Happened to be visiting Lenexa on a completely separate mission when we decided why not grab a few Margs and Mexican food. Not knowing the area that well we were happy to see that an old KC favorite, Margarita's had a nearby location. We could not have been happier with our little impromptu decision! Everything from the super house Margs to the thin and crispy "half taco" chips was just like our old favorite on Southwest Blvd in the Rosedale area of KC. Two years ago I wrote a Yelp review for that location claiming they had the best Carnitas I have ever enjoyed. This location is just as good. Truly exceptional and generously portioned. I ordered the combo fajita meal chicken & steak $20. Now they add the rice to the skillet, so you get 1/2 rice 1/2 fajita ...cleaver! I stopped going to jalapeños restaurant because they add rice to the shredded beef chimichanga . This is not a good business move! read more

We had a group of 10, most of which was children and Camrynn was on top of it all! Drinks never went empty, all orders were correct, kids food came out first, all the food was great, and the table was cleared as plates were finished! Margaritas in Lenexa is right around the corner from me, and I couldn't be happier about that. I've been multiple times and have always left satisfied with both the food and the service. This recent visit was with my partner and our child. Despite it being pretty busy, we were seated promptly by a welcoming host, and the house-made crispy, perfectly salted chips arrived quickly alongside a well-balanced salsa that got our appetite rolling right away. Our server was fantastic -- quick to greet us, brought water for everyone, and even thoughtfully brought a cup with a lid for our little one without us asking. She immediately recommended the margarita dip for the chips, and I wasn't disappointed. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, she really made the experience smooth and enjoyable. We ordered a quesadilla for our child to come out first, and even with the busyness, it arrived so fast we weren't even ready to order our entrees yet. The atmosphere is lively -- a bit loud and the tables are quite close together, which made things a little overstimulating for our child -- but honestly, the excellent service, delicious food, and perfectly chilled, well-balanced margaritas keep us coming back. We decided to do a Mexican theme for Christmas, so we ordered a pan of ground beef and a pan of shredded chicken to feed up to 30 people. I opened the pan and it's half full. I am so pissed and want to cry. This won't feed everyone. I guess my husband and I won't eat. I have to limit my guests on the food portions now. I'm so upset. We stopped in for lunch today and we really enjoyed the main portion of our meals. The server was friendly and attentive. The noise level was good with a casual atmosphere. The chips were okay and the salsa was pretty good, a tad spicy. My fried beef tacos were excellent! The Spanish rice was a bit greasy and the refried beans over dry. My husband said his enchiladas and fried taco was very good but felt the same about the rice and beans. The main restaurant was clean as well. read more

