This place is terrible! MY BOYFRIEND AND I BOTH GOT FOOD POISONING! I could tell when I tasted the salsa that the tomatoes had gone bad. I literally ate three chips and decided I better stop. My boyfriend could taste the same thing but added the queso to his and kept eating it, not really believing it was bad... well... he spent the night in the bathroom... The service was awful! Took FOREVER for everything. We literally went there for quick service and it took us 20 minutes just to get helped.. The little 14 year old girl handing out chips and salsa was rude as hell. Excellant service and food margaritas are a little pricey. Waiters and watresses are polite and friendly, food comes out fast and hot.

Muy rico¡ Margaritas were delicious and the cheapest anywhere in Blue Springs for a Wednesday. Excellent street tacos, soupy beans, fresh Guacamole, and quesadilla con pollo. We have been El Ranchero customers for YEARS!! Andrea and her sister provide excellent service and their food quality and price have been consistent- withstanding the pandemic and inflation which has pushed others to either lower quality/quantity or raise prices. Highly recommend their combo plates and fajitas. We've tried most everything and it's fantastic. My husband and our friends are big fans of the black margaritas and almost always take some to go now that it's an option. If you like the heat, try the habanero salsa - on request. I mix it into the reg salsa and indulge on chips, salsa, and guacamole. Cheese sauce is pretty delish, don't be deceived by the light cheese. It has good flavor. The El Ranchero fajitas are my absolute favorite and it's the chorizo that makes it the very best with chicken, shrimp, and steak. This is a great spot in a nice location with some great folks from our community. Their kids go to school here and they are running a great restaurant. read more

I visited this establishment again after receiving a coupon in my mailbox, and I'm glad I did because the food was delicious. For a sit down restaurant the prices are very reasonable, especially for the amount of food that you receive. I believe I ordered the #7 on the menu and was very happy with my choice! Also, I had to try their horchata too and it was very well made, which is hard to find around here. Hubs had a taste for Mexican food so I jumped on Yelp and this place had the highest stars in the area for Mexican food. After going, I'm not sure why. We walked in, everything was fine. As soon as we got to our table (and had barely sat down), we were asked for our drink orders. We hadn't even opened the menus. Luckily, I get the same drink everywhere we go these days. Hubs had to look for what he wanted. Put the orders in and no joke, like 30 seconds later, our waiter came back and asked for our orders. We decided to put in an appetizer to give us time. When we got our drinks (again, 30-40 seconds later), we were asked again for our order. We told him we weren't ready. Our appetizer came out shortly after that and can you guessed what happened? Bingo! We were asked for our order again. This time, we were ready. Gave our order. My order came out first. Like almost 5 minutes before his. He got his and we started eating. Well, we actually got the wrong order (hubs order). The couple sitting next to us ordered a similar burrito and we got theirs and they got ours. We didn't realize until my husband and the other guy had taken a bite. Once it was known, the couple told the waiter. The waiter (wait for it) asked hubs how much of it he had eaten like he was going to do a swap! Who does that?! Both had already been cut into and some eaten! He was just going to swap them? I ordered fajitas and my steak was very, very chewy to point it was like one big piece of stringy meat that couldn't even be cut properly. The "air conditioning" had the fan up very high to the point that napkins were flying around. There also was a lot of flies which explains why the fan was up so high. Needless to say this was the first and the last time we will be dining here. read more

Service was very slow when I came for a small birthday gathering for a friend of mine. The margaritas were on special, nothing special. It wasn't my favorite but for the price, it was fine. The food is simple, nothing to blow you away... but the kicker was really the service. When we finally got our food, the guy fought with someone at the table about what she ordered and she finally just took it. Truthfully, I don't think he was listening enough when he wrote it down because it was not the same. All in all, I wouldn't choose to go back but it was close to the friend that was having her birthday. I'm sure there are better places that are more friendly. Price was cheap though! read more

