This is the third time that my husband and I have tried Los Compas. Here is what you need to know. 1. The service and staff have always been super friendly and on top of making sure you have a great experience. 2. Margaritas and beer can be ordered in large amounts! Margaritas have been hit or miss. 2 times they were good. Once was too much sweet and sour. Beer has always been icy cold. 3. Food is on point and portions are large. The only thing that i have tried that I didn't like was the enchiladas. The sauce was too spaghetti-o'ish. Other than thay, food is fresh and seasoned perfectly. Been going there for several years. Service was terrible. Received 2 dirty sauce bowl and an extra plate. The food was not what it used to be to be. Cheese sauce was watered down. We told our server about the dirty dishes. Her response she would tell dishwasher. No apology. The booth behind ours got plate of food that had had hair in it. I love that they have daily specials. Today's special was a Taco Salad for $7.99. I chose chicken as my protein choice. Shell was crispy and delightful. Chicken was moist but I like mine with a little more seasoning. Lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream. Chips and salsa are served as no cost at the beginning of your meal. Soda-they have Diet Dr Pepper! Winning! There are other choices if soda but when they have this choice winning! Beautifully decorated inside and service is fast and helpful. I stopped by to grab a to-go order and had the combination meal #3 which consisted of Taco, Burritos and your choice of Chalupa or Tamale. I had beef on all 3 but the Chalupa appeared to be only beans. Meal came with chips and salsa. It was good, nothing really stood out, no seasoning that stood out. Overall fair price around $12 Inside looked clean and man taking my Oder was friendly and talkative. I will probably go back and try something different on menu. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. Never crowded and service is great. But the star is the food it's delicious. The chicken taco was to die for and so was the rice and guacamole salad. The relleno had too much breading on it. But the inside was delicious. There's only one problem with this restaurant and its consistency. Sometimes the salsa is great and sometimes too spicy. The same with the refried beans, so if you don't like spicy and the beans are tinted red, don't even try them. Today even the rice was spicy. It's got to be one particular cook. Spent $97.00 at this place, then get all the way home and see this. The portion size was for a toddler, the queso was just shredded cheese melted on chips! had 5 people still hungry. I called to complain just to have the rudest man hang up on me. This is the 2nd time I have had a bad experience there and it will never go back. Please do not support businesses that don't know how to treat their paying customers. Worst experience we have ever had from restaurant. Los Compas is very large, so it was great that we were seated immediately (with social distance from other tables). The salsa was fresh with a nice punch of jalapeño. I ordered the caldo de camaron (shrimp soup). It was okay, but could have been incredible if the shrimp had not been over cooked and the soup was salted. There was an overall lack of salt in all the dishes. Unfortunately, the beef and red sauce for my sons' burritos and as mentioned, my soup all needed a healthy sprinkling from the salt shaker on the table. This is a nice Mexican joint. There is a lot of space so it's great for larger groups. Today I ordered a combination fajita which included shrimp, chicken, and beef. The shrimp is great. The beef was tough and dry. The chicken was overcooked and dry. The majority of the fajita plate is meat and onion. There are a couple small peppers you can find if you dig. I prefer more grilled flavors in my fajitas. This is very plain. But on the upside, they pile the plate so full of meat there is easily enough for 2 people to get full on one plate. I enjoy coming here because it's close and they are really friendly. Even though it's not 5 star food quality I will continue coming simply because I enjoy the people who frequently dine here. read more

Our planned Mexican restaurant down the street was unexpectedly closed, so we decided to try this place. With four stars we were feeling hopeful. Unfortunately, the food was not very good at all. The menu consists of your every day Midwest Mexican choices, but the food was tasteless. At one point my daughter joked that maybe she had Covid because almost everything tasted like nothing. The beans were the most tasteless and the guacamole as well. The service was actually really good and very friendly and the chips and salsa were fairly decent although the salsa extremely mild for my preference. First very few places get the blue ribbon rating meaning no violations for a period of time so that is why we went. Clean , Friendly prefer salty iguana salsa better but very good chips were not hot but good service was perfect food was very good had vegetarian dinner , carnitas dinner , chicken taco salad chicken salad was the same price as iguana but alot smaller but very good., carnitas was in chunks which is how they liked it and prefer it so they can shred their-selves and did very easy. had a specific request but was forgotten however that was remedied extremely quick. so food was very good all considered 5 star would recommend and again not many get the blue ribbon so good job on that. read more

I met my partner and his mother here for lunch. They like the food here. The server was prompt and polite. The food came out nice and hot and promptly. After that, it was mediocre. I had a tamal and a chile relleno with beans and rice. Meh...average. The chile relleno was a bit tough. Did someone skin the poblano? It seemed like part of it was tender and skinned and part of it was not. There were parts I had to "saw" through. The flavor was good. I ended up giving the tamal to my mother-in-law. I'm not going to say the food was bad because it was not. But, it was nothing to write home about either. My other two companions seem to like the food a lot. read more

The chips taste like they were cooked in old oil. They were awful. I do not like the texture of the meat and it tastes weird. My friend had Chicken nachos the chicken was shredded and it was dry. I have eaten here 4 times in the last year and all 4 times were lackluster, I will not be returning. I did try to like it. The wait staff don't seem to know what to do, or when to do it, as you wait for a refill until you ask and getting your ticket at the end of the meal took a little longer than what would be expected. Love love love this place!!! The food is great. My favorite is the Pollo Michicano. They caramelize the chorizo and top it and the chicken with that wonderful white cheese dip. I also love their taco salads. I haven't found another Mexican restaurant that puts anywhere near as much meat on their salads. My husband and I had lunch at Los Compas this week while we were shopping in Independence, and we're delighted to have discovered a (for us) hidden gem! We dined around 1:30 p.m., so it wasn't very busy, but we were still able to take advantage of the lunch specials. I had the #2 (chili relleno, taco, refried beans and guacamole salad) and chose the chicken, soft tortilla version for my taco. The chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the lettuce, tomato and guacamole were all very fresh. The beans were quite tasty, as was the relleno, and the portions were ample without being too much. My husband had the #11 (burrito, taco, rice and beans) and chose the beef, crispy tortilla version for his taco. The flavors were all authentic and quite delicious. I also had a house margarita, which was perfectly made with salt on the rocks. Our server was Enrique, and he was friendly, efficient and attentive. The prices (especially with an alcoholic beverage) were very reasonable, and it was a pleasant and memorable meal. We'll definitely be back! read more

The food was pretty decent but what I liked the best was the nice touch...our order was so big they gave us a wooden crate to carry it all! Way to go on your customer service!