Definitely a white persons Mexican restaurant. Salsa reminded me of marinara sauce with consistency and flavor. Ordered 3 Ala carte authentic tacos and was greeted by 3 glistening with oil corn tortillas topped with meat that reminded me of meals I'd had on a ship when I was deployed. We stopped in here on a busy, rainy Saturday night and the staff killed it. They were relatively busy with only 3 servers. It was our waitress first night and she did awesome. The margaritas are awesome. I always get one when I go. The chips and salsa are also great. The chips are big and go great with margarita dip. I almost always get taco here. They're sorta double fried so they have a unique texture. I usually opt for beef, either ground or shredded. One of our dining companions got the chicken fajitas. Let me start this by saying a few things. I have grown up eating Margarita's Norfh and Downtown locations. The Lenexa Margarita's is closer to us, so we've stopped in on a few different occasions. We stopped in last week on September -7, 2025. We walked in, and the host was immediately off put about the REGISTERED service dog, and wanted to put us outside. I told her no, we wanted a table, as there were many free tables due to not being the dinner rush. The host disappeared, someone else came out to seat us. She seated us in the first girl's section, which probably should have been a good reason to leave. She rudely took our drink order, tried rushing our order for dinner. We were seated before 6, so I inquired about Happy Hour apps, and she said our happy hour special is $2 off fajitas. That's the daily deal, not the Happy Hour deals. I let it go. She kept coming to our table to get our order, and was annoyed we weren't ready yet, and was just very pushy. While waiting for our order to be cooked, the staff looked like they don't really care about their job, it's annoying to help people, and I promise the service dog was cleaner than any table or our waitress. It was also very obvious no one knew who was in charge, everyone was doing whatever they wanted. I messaged another location, and they gave me the manager information for this Margaritas. I sent her a message on September 18, 2025, It has not been read nor replied to. I'm usually not one to be rude about an experience, but these employees had no respect for my veteran boyfriend, nor his mobility service dog. Not saying we all need to stand and salute my boyfriend, but the unwelcome vibe we had the entire visit, if I can't make it to my favorite Margarita's location, and leave this wanna be branch alone. I know times are hard, getting and keeping people is hard, but I'd rather change hours than hire people who don't want to give good service that people pay good money for. Bland bland bland. Pretty sure the queso was canned cheese with very little Rotel in it. The chimichanga was soggy and the beef inside had no seasoning. The rice was just bland boring flavorless rice. Got a Gold Cuervo Rita and it was terrible and not drinkable. Lots of tequila, which is usually good, but the sour mix they use was not right. I have spent 17 years living in Texas and Oklahoma and I've had the privilege of eating at some outstanding Mexican restaurants. Well, most of the Mexican restaurants in Oklahoma and Texas are really Tex-Mex (which I prefer over hard-core Mexican food), but I digress. My point is that I absolutely love Mexican food, but my experiences have made me a bit of a Mexican food snob. Because of this, there are very, very few Mexican restaurants in Kansas City that I enjoy visiting. Margarita's is one of these. If you aren't familiar with them, Margarita's has been a local chain since 1985 with a handful of restaurants scattered around the KC area. You can find a couple varieties of their salsa in most local grocery stores. Your meal begins with complimentary chips and salsa. I've generally been very impressed that my chip basket is almost always overflowing with whole chips, not stuffed with broken pieces and a fist full of crumbs lining the bottom. The salsa is tasty and very "tomato-ey", but also very mild. They offer medium and hot versions in the grocery store but I keep forgetting to ask if they serve these in the restaurant too - I'll try to remember on my next visit and update this review. Most of the menu is old-school Mexican, just the way I like it. Tacos and burritos, chile rellenos, enchiladas, and tamales, etc. They don't waste menu space on a bunch of fru-fru new-wave Mexican options that I have no interest in. The crispy taco shells are fresh fried, not pulled from a box, and then stuffed with meat. The enchiladas are served with your choice of fillings with cheese on top, but not too much cheese. (Real Tex-Mex rarely includes cheese - unless you're eating a cheese enchilada, chile relleno, or sometimes when building a fajita.) I enjoyed the chile relleno, it's possibly the best in the area. It's a little unusual - it's available with your choice of meat, but they don't stuff it inside the chile along with the cheese. They lay the relleno, stuffed with cheese and then deep fried, on top of a bed of your choice of meat. It's different from what I'm accustomed to, but it's also very good. The Margarita dip is a favorite. It's a white cheese queso with spinach - a standard with most Kansas City area Mexican restaurants that you won't find in other cities. (They also offer typical yellow cheese queso.) The Margarita dip usually has a touch more spinach in it than what I prefer, but I still enjoy it. The fajitas are a cross between the stir fry style that most local Mexican restaurants serve, and the (in my humble option) far superior and better tasting long strips of meat grilled separately that you'll find in the restaurants a few hundred miles South of us. Margarita's fajita meat is shaped in "squarish chunks" and better than most of the local competition. (Check out Chuy's if you'd like to know what a typical Tex-Mex fajita should look and taste like.) One more thing - if you're an old fart like me, you'll also appreciate the classic rock Muzak that plays in the background. I usually prefer Mexican music or a Mariachi band, etc. in a Mexican restaurant, but in my opinion, you can never go wrong with classic rock. I generally travel to Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico a couple times each year to visit family and to quench my Tex-Mex craving. Between visits, Margarita's suits me just fine. read more

Tried out Margaritas this past weekend. I ordered the #5 Baja Entree with cheese enchiladas and a Chile Colorado Taco. The beans and rice were very flavorful. The pork taco was delicious; it's not an item I would typically order, but I would definitely order it again. The enchiladas weren't my favorite, the cheese to tortilla ratio was a bit off and the sauce wasn't enough to cut through all the gooey cheese. My husband ordered the Margarita Special and thoroughly enjoyed it. We both thought the queso was one of the better ones we've had. Overall a really good experience. read more