So we were here pre Covid but guess I didn't review it. We liked it. Owned by same people who used to have the one in Lee's Summit and we really liked it. Sad to see it replaced with a different Mexican place. The atmosphere in Blue Springs is a bit more contemporary and there's lots more open space. Good adult place but also fine for families. We would've been back sooner except for Covid. We were really happy to see they are open for dining again... Though we haven't been in to eat at very many places since the restrictions loosened. The music and eating inside put me in a party mood without alcohol. We did a very late lunch...3 pm so not much of a crowd. I started us with a chorizo cheese dip. Ooh my my!!! This is like the best chorizo I've had in years. Cooked perfectly and nice with the perfect consistently of white cheese sauce. Is seriously think of ordering this as my meal at lunch and eating it all myself. My wife had a chicken chimi meal and really liked it. I had a rib eye steak platter and it was wonderful. The tortillas were really hot and better than most places for flour. We were having such a good time and since I hadn't eaten breakfast.... Went all out and got sopapillas for dessert. Have to tell you these were the best I've had in the KC area. Lightly sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and just a bit of honey on them as well. Good thing there were just 4 for the two of us. The prices are very reasonable and competitive. The service was above average. Refills perfectly timed. Glad we have to drive a bit to get here or we'd be here too often. This is a meal that was so epic I'll remember it for a really long time... Mainly because of that chorizo!! read more

We used to like this place but now the service is so bad it just isn't worth it. We spent 3 hours there, had to keep going up to the bar to get water refills. We had hair in our salsa. We were charged for an item we didn't order but when they corrected it, we were still charged a quarter for it and the server seemed put out to be able to fix it so we just paid the stupid quarter. This place has gone down hill since it opened, and it seems to be plagued by bad service. The food isn't bad but it's not great enough to overlook that horrible of service. read more

Because of COVID, we've only done takeout but our orders have always been ready on-time, accurate and hot. This place is across the street from me and I really wish it was better. I've been twice now and both times spent way more than I would want for food that isn't worth it. I've had the steak burrito and combination fajitas and both were just fine. Currently sitting at the restaurant the waiter is as rude as can be. He has gotten multiple orders wrong. Has tried to forcefully make us take food we didn't even order. While visiting my hometown, my parents and I needed a place to grab dinner a little late in the dinner hours. We ended up at El Ranchero, and I was expecting a meal similar to what I'd had at its former location down the street. Sadly, the experience was so noteworthingly bad that I'm writing a review for a place 2k miles away. Service: I'm absolutely not one to grump about servers--I know things get busy and miscommunication happens. But, despite it being completely empty aside from one other table, we had to ask three times for my dad to receive the tortillas that came with his fajita meal. Two servers said "More tortillas?" after we asked for our original, non-existent ones, promised to bring some, then disappeared into the back only to resurface to chat with other servers at the bar. We eventually had to go up to the bar, then to the pool of servers standing and chatting to get the tortillas, and by this point, the other members of our party were half-done eating. Food: Again, I really enjoyed the food at the other location, but my chicken tacos came with absolutely NO flavor to the shredded chicken and the salsa desperately needed flavor. I've never before had to add salt and table condiments to my restaurant salsa to make it taste like anything. All-in-all, it was frustrating and made me miss the old location. Blue Springs really needs to support its restaurants, so I have hopes that this location will get better! read more

If I am going to spend $27.00 on dinner and pick it up myself I don't expect to pay a $1.00 to go charge. Yes, the food was good but not so great that I will buy a to go order from them again. Bad Service. BAAAAD. Hilariously So. We patronized ER for the first time in the evening on May 22nd 2019. It took our waiter several minutes to reach our table. After we received our food, he checked back with us within a minute or so. Then he just.....disappeared. Never to be seen or heard from again. For over 20 minutes, we sat with 2 empty drinks. My husband finally rattled his empty glass continuously until a waitress arrived to check on all the racket. She explained that our former waiter had been busy with a large table of people that had arrived after we were seated. She matter of factly intimated that he was permanently MIA. He had moved on, and that we shouldn't expect any further attention from him. She did, however, refill our drinks and eventually bring our check. We were so incredulous, we couldn't help but to be slightly amused at that point, because the service was THAT awful. Record-setting. In all fairness, the restaurant was moderately busy. Still, no excuse-amente for the treatment we received, IOHO. And the icing on the cake was the manager/cashier. Usually they perfunctorily ask "How was everything?" Not this Ranchero. Fresh off of exchanging terse words with a female coworker, he silently (and somewhat aggressively) processed the transaction and sent us on our way. (Balding gentleman, late 30's.) The food is awesome and we give them high marks for cleaniless, but apparently they don't give one serious flip about their customers. read more

Waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and made a recommendation based on popular demands not based on a price. This is one of those places that you know what you're going to get. There are a thousand of these same menu places all across the country. It was adequate. We were a large group of 14. Our waiter diappeared frequently and we had to seek out a busboy to assist. Food was ok and we got it fairly quickly for a group. It's not authentic or even tex-mex, really. We also visited on Cinco de Mayo and it wasn't crowded so seems like their mediocrity has spread. So we went in to have lunch at 1215 on a Saturday afternoon. There was 7 of us which included a 4 yr old and 2 yr old. The y didn't have too many customers yet. We have eaten there before and the food is never an issue. We ordered our food and everything was fine until the food runner came out. She yelled in my ear, literally threw my moms plate in front of her and when she put down my granddaughter's quesadilla she yelled at her to "move back!" ( she's 4 and was playing with a toy at the table.). Before my daughter had the chance to move her out of the way the woman shoved the plate in between them and apparently the plate hit my granddaughter on the head with the plate. My daughter was stunned. I didn't find this out until after the lady walked away yelling because she had a third plate of something that none of us ordered. She had an attitude with us from the beginning. Out of the 5 adults, two of the orders were right & when they finally brought out the 2 year olds quesadilla with fries, the fries were BURNT and super hot. We just chalked this visit up as a loss. Our waiter was super nice and attentive, either the food runner grabbed the wrong stuff or he got the order wrong. She was horrible....her attitude was off the charts. Luckily we only encountered her for about 1 minute and we didn't see her again. We never have had a bad meal here until today. We will be back but they definitely need to teach some kind of customer service to their servers and food runners. read more

I'm pretty picky with Mexican food, but El Ranchero is my #1 favorite Mexican restaurant. If I want Mexican, this is my go to place. My family and I have been coming to El Ranchero for years. We were customers when they had their first building and never did we once have a problem with the food, service, workers, etc. They're food has ALWAYS been spot on and we never wait too long for our food. Visited for lunch. There was nobody in the restaurant when we entered but shortly after about 4 more tables arrived. I had the chicken taco salad and my husband had the nachos supreme. Both were decent portions for the price and the taste was delicious. The restaurant appearance was fantastic. Clean, clean, clean. Service was top notch and food came out quick and hot. My rating is not based on the food because I only had a regular sized strawberry margarita while there. It costed me $10 and I'm not sure there was really even tequila in it lol but that's besides the point. The service was the worst. We had 2 kids sitting at our table and we had to ask for water for them about 4 times before we ever got it. The server never checked in on us while we ate. At the end, dividing our (5 + 2 kids) tickets was a nightmare (4 tickets, I get it, that is a lot of tickets but also.... You're a server, figure it out. Make notes. Whatever). Two of the tickets were messed up 3x before being corrected. My ticket was fine- one margarita...What's not fine is that I signed for one amount and it came through to my bank for that +$5!! We have loved El Ranchero since they first opened at their original location just down the road in Blue Springs. We love love love their chips, salsa, and cheese dip! We've ordered just chips and salsa carryout for parties before. The rice is also a must order. We love to get tacos on Taco Tuesdays, and some of their specials and combination dinners. They also have great lunch specials, including the fajitas. We never have room for dessert, but the dessert menu also looks good. read more

El ranchero review Cleanliness: 4 - the entrance barely dirty. The bathroom floor was dirty but, the also had air freshener in their. Our booth was kind of dirty. Still meet expectations. Food: 5 - there cheese sauce is made fresh and not blowtorch melted. There salsa is also fresh. Everything was phenomenal. Service: 6 - they made sure everyone's experience was a good one. They moved tables for pregnant women. Employees helped other employees. If I could tip them $40 I would best Mexican food I've had in a while. read more

We love this place - the waiters are friendly, the food comes out fast, and it tastes so good! The enchiladas are very tasty, with corn tortillas. The shrimp tacos have poco de gallo on them, and they taste so fresh. My husband loves their chili verde, as well as their El Ranchero burrito. Oh and their tilapia dish is excellent! It's grilled, and comes with shrimp and steamed vegetables, along with Spanish rice. They bring out chips and salsa to start with, and refill when needed. Their salsa is great - not too spicy. But, if you do want spicy, ask for their hot salsa. Mix a little in with your regular salsa and mmmm it's good! Their prices are very reasonable. We tried it once, and now we're hooked! read more
