their mix is sweet, and oddly colored, and definitely doesn't taste like fresh made. Not enough tequila.... definitely no grand marnier. We are NOT Tex Mex fans... and prefer the complex flavors of true mexican food. The regular salsa was flavorless, with a bit of heat in the background, the hot salsa was hotter, but still flavorless. The beef tacos and tostada were bland. The service was very good... and everyone was friendly. Obviously because they were busy there are a lot of people who enjoy this place. Maybe it was an off night.... but I don't believe we'll be returning to try it again. read more

This place is...nuts. I say that because their florescent margaritas are deadly. Just be careful. We had a few party members down for the count after about two of them. Hole in the wall place that you would miss if you weren't looking. I went here for a friends birthday and had to wait 15 mins for a table. That's not too bad. I feel like the place seats 30-35 people max. The margaritas are good but strong. You've been warned! The guac and spinach cheese dip were tasty. I got tacos and a side of fideo. It's a delicious Tex-Mex place with great and friendly service. I brought in a birthday cake and they were kind enough to keep it in the fridge until we were ready. Was my 1st time here, I heard they had amazing food, sadly thou the customer service was horrible. The front desk girl was very rude, I placed a to-go order and asked to set outside she said no when there was 4 extra tables outside as it was a nice night. The order was going take 15mins so I asked for chip and salsa while I waited she said no again, that she did not know how to charge me, i had no problem paying extra, was very odd, maybe she was having a bad day but still not ok. My boyfriend and I moved into a home just down the street from Torreon last fall and their cute little patio area immediately caught both of our eyes as we were exploring the area. We visited on a very cold November night and when we arrived the place was PACKED. We each got a margarita to sip on during our wait for a table to open up and that definitely helped pass the time. Their margaritas are neon green and delicious. Strong, but not TOO strong. The only thing that would've made them better would be if they served them in a deeper margarita glass, as we had to be very careful not to accidentally spill them while waiting in the crowded entryway. We were seated at a small table squeezed right in between two other couples, and while it was a bit cramped, we ended up getting to observe some colorful conversations on both sides of us. We both enjoyed the chips and salsa and all of the food was just as good as those margaritas. We're looking forward to returning sometime this summer to enjoy a meal out on their inviting patio area! read more

Back again to update my review for the third time. Once again, this place is tiny + quaint. So, make sure you don't come with a super large party. I would say the only reason we continue to come is the incredible margaritas. They are so good and so strong. So, make sure you have a DD or a Uber for back up if you decide to have more than one! On the other hand, the food just isn't great. Its not your typical Mexican. I always have to warn my friends that come here, that the quesadillas are not your normal quesadillas. They are on a small tortilla, with meat, beans, salsa, and cheese inside of them. I saw someone else put in their review that the food is a step above cafeteria food and I don't think I could explain it better myself. I would also add, their menu is so beyond expensive for what you get. They also charge you extra for anything and everything they can. From now on, we have decided that its best to come on a day we can sit on the patio (the patio vibe is way better than indoors) and enjoy some margaritas but skip on the food. p.s. They are not honoring the happy hour price of margaritas anymore due to covid. Each margarita is $8.80. If that's not bad enough, the tables in the main dining room are so smashed together that you can barely move. The chips and salsa were ok, but I've had better. The margaritas, while strong, have a very nice balance between sweet and sour. Last place I would expect to find good Mexican food. I came here with a couple of co-workers after work for dinner. Being from LA/OC/SD, I was a little skeptical about how good this place would be. I came here with an open mind and low expectations and this place blew me out of the water. We had their famous margaritas; I'm not sure why it was neon green, but it was actually pretty tasty (and strong). We tried their half-stack enchiladas (it's not on the menu... just a smaller portion), and it was pretty legit. Great sauce, soft tortillas, tender and pieces of chicken; everything came together quite well. My only complaint is this restaurant is too crowded. It's difficult to maneuver between the tables when you have curves like me (fat ass). Oh well, the people that come here are pretty friendly and don't mind if you knock over their stuff with your butt. Overall, A+ experience! A little about my credentials: I first got into cooking & food when I was in college. After being rejected by numerous girls and getting zero action, I decided it was time for a change. Love this place! The food is delicious, the margaritas are equally delicious, and the service is great! I like their menu selection and order off the à la carte menu so I can get a bit of everything! I usually start out with a half order of guacamole and espinaca dip which are both amazing! It is not a big restaurant so it gets crowded easily, but they have a nice waiting area where you can sip on margs while you wait for your table, so it's not that bad if there's a wait. I kind of like that it is small because it gives it a cozy feel! I wouldn't come here on a weekend night if you're with a group, but it's a great date night spot! read more

We phoned our order in and were told it would be ready at a specific time. As far as I can tell they didn't even start making our food until I arrived to pick it up. The young lady who took my payment never thanked me and never apologized for my wait. The very first bite of my food contained something that appears to be a rock. I expected more. The Tuesday special didn't amount to much, three small tacos for $7. The waitress was not very attentive. We were shocked to see that each 10 oz margarita was considered a "fish bowl", and cost $7. I might be able to appreciate a 4-star review as neighborhood pride. But the rating on yelp is quite inflated. Those margaritas aren't worth $6 even on $1 off Mondays. The food is not spectacular. The patio overlooks the back of a gas station. Service and food make a restaurant. So far today service is lacking so bad I am not sure super awesome food will make up for this disaster. This has been one of the worst restaurant experiences we have experienced to date. Seated on patio at 515pm, at 530pm we were asking if we had a server and could get some water. We already had two baskets of chips delivered from the chip guy, he was on it but the server was slacking. I asked the host if she could send our server over, she said yes but she has a big table too. I DON'T CARE about a table of ten, it's just us and them. She comes over and drops waters off and takes her sweet time coming back for a drink order, we ordered the fish bowl margs which came in plastic solo style cups (hmm). Cutting to the chase. We order two nachos and two tamales, server doesn't ask about sides at all and when we realize this we ask her about them. She said specifically that tamales do not come with sides, but if we wanted them it would be extra. My brother in law asked if she could bring the menu back for a minute, she then changed her tune to "if you want sides I can get them at no charge". We said just bring the menu, the menu cleared the dilemma as it clearly said they include two sides. He ordered beans and rice, she walks away with out asking me what I wanted. At this point she was snotty as they get, so it was by by tip time. They sides comes out beans and rice for both of us, which was fine as I probably would have ordered the same anyhow. On the way out we stopped at the host stand and asked for the chip guy/kid and tipped him $10, we said do not share it because she didn't earn it with that attitude. A women behind the bar asked if everything was ok, I asked if she was the manager and she was not but pointed to the guy at the end of the bar as the manager. I simply said he should visit the tables and not sit at the bar, we never saw him on the patio at all. I explained that this was one of the worst dining experiences since we moved to the KC area. Managers need to be making rounds, it;s that simple. Get off your ass and visit the tables. The food was decent, we may go back but be damned if she was our server ever again. Rant. over. read more

This is one of those blink and you miss it kind of places. Doesn't help that it's nestled right behind the Phillips 66 station at 87th and Santa Fe in Overland Park, KS. Inside the restaurant is small. Ok it's actually tiny. The patio area is pretty awesome though and a great place to sit in the warm summer air and drink antifreeze margaritas. Yes I just said antifreeze margaritas. Once you go there and see the color of the margaritas you will understand exactly what I am talking about. This is honestly one of my favorite margarita and taco joints in the metro. Especially if it's warm and I can chill out on the patio.