I go here for sentimental value with my family. I went here all the time growing up, back when they were located in Shawnee. It's not my favorite Mexican place by far, but their salsa and cheese dip are amazing. They also have great strawberry margaritas, and they will even let two people split one and bring it in two glasses! I usually get a chicken fajita taco on a wheat tortilla, no cheese (I don't like their shredded cheese at all). Or just the order of chicken fajitas with guacamole and sour cream if I'm super hungry. Their rice is yummy as well. I also like their chicken taquitos. Service is always prompt and friendly. Only downside to this restaurant is it's always freezing, no matter the season. The servers have been told, and they say that management won't fix it. So bring a jacket! Their restaurant could also use some updating in terms of decor. Overall, it's a casual restaurant with great prices and pretty good Mexican. read more

Back when I was a hungry teenager, the football-sized burritos here were all I needed to think this is the best Mexican in KC. Times and my palate have definitely changed, and this place is fine, standard, cheese-covered, carbo-loading TexMex. It's pretty meh overall. We were at the Lenexa location and our server did an excellent job with a larger group. She got everything right and wasn't intrusive. The atmosphere looks like a small town Elks Lodge with generic, catering style seats and pretty blank slate all around. They do have a patio if you want to watch Quivira traffic whiz by. The Margarita Dip is a guilty pleasure -- basically a heavy white queso with a little jalapeno flavoring. That was pretty much my dinner, and I threw in a couple standard fried tacos for good measure. If I didn't write this review, I'd probably forget about this joint by the time the workweek rolls around. read more

A Young lady running meals out to cars stopped, took our order, took our payment and brought us our food pretty quickly considering we were a drive up and the lot was full. We sat in one of the open seating bar tables but had to eventually get our own menu and waited almost 10 minutes to be greeted. We were the only table in the bar so it wasn't busy. Stopped in at Margaritas for margaritas with a friend today. I noticed the sign on the door that stated they used Lifted Spirits in their cocktails and was immediately stoked! Had the jalapeño margarita and it was perfection! We ordered the Margarita dip to share. I had the Durango dinner plate with chicken tamales. It was all really good. Disappointed...again. I had a lousy experience here a few years ago before Covid hit. I went there yesterday, figured I'd try again. The food came out warm, not hot like most Mexican restaurants. It was bland. The service wasn't good either. We had two empty glasses of ice tea sitting on the table for at least several minutes. It was a Saturday night and we were too tired to drive across town to our usual Mexican restaurant so we decided to try Margaritas. First we sat down and had the standard salsa. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Next we ordered the margarita dip which was really good. Your standard white cheese Mexican style Dip. For entrees my guy ordered the puffy tacos which he liked. We shared the spinach enchilada, it was good for the price. I ordered the fajitas which is one of the more expensive items. I was very disappointed to see the veggies hadn't been cooked long enough. They were still pretty hard. The service was great and the food was delivered quickly. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be back. As foodies we really like to count on extra-delicious food when we go out to eat. read more

Margaritas dropped the ball tonight ! They have no clue what they are doing with curbside to go orders . Completely understaffed , untrained , and no management ! My order was placed at 3:30 to pick up at 4 pm . We waited until 4:45 and watched as the cars piled up and nobody had a clue what was going on . Managemt fail big time . Margaritas at Kansas City landmark for great Mexican food. Not so much anymore, ever since the original owner sold the company to a group I feel like the menu in the quality have suffered. We rarely go there anymore The food itself it's good if you know what to order but if you don't, good luck. We have been ordering from them for years! My daughter was working the other night when we ordered the family dinner so for one day home I placed a carry out order for her. We ordered a 1/2 order of dip and a burrito and when I went in to pick it up they did not give her chips. When I asked they said it had to be a $25 or more order....for chips? They gave her salsa but not chips.... If you come in a order a water they bring you salsa and chips. I am extremely disappointed in their customer service. read more

Went here Friday 10/1/21. We were looking forward to a nice patio dinner, but the sign on the door said the patio was closed due to short staffing. That was a gross understatement. I'm not sure there was a waitress in the house. After about 20 min. the hostess came around and brought us water and took our order. The margarita order got "lost" and had to be redone, and came after the food had been delivered. The food was excellent as always, but the lack of staff sure made it a different dining experience.
